I bought the First QY 10 when it originally came out and I believe it was 1990 and it was a game changer. I would sit in a coffee shop and produce music from that small little device and nobody could even comprehend what the heck that thing was doing it was really actually ahead of the curve.
I love that Yamaha sequencer...I bought a '95 Korg prophecy...the first of the series...and I admit I would give three times its value to have it. I had the su700 and the su 200 (later). Good times❤️❤️❤️
Best hardware DAW ever. This and QY100 + QY 300 / 700. Needs a revamped version ASAP (with updated sounds and sampling function like in Yamaha SU700 / EW425 / SX600) and it will make Yamaha billions!
@@igorecord in the 90s (where I bought it) they told me it sounds like from the 80s 🤣 it wasn't a compliment back then 🤣 they all wanted to sound "futuristic" a.k.a. techno style back then ... now the 90s itself is considered "retro" 🤣 - 30 years passed by like a whim... well... the 90s 🤣
Always wanted one of these so cool! Like a Gameboy for a musicians. Just couldn’t justify the spend back in the day, along with my full size recording gear.
The QY70 is from 1997. I know that for a fact, since I bought in then, when it came out in Germany for DM790 (~$700) which was like $1500 (or even $2000) in todays money. But the engine is the same as in QY10 / QY 20 which came out in 1990 / 1992

@@igorecordit's a welcome phrase from "bad gear" (this is a great fun retro music tech review youtube channel). check it out, you'll love it. The host is very knowledgable on old gear like QY70 and has a great sense of humor.
@@igorecord QY70 is still as fresh as ever. Its a godsend for synthwave / retrowave. While the GM / XG sounds / AWM engine itself are quite dull, you can twist them with the great onboard CC controlers (cutoff and resonance i.e.) and onboard fx. I recently bought me 2 mint spare QY70 and 3x Roland PMA-5 (check it out, while it's still available for as little money as $100, it's quite like the QY70, but from Roland)

This was sitting next to the QY700 and RM1x & SU700, near an EX5 in Allans music Melbourne city about 28 years ago. It was a sweet Yamaha section. I ended up with the SU700 and my mate the RM1x. I sold the SU700 15 yrs ago and rebought one last year. What a gem (apart from load times and freezing up occaisionally) This sounds really good. I had no idea the QY's were capable of this. the SU700 - a total powerhouse remix machine. I had it too. Bought it new back then when it came out back in 1999. Full fledged 64Mb RAM, all expansion boards. Check it out with the AEB digital I/O audio CD optical INput and SCSI harddisk board - it's marvellous!

Me too! I still have it, along with the 100 and 700. These old grooveboxes leave all the new ones in the dust.
Produce music? Is that what you call it? This requires zero talent.
Remarkably competent synthwave. I know Freezepop liked theirs but I'm surprised by how atmospheric it sounds all by itself
Thank you, I spent a long time digging into it, but now the result is good.✋😉🥳
I used to be obsessed with this band. I think for the first few years they ONLY used the QY.
i miss my QY70, the pads on there are SO lush

Great work here, and a good choice of sounds.

You could write all the music for 90s movies on this thing.🙂

No, 5 pin midi.
@@igorecord Okay no problem, still a cool device though. Portable sequencer
Does it sample?
No. It's tone generator.
"program everything on it without using controllers" isn't a feat, and muting and unmuting programmed sequences isn't a 'performance'.

Why not?
