Hi. Just as a clarification, WEDI and other Products like it are not waterproof on the surface. The closed cell foam structure is what gives the panel it's waterproofing. So when applying the sealant it is important to seal to the foam core and not just on the surface.
@@never2be07 the core is made of XPS or extruded polystyrene foam which is a closed cell foam and is waterproof. The facer is a cement based facer and is not waterproof.
Commies Suck I’m sorry, facer? Sorry I’m new at this and not quite sure what these terms mean. I guess what I meant to ask was how to seal it all the way to the core?

Why you don't put building papers behind the boards to save times and your water spout is too low, at least 6 " . If this job have permit, they won't pass inspection.
I have been in the caulking and waterproofing trade for over 40 years and when I saw the flange stopped short of the edge of the tub I just knew you were going to make the mistake that 90% of people make and leave a huge hole at the outside edge of the the tub, because they stop the waterproofing at the edge of the tub. But you didn’t you went back and fixed it. Well done. Every “professional” tub installer needs to watch this video.( I normally get called in after the fact to try to repair the botched installation and I can’t tell you how many times I have found the tile at the narrow strip at the front of the tub without waterproofing or sometimes just drywall at that strip) I also applaud your numerous references to technical manuals. Just a quick tip. I just finished installing Wedi backer board in a tub surround. Make sure to use either a chalk line as in the video or straight edge to mark your cut. I foolishly used the mesh lines thinking they were parallel to the board. They are not. The error didn't ruin anything and I was able to repair it but it pissed me off.

I will also run a glue bead down each stud because that’s just me. I will use my finger to level caulk at the tub because a putty knife might actually scratch the tub…. That would be me for sure LOL. Okay, so here I go. My inner tub wall has been fitted..l. Now the glue and caulk. Wish me luck everyone. My tile guy comes in two weeks so I hope my end product will suitable for him. Later
Great tutorial. I've watched many of your videos and thank you so much. Repairing a bathtub basically a 2 handle to a one handle, Used Hardy Backerboard DIY, The question is I did not remove the entire Backer Board I cut out 6 of the tiles and cut the Backerboard to the exact size I then replaced the cavity with a perfect cut Backerboard, used proper backer screws added additional 2X4 for it tom adhere to. Then i sealed it with the recommended sealant I need to water proof my valves and spot. How should I proceed?
Great tutorial. One thing i would recommend is to insulate your bathroom walls. It's more for sound and noise rather than climate control. Family member can be inside during their personal business without people from the other rooms hearing every grunt and push.
Thank you!!! I love the way you are so knowledgeable and detailed! I have never been able to find such a great teaching video as good as yours! Thank you!😊❤
I loved this video. It is so going to help me with my upcoming bath remodel. But I have a question. I had my tile guy float my other showers and of course that means a “cement” type product. How can I protect the valves from water leakage behind them? Could I use the same product around the valves, etc.? Or what do I need to do?
Getting ready to do my bathroom,I never done it,super nervous lol, my question why did you overlay the board over the side and back but not the front. Thank you
Would you be able to give me a brief run-down on Wedi board application in regards to a notched in tub window. I’ve scoured the web to no avail. I truly appreciate it, and this video of yours is super inspiring… thank you!
Over the years I built about 15 tile showers using Hardibacker over a vapor barrier. I used a preslope under a mudded shower pan. If I built more showers I would use a system like this. It took me longer to put up the vapor barrier than it takes this guy to put up all the wall boards. A lot of that is because he is faster than I ever was, but I could see time savings in every step of the way with this system. And the end product might be better. When you build a tile surround for a bathtub the vapor barrier should drain into the tub over the flange. Except water draining down that path leads to mold at the base of the tile so you caulk and there is no place for the vapor barrier to drain? I don't like either solution. What I like is keeping that water from going through the tile board and that is what a system like this accomplishes.
Great video. For the board placed around the valve fixture, why did you not place is down into tub flange similar to how you did the other two boards along the tub flange? This would avoid the use of tape.
We're excited to watch this video Live with you and answer any questions in the Chat!!

Are you scratching the tub? Is the film still on the tub? With your drill, hand tool. Good instructions for me and many
Great tutorial.

Thank you!😊❤
What an incredible teacher ....thank you so much
Great advice, been watching hing, and getting ready to do my own.. keep up the great work!
So what way do you think is best to install the backer board? In front of flange, on top, or notch out?
Excellent work and high-quality presentation. I learned what I need. Thanks.
Thanks for this. I need to redo my moms shower and mine an this video address a lot of questions an general lack of knowledge that I gave.
I loved this video. It is so going to help me with my upcoming bath remodel. But I have a question. I had my tile guy float my other showers and of course that means a “cement” type product. How can I protect the valves from water leakage behind them? Could I use the same product around the valves, etc.? Or what do I need to do?
Foamboard idea is simple but genius.
A little embarrassed I never thought of some of these great tips.
Thanks..
Getting ready to do my bathroom,I never done it,super nervous lol, my question why did you overlay the board over the side and back but not the front. Thank you
Nice tub waterproofing. I wonder how strong is form? It looks like it's easy to cave in the tiles if you accidentally fall against it?
Would you be able to give me a brief run-down on Wedi board application in regards to a notched in tub window. I’ve scoured the web to no avail. I truly appreciate it, and this video of yours is super inspiring… thank you!
That's an amazingly helpful video for our DIY reno. Thanks a lot!
Best video ive seen on waterproofing yet
fantastic vid, I will be using these products on my shower next month.
seems like a promotion for " wedi " =)...great video
Great video. For the board placed around the valve fixture, why did you not place is down into tub flange similar to how you did the other two boards along the tub flange? This would avoid the use of tape.
Because he was demonstrating the 3 different methods of backer board to tub flange!
