This show tackled so many deep topics from AIDS, being LGBT, tackling grief - that's barely scratching the surface.
It's still an amazing show.

People don't realize just how forward the show was bc they just thought of it as old ladies eating cheesecakes. This show has always been a beacon for LGBTQ+ to feel understood and safe. They also showed racial divides, political issues, health issues, antisemitic attitudes. The list is endless. They achieved something at a time when it was all still taboo. I'll always love the Girls. My cars are named after them and I have many awesome GG art.
I still love when she said, "Shady Pines, Ma !" Every time she would make a reference to Shady Pines, I would laugh.

The actress playing Dorothy, the legendary Beatrice Arthur is 5'10. She looks tall next to her co-stars because they were really short.
I was wondering if she may have had some heels on at times making her appear taller yet.

I am 46 and still indulge in reruns nightly. I remember when the pilot for GG launched. It is still one 9f the funniest sitcoms created. I will be watching it when l am 90... The Golden Palace was a spin off of GG. It was just as funny but only had 1 or 2 seasons in the early 90s. This show is a comedic gem!!!

I'm 25 and I LOVE the Golden Girls, maybe because my dads raised me on it due to how much they had loved it (it was a show that was openly accepting of gay people and had those hard conversations when others wouldn't) ❤❤ this show transcends age, race, religion and more ❤❤

I have been watching this show since I was 20 - I’m now 55 and I watch it every night to fall asleep. Not only is it funny as hell , and still holds up today but it’s soothing - recommend it for anyone. Top 5 comedies of all time
I discovered this show at 16 (I'm 27 now) and LOVED it. My friends teased me for it because "it's about old women -- how can an old show about old women be good?" I'm like, "They're hilarious! Who cares if they're older? I love it." For me, this is an evergreen type of show. No matter how much time passes, I always rewatch it when I'm in need of a laugh. Dorothy and Sophia were my favorites. Their comebacks and remarks are SAVAGE.

80s baby here, and this is just a TASTE of the comedy this show brings. And it's still airing today! Grew up watching this show and it's a favorite of mine all these years later. You really don't get gems like these anymore and it's so sad. R.I.P. to this wonderful cast
Dorothy and Sophia used to use Shady Pines against each other. Sophia used it as a guilt trip while Dorothy used it as a threat.

it was a sitcom but it has touched so many serious topics. The legendary line of Blanche, ´AIDS is not the bad persons disease, it is not god punishing for their sins´, is one of the best examples.
I was 14 when “The Golden Girls” began in September of 1985. It was on Saturday nights on NBC, and it was a HUGE hit show from the first episode. It was a totally unique show, nothing like it had ever been on tv before. Usually old ladies were old fashioned or just boring or grandmother types. These older women didn’t act (or talk) like the older women you’d see on tv: they had sex, they were raunchy, they insulted each other brutally, they weren’t sitting in rocking chairs and knitting.
When the show went off the air in 1992, the reruns were always on tv. The only problem was all the tv stations edited or censored the episodes, so you missed a lot it. Once all 7 seasons came out on DVD all the episodes were restored to the way they originally aired. I have the DVD box set and it’s great to just pop in a disc when you need a good laugh.
I was 20 when the show began. I had to stay home and watch the episode before I would go bar hopping with my friends! LOL!!
It wasn’t censored in Canada

I was born in 92. My grandmother loved this show. I went to her house everyday after school and watched them with her. I still watch it through at least twice a year. It's my feel good show when life is too much. I cant talk to my grandmother anymore so when I miss her I just turn on her favorite episodes and pretend shes laughing with me. Incredible show, better than most shows nowadays

IInexplicable to me, but when my son was a teenager, a big hockey-banging guy, he loved this show. He's in his 40s now and probably still loves itt to this day. Sofia was his favorite.

Use to be my little secret loving the Golden Girls when it was shown on Channel 4 on a Friday here in the UK. Looking back now I forgot how savage Dorothy was and also how funny the show was and still is. Those ladies are now back together in heaven RIP.

Bea Arthur (who plays "Dorothy") is ALSO like this in her series BEFORE "The Golden Girls" called "MAUDE" which was a spinoff from "ALL IN THE FAMILY." "MAUDE" is another hilarious sit com. She's married in this one and has a grown daughter.

Not only am I as tall as Dorothy, I have the same sarcastic personality as her too! She's definitely my favorite. And yes, I still watch The Golden Girls to this day (as well as Star Trek: TNG and DS9, and Stargate SG1 and Atlantis. My husband and I love all these shows and rewatch them while falling asleep).
