    Neil's first 10 or so albums are masterpieces.

    My favourite Neil Young moment is on the CSN&Y live album 4-Way Street when Young introduces his new song "Don't Let it Bring You Down". Young's deadpan delivery is spot on.
    "Here's a new song that's guaranteed to bring you right down."
    *audience laughter*
    "It's called "Don't Let it Bring You Down".
    *more audience laughter. Stephen Stills can be heard off mic cracking up*
    "It sort of starts out real slow and then it fizzles out altogether."
    *laughter and applause*

      Not a new song. That song was on After the Gold Rush that came out in Sept 1970 4 Way was released in April 1971.

      You're confusing album release dates with album recording dates.
      Don't Let it Bring You Down was recorded on March 17, 1970.
      4 Way Street was recorded in June and July of 1970.
      After the Gold Rush was not released until September of 1970.
      At the time Young joked onstage about Don't Let it Bring You Down in the summer of 1970, Don't Let it Bring You Down was still a new song that had not yet been released. No one in the crowd had heard it yet, therefore, it was a new song.
      Besides, I quoted Young verbatim.
      "Here's a new song that's guaranteed to bring you right down."

    I like Mr. Young - and I suppose you might consider it inappropriate for your forum - but I'd be interested in the years when he would show up for concerts too wasted to play - I drove a hundred miles to see him once in the early 80's - two hours late and half a song later the show was over. Not that I'm disparaging him for it - nobodies perfect - I'm just curious about what was going on, and how he kept getting venues when he kept showing up incapacitated?

    There actually is a good song on the new album, it's callled "Chevrolet". Just putting that out there for others like ne that haven't really been on the Neil train post Harvest Moon. He still has good ones here and there

    The extended interview with legends like Neil Young is the only way to present them. I mean Neil is so far beyond elite, he's one for the ages. Imagine getting to sit down and just have a conversation with Abraham Lincoln, or Charly Chaplin or Woody Guthrie. I was about to quit Sirius as a couple of channels I listen to have been downgrading their content. Then along comes Conan - and it seems to be going 24/7. I estimate I've heard about 2 hours of this interview over the last week - bits and pieces while fighting my way along the roadways of Los Angeles. So much in there but nothing rushed. 2 guys really hitting it off and hanging out. And there are segments where Neil takes the lead and offers insights into himself, his origins and early inspiration.

    I’m 76 and grew up liking Neil Young. I recently asked my son if he had heard any of his material and he said he had ; What did you think? I asked. “Music to slit your wrists by Dad “ , he replied. Different perspective I guess.

    The amount of reverence that Conan is showing for Neil Young is beyond anything I've seen from him. Quiet, reserved, introspective, but an occasional joke will escape to relieve the internal pressure.

      If you like rich guys who silence critics. And are hypocrites I'm pretty sure his stand wouldn't have gone over with 1969 Neil Young. Creative people trying to shut others down is the most disgusting thing you can imagine almost as bad as this Communist m***********'s voice.

  • @greenbeagle13
    @greenbeagle13 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I sorta', kinda' disagree. I went to a Neil Diamond concert a billion years and he sang all of the songs that got him to that concert and I have huge respect for that from an artist. On the other hand, I went to a Bob Dylan concert years ago, he busted out his screechy electric guitar..., I got up and walked out. I know, he doesn't care that I left, and the fact is, I don't care that he doesn't care. I guess I would walk out on a Neil Young concert if that is his attitude, although I do love Neil Young - grew up on his music, but just my take on it. 😏

    • @Potaters12
      @Potaters12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't know about that, I admire Bob so much that he could play really anything and I'd want to sit there and watch him do it. Sure I'd be disappointed he's not playing the songs that are meaningful to me, but not so much so I'd walk out.

      @nem0763 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I saw NY a decade plus ago, it was already established back then to check online for the setlists of previous dates on the tour. I saw each show had a few songs from _Ragged Glory_ and _Rust Never Sleeps_ and immediately hit the button. It was a *great* show. If it was all stuff I'd never heard...? I don't know. But I certainly don't want NY caring about my opinion either lol

    • @spam7797
      @spam7797 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well... Neil Diamond is Neil Diamond and Bob Dylan is over 80 and still releasing relevant music that. So you're kind of proving the point of the video.

    • @greenbeagle13
      @greenbeagle13 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Potaters12 - Meh, different strokes for different folks. He played and sang horribly (although he always sang pretty poorly). I was simply disappointed that I wasn't hearing the Bob Dylan songs/singing that I grew up with. And this was in the beginning of him turning to the electric guitar.
