The best demo of this, or any bass, I've seen in a mighty long time. Very entertaining. Dude I could hang out with you all day. Thank you, and I love my Alder and Ash versions of this blessed range of instruments. If you see Marcus any time soon remind him how much we love him, especially for this gift to the bass community. Peace from London.
Thanks for being the only person that did a demo and used your fingers two...everybody wants to pop on this bass,,,,,reviews and finally I can hear WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE
I wish I actually ran through the tone control under the main volume more. The bass can can sound like anything. It's incredible. Thanks for the nice note!
For sure! 2024 now, and I want to buy a U7 to go with my U5. The long-scale version is much different, although appearing similar: two-band active EQ, excellent electronics and hardware. I like the satin-black with a rosewood board, but I'd change the black knobs to satin nickel or brass, maybe upgrade the pickups? Still under $600 new, and most important for my bad back - they are light weight because of their slim (but wide) bodies. As a guitar player the U5 was the one to get, light weight, small body and thin neck, perfect for transitioning. My Ibanez TMB100 I bought at first had a neck that was too much for me, like an old Precision neck, but now that I've gotten used to playing bass I understand why people like the sound of long-scale basses!
Thanks for this great video! I just ordered one and greatly anticipating its arrival! You did a fantastic job of promoting this bass, your video is what sold me on getting one! Thanks sir!
hey Adam I am just going through different youtube covers about the V7 Miller basses. I LOVE Marcus works since the early 80s when I stumbled across the new projects of Miles Davis - since then I follow the work of Marcus and it really affected my approach to playing bass (although I never really got fluent in playing) So - in March 2015 i came across the V7 project. I looked it up interviews and i knew instantly that this is probably a bass me - and lots of other players out there - have been looking for. A really committed blending of high ambitions, knowledge AND challenging craftsmanship. As I am living in Germany I don´t have the luck to order directly from Sire but from a big retailer that sells these instruments exclusively in Germany. But they are sold outs fast that I couldn´t get hands on them... UNTIL NOW Today I got my 2 V7 basses. 4 string all blonde swamp ash and the alder 5 string and guess what THEY BLEW ME AWAY and exceeded ALL expectations. These things are blowing everything I heard out of the water and TO THAT PRICE! Playability, looks finish electronics (you don´t have to turn on the preamp to get into smiling tears over that tone and sustainnnn). Small downfall - the bag isn´t in the package here. Too sad. I had/have some basses Fender and others, no expensive ones but with these things you don´t have to look further - they work FOR you not AGAINST. So... a big thank you to Marcus and Sire to put these out to the Bass World on a REGULAR basis not as a limited teaser thingie!!!! And btw - great vid. Thanks
I have that exact model - got it in April and love it for the tone range and the comfortable feel. Great value -- $450 including shipping to Chicago, and includes a nice gig bag. I love the pre-amp, but passive sounds great too. On the pre-amp, I most often boost the bass tone since by default the instrument is bright. The midrange sweep can be used to help fine-tune the tone, depending on the instrumentation mix of the band and the characteristics of the room.
You are amazing!! Great review - I'm aiming to get one. I knew your father at Atlantic Records in 69/70. We did Roberta Flack Chapter Two - I was a studio asst. Your dad was a great guy - funny as hell and was respectful to all people - a sincerely good man. You look to be the same. God bless you. And damn, you can really play!
I just picked up one like the one you are playing in a 5'er... Got it used, as they are sold out.... The original owner put in Fralin pickups... the bass is a beast!
I'm definitely getting a sire. These are ridiculously good sounding and this is the best quality bass for way cheaper then any other company that u will find.
Really great review cat,I can't believe that alder can get that great a slap tone.Wonderful playing man. This video is what made me want to get an alder v7 second generation. Peace.
Great review! Believe the hype, this bass is the real deal ! Can't wait to get my second Sire V7 4 string , Absolutely loving my current V7 5 string Ash bass, That Tone!!!
Awesome Review on The Sire Basses Adam!....I am going to be getting the Sire V7 5 String Jazz Bass in Natural Color With Swamp Ash Body and Maple Fretboard.
Every review I've seen has been great; however, this one absolutely sold me...I'm a drummer by trade whose flirted with bass playing for YEARS.A big part of my hesitation to commit has been playing on a crappy age . This here removes ALL excuses....
Best review of this bass in my opinion. Adam Dorn is a beast on the bass. It was also suuuuper helpful and clear how he explained the double stack mid range control. Definitely considering picking one up if they make a lefty. Oh, and Dorn would say, GO BIRDS!
This is the second or third time I have seen this demo. I didn’t realize this dude is Mocean Worker. I uploaded his album to iTunes, and he is a killer composer and bassist. I still think he spreads it on a bit think about the quality of the V7. I recently got a 1st Generation V7, and I love it, but I do not think it sets up 5he same as a more expensive bass. My DJ5 Lakland sets up and plays better than my V7. I set up both myself.
Hey Adam just received mine last Friday like I told Detroit Bassist James Werts it has all the bells and whistles no disappointments here I’ve purchased the alder body 4 string
I purchased a lefty sunburst rosewood model back in May and it's been my main gigging bass ever since. A passive/active J for under $500 that kicks the crap out of a Fender J Deluxe? Believe it. I own several Js and J-style basses, but the Sire V7 is one of the best sounding/playing Js I've ever played.
Everyone is all jacked on the V7. But don't forget the V3. It's just a monster of a bass at an even better price. Mahogany body really sounds better to me. Much warmer and a better alternative for some folks. I'm never gonna be Marcus. I'm just me. So play that V3 too before spending the bigger dollar. V3 is a killer bass. It has tone for days! I love mine.
I have 3 different SIRE basses V7 -5 with barts Aguilar OBP3 and another V7-5 with stock pre amp with Aguilar j-hots and V9 all stock, I bought a Michael pope flexcore for it but it sounds so good I left it alone great feeling bass and enough bark to fulfill many platforms
Many bass players have been brainwashed into believing that a nasal bridge pickup favoring sound is the standard, I don't agree, long live Jamerson, Duck, Babbitt and Ronnie Baker. The big fundamental round sound is like a classic design that stands the test of time. Big up to Phil Chen.
Great build, tone & price. Young kids wants to play bass. Good to go. Sounds every bit as good as my US 70's Fender. What new bass player will be disappointed by this?
The alder body has a nice price point . That rosewood finger board is also very important for that Motown sound . I have two Lakland basses, one with rosewood and one maple . The maple has a good all around sound but it can not reproduce the rose wood sound . I think I will purchase a 4 string in maple/alder since I have a maple five string that I don't use very often .
Adam.great review. But, you kept saying that its cost is $399. The M3 cost is $399,the V7's cost is $499. Thanks for the great review. Keep up the good work.
Hi, He clearly states that it costs $399. I went to the website and the only V7 Marcus Miller was a Second Gen for $545 or something like that. I want one the same as the one Adam is playing for the price that he repeatedly says.
Great Playin and demo! I just got mine and love it. Need something to practice through here in NYC. Have any recommendations for an amp combo or something good to through with great sound? Either way, thanks a bunch for the advice:)
Hi Adam,Just wanna ask how to set up your preamp?I have one V7 of Swamp ash body and maple neck, sometimes I confuse with the set up because the bass is too loud and treble is too low even I turn the bass preamp lower and lower:(
Hey Phillybassguy I almost bought into the "Plumber" thing even though I knew the voice was just a fun thing you do.But I also thought you sounded a bit too much like a heavy hitter on the bass, So now I know.:) BTW I've got a souped up 74 Jazz, a Moon,a Atelier Z and a few others, I should be set but that review really is making me think adding another bass now.The Alder model really does sound great. Can you do a review of the 5 string?
+MrBooty61 I had never seen one before but apparently you are right , thanks for the note. sometimes you just miss stuff over the course of time. This bass is a beast though!
+Rob Harvy hey man, actually yes it does. I would put flat wounds on this bass to get that tone though. NOT super bright strings like I have. The secret to that tone would be to roll off on the tone control right under the MAIN VOLUME knob. Ive been messing around with just that tone control lately. WOW......its kind of seriously flexible. As always though..........if you wanna go Jamerson its ALL about technique and your touch. It'll sound great on this bass though. hope that helps!
That bass has some serious snap to its tone. The kind of bass I could use when I get the urge to do some serious thumping and popping. Do they make it in a cobalt blue?
I've only been playing around in bass for almost 2 years, and I ordered a one earlier this month. My girlfriend and I are not-so patiently waiting for it to finally come in so we can fart around on bass together x)

Can't wait to get mine! I think I watched this video 20 times! That sound!!! Aww!
What model?
Yeah, me too!!LOL
same here. Best Sire Promo vid i've seen. i love mine. it's the same one Adam is playing at the beginning of the vid.
This man reviewing a bass but giving great insight for all bass players! Love it!
For sure! 2024 now, and I want to buy a U7 to go with my U5. The long-scale version is much different, although appearing similar: two-band active EQ, excellent electronics and hardware. Great player's great review.
Thanks a lot. Mr.Dorn.
Thank you. You are welcome :)
7:40 when I finally HAD to agree that it sounds really great (the slap part sounds cool but not that revealing)
Hello Mr. Dorn, What calibre of strings using in to your bass? Thanks
Possibly one of the best demo videos fir a bass guitar I've ever seen. I'm completely sold and will be getting one around Xmas
THIS IS THE BEST REVIEW ON TH-cam

One ☝️ of best reviews I’ve seen and dude can actually play
I don't know how they do it! Phenomenal bass, phenomenal build quality, and unbelievable preamp...The gig bag is pretty cool too.
A year one, I watch this demo again. Brilliant!... Again.
I have that exact model - got it in April and love it for the tone range and the comfortable feel. Great value -- $450 including shipping to Chicago, and includes a nice gig bag. Tom DiPietro GREAT comments. you're spot on!
Got mine since a few months… sick!!!! Never seen such a bass for such a small price. Get one quick, you won't regret it.
excellent review, and sweet playing too! thank you for taking the time to share your input on this very nice instrument.
My dear friend vuyani wakaba is really using sire basses and
He couldn't be any happier.marcus, you have done something amazing
One of the best reviews. l would find it difficult now to spend a few thousand on a new jazz bass.
Thank you for this excellent review. Great musician with a great piece of gear.
I got the natural 5 string. $654 delivered to my house in Illinois USA this video helped me! I've had mine for about 6 months
Really great review cat,I can't believe that alder can get that great a slap tone.Wonderful playing man. This video is what made me want to get an alder v7 second generation. Peace.
I am sold- I want one!!!! Adam is bad to the bone, nice to see a review from a killing player.
+Jason Rosner- Bass glad you dig it man! You'll fall hard for this bass man! thanks for the kind words :)
Dude is Sick!! That Bass has a killer sound!!
Great review! Believe the hype, this bass is the real deal ! Can't wait to get my second Sire V7 4 string , Absolutely loving my current V7 5 string Ash bass, That Tone!!!
nice review you really showcase how good this bass is
Having so much pain (to my ears) trying to get that slap sound right that you do awesomely! Sounds great man!
Thanks so much for this review, Adam Dorn!
I'm ordering one tomorrow man..........NICE!!!! Great review man........ really looking forward to this bass
6:18-6:30 just steals my soul! Sick, sick tone.
NOSSA MEU IRMÃO, QUE BAIXO LOCO, QUANDO VÊM PARA O BRASIL????
thanks man, ordering one today, seems they have made a good impression on the bass community of late, tks Rob

Oh, and Dorn would say, GO BIRDS!
Thanks for the kind words!! They make lefty basses!!! Rejoice!! Go birds!!
Gonna get me one for sure soon.
Still deciding on
5 or 4 string.
That riff at 10 min is put a smile on my face 🤓👍

Thanks, Adam, great review! I'll get one!
will order mine in the next day or so.. Adam, you sold me!
Have to get me one - sounds really nice. Cheers for the demo. Cheers Paul. Perth wa
That sounds great! I just purchased a 2nd gen. It's on the plane at this moment. Over the ocean somewhere.
Everyone is all jacked on the V7. But don't forget the V3. It's just a monster of a bass at an even better price. Mahogany body really sounds better to me. Much warmer and a better alternative for some folks. I'm never gonna be Marcus. I'm just me. So play that V3 too before spending the bigger dollar. V3 is a killer bass. It has tone for days! Damn you, Adam Dorn! I just got mine and I can't put it down! :-) Seriously, thanks a lot for this demo;
Great review, bass and playing!!!!!!!
Definitely ordered the Natural/Ash about a month ago.
Sire basses aren’t just some of the best basses out there for the money. They’re, simply, some of the best basses out there, period.
Didn't realise Adam was this good
I really need a video like this one about the M7
Many bass players have been brainwashed into believing that a nasal bridge pickup favoring sound is the standard, I don't agree, long live Jamerson, Duck, Babbitt and Ronnie Baker. The big fundamental round sound is like a classic design that stands the test of time. Big up to Phil Chen.
The bridge pickup tone is more articulate and funky.
Great build, tone & price. Young kids wants to play bass. Good to go. Sounds every bit as good as my US 70's Fender. What new bass player will be disappointed by this?
i've ordered the swamp ash one and can't wait!
i've bought the black 4 string alder and the m3 is ordered...
kind regards from berlin (germany)
That is crazy tone . I want one .
Really thinking about getting this!!
OK OK!!! Stop it!!! I´m buying one!!!!! ;)
André Machado me too :-)
Very nice sounding bass
Maybe one day Sire could develop a 210 combo amp. Would compliment the beginners market really well.
you should make Precision basses too... I'd love the amazing outcome of this idea
Adam.great review. But, you kept saying that its cost is $399. The M3 cost is $399,the V7's cost is $499. Thanks for the great review. Keep up the good work.
Actually the alder/rosewood 4st v7 IS $399. It's the ash/maple 4st v7 and the alder/rosewood 5st which are $499.
Hi,
He clearly states that it costs $399. I went to the website and the only V7 Marcus Miller was a Second Gen for $545 or something like that.
I want one the same as the one Adam is playing for the price that he repeatedly says.
Didn't know Vin Diesel played bass!
thats hysterical. HA!!!!
Talk is good, Philly is IT.
No way, that's a monster steal for that price range
Great Playin and demo! I just got mine and love it. Need something to practice through here in NYC. Have any recommendations for an amp combo or something good to through with great sound? Either way, thanks a bunch for the advice:)
From my years of playing, I know the amp has a lot to do with the sound and tone a bass player craves. What are you playing through?
Hi Adam,Just wanna ask how to set up your preamp?I have one V7 of Swamp ash body and maple neck, sometimes I confuse with the set up because the bass is too loud and treble is too low even I turn the bass preamp lower and lower:(
i have one too and as you are I'm having the same sound issues too! have you figured out whats causing the problem yet?
And there's players that are asking around about replacement preamps and pickups.
Hey Phillybassguy I almost bought into the "Plumber" thing even though I knew the voice was just a fun thing you do.But I also thought you sounded a bit too much like a heavy hitter on the bass, So now I know.:)
BTW I've got a souped up 74 Jazz, a Moon,a Atelier Z and a few others, I should be set but that review really is making me think adding another bass now.The Alder model really does sound great. Can you do a review of the 5 string?
i'd love a passive j bass with 70s spacing and all natural swamp ash + maple neck and fretboard
Great Bass! Adam i have a question...If I use the passive mode the bass doesn't use the battery right?
someone needs to do a fretless video.. I want one..
18v preamp aren't that rare. Old USA Peaveys like the Millennium, Cirrus, and Forum were 18v. The Music Man Bongo is 18v.
+MrBooty61 I had never seen one before but apparently you are right , thanks for the note. sometimes you just miss stuff over the course of time. This bass is a beast though!
+MrBooty61 How much do those bass guitars cost?
Pleeeeeeeaaaase make a P bass model
I need a preview of the V7 vintage model alder & ash body models
Un gran bajo por lo que veo, no sé si en México se pueda conseguir.
Great Demo and playing. Thanks a lot! How do the elder and ash models differ soundwise? Thanks again
How do y'all till not have a review of the P7??????
Thank you so much, i like to know what amp you use, and pedals… thank you Adam
Huub
can we get a vintage vs. V7 5 string demo.I think I want a 3rd sire bass vintage V7 alder body rosewood 5 stringer. But is there a big difference?
Sounds great! Any single-coil humming from bridge or neck if one or the other is selected? Thx!
Great review but I'm curious to know what Philly Guy thinks.
(Yes I know his review is out there. :))
He think it are a great bass and he wants to meet Marcus so he could shake his hand and salute him. Thank you.
+Adam Dorn He should go to a NAMM show.. Two things I want for 2016.. That MM bass and an authentic Philly Cheesesteak sandwich.
I just have one question, in passive does it still need charged bateries? Or can you still use it with dead bateries?
I 2nd that question .
u can use when dead
Hi Adam, hey are those the strings that came on it?
Hi from Oz Adam,
does this bass have a good "Motown Jamerson" tone you can dial in, loved your review, very informative, I'll have to get one!
I want this bass so bad!
That bass has some serious snap to its tone. The kind of bass I could use when I get the urge to do some serious thumping and popping. Do they make it in a cobalt blue?
These basses!!!! They sound correct!
Love this.
more CHORDS please,Adam.
wich is the diference between Marcus miller V7 swamp ash and marcus miller v7 75 vintage alder? thank you
I'm going to get one.....
I've only been playing around in bass for almost 2 years, and I ordered a one earlier this month. My girlfriend and I are not-so patiently waiting for it to finally come in so we can fart around on bass together x)
Because this video I ordered this guitar right now (Five strings, Alder), sincerely hope will not be disappointed
TNX (:
I was wondering what happens while playing active and the battery went empty. Can you swith right away to play passive and keep having sound?
yes
awesome bass ima get one ASAP no kidding...and adam what amp and speakers are u using ?
