I sold my MM stingray 5 and bought a 4 and a 5 string sire. They sound awesome and the 5 string is 100% easier to play than a stingray which I feel a little tight and heavy. My only gripe with the bass is the tone board and battery compartments are a little shabby. I understand that this is an amazing bit of kit for the money though!
I love my sire much better than my mm4 so much that I don't regret selling it. The main difference is the fender mm4 has a little more natural bite to it, but that can be made up for with the onboard eq. I also love the look and feel of the sire more than the fender. I had to close my eyes to pick up the but ugly fender lol. It's the main reason I sold it, people say it doesn't matter what a bass looks like. But that's not true for me. If I can't stand to look at it, I'm not going to play it, regardless of how good it sounds lol.
Greetings from Seattle.... I bought a Sire V7 from one of your homies, Kerry Lacy!! I absolutely love this bass!! Kerry put Lindy Fralin's in it, but the preamp is stock. OMG! this bass plays so well and the sound and tone is off the hook! Detroit bassists rule!! and.... of course.... Philly!
I purchased a 5 string MM sire, and I also have Fedora, Music Man 5, NYC Sadowski & after a couple of personal mods ( tuners, Mike Pope pre-amp, nordi’s & removed the finish off neck ) sounds like a lot but I don’t have any bass I purchased and eventually I would personalize it. I really really can’t put it down, I wake up playing it and now I sold my MM and got two more Sire’s and did the same thing V7 vantages 70’s spacing & V9 all have exactly the same upgrades except the vintage I changed the bridge (after long searching) & I felt not a bit of change nothing I noticed so I left my others alone and now I take these on the road, they make all my tones and they are tough and they feel unbelievable I mean I don’t want to sound crazy but really I am sorry if I offended anyone but my opinion is that with my usual mods my Sire (for all around use) stands up to even the great ones!!! SIRE
Thanks gentlemen for doing this video. I know it's genuine bc I hear that clothes dryer in the background! Now I gotta have one. I need the 5-string model. It sounded like the harmonics came out clean also.
Thanks for talking about and fiddling with the MM Sire V7. A perfect way for another bass to talk for itself. On the controvery about the mid range control, I'm guessing Mr. Miller, a grand daddy of slap, realized possibilities that contrasting the lows (thump) with the highs (pluck) could be accentuated by varying the mids. Musically, however, one wouldn't want to detract from the instruments inherent natural harmonic color across the scales.
Question for Toney Big Poppa Mo: How is your recovery from Rotator Cuff surgery going? I'm supposed to have the surgery on my left shoulder. Docs say 6-9 months recovery time. Could you talk about your experience with the procedure and the recovery process?
I had my surgery on 3/30/15 and I'm still having trouble with it....I had a lot of scar tissue and I'm going to have to have another surgery on 1/4/16 to clean up the scar tissue....good luck with yours cause your may not be as bad as mind....keep us posted
Thanks for your reply. Man, that's rough! Sorry you are having complications. That's my main worry, that I'll actually have more problems after. I had a surgery (subacromial decompression) on the same shoulder in 1998, seems like I never recovered from it. I had to quit playing the old upright, now it's affecting my bass guitar playing. Best wishes to you with your next procedure. Getting old Sucks!
+obtuseification You might want to look at the reviews for those little Kala U-basses:) There's people out there that had to stop playing upright due to injuries but found they get a great upright sound out of this little bass that's so much more compact to play where they can continue to enjoy the upright sound without suffering. Very seasoned bassist are using them at gigs and people are surprised at the big sound these little basses can produce. One of the best therapies you can do is try to get in the pool. Hydrotherapy works wonders:) BTW, can't wait for my Sire V7. Supposed to ship around Dec 15th:) So they say.
I go to music stores now and have noticed that Sire Basses have caused a huge reduction in inventory. Its a complete domination of the bass retail industry. So stay tuned for my next with Marcus Miller Sire 5 string bass.
My bad Big Ivan. What I should have said was; I found it distracting to focus on the discussion with the random playing going on at the same time. The term "wanking" was not a good choice. I got that term from guitar/music store salesmen referring to musicians just randomly playing usually at high volume. Thanks for bringing this to my attention .
HELLO guys i need your help . i have an issue with my marcus miller bass PICKUPS .so i will put a new EMG J-Set BK pickups to it . does that change the sound to the worse or is it better ?
Thanks for the review. If, hypothetically, the Sire V7 and a Fender Standard American Jazz were both $599, which one one would choose to buy? Thanks again for a great review.
Marcus stuck a knife in the heart of Fender with this bass. I have the 5 string V3 which is a lower cost version of the V7. Same electronics, different bridge and tuners, but still a way better bass than my jazz deluxe 4. It goes for $419.00! I could sell my fender and get 2 more Sires.
+john smith (joe) It probably wasn't done by a member of their mutual admiration society. Ive is not telling who did it so it was probably done by a guy from Philly :)
+john smith (joe) My guess is mid 70s Jazz with compression, direct. I still think it's a really funky little piece. If they have a guy in their club who can play like that they should show him some love and mention his name. They are a nice bunch of people but I sure haven't heard a "Bassmint" clip with a guy who could even come close to playing that intro.
+john smith (joe) Well, a Marcus Miller bass is a mid 70s Fender so we' may both be right!!! But it looks like we'll never know for sure.:) I was more interested who the player was.He has something special going on. Sure it could be more perfect but that guy can play.....
+gimmeagig YALL ARE FUNNY, BUT YOUR COMMENTS SAY A LOT, THE FIRST THEN YOUR COMMENTS SAY IS THAT YOU DON'T WATCH THE ENTIRE VIDEOS, BECAUSE IF YOU WATCH THE ENTIRE VIDEO, AT THE END OF EVERY VIDEO IS A QUICK CREDIT THAT SAYS WHO IS PLAYING THE BASS ON THE INTRO, SO DO ME A FAVOR MY BASS FRIENDS AND JUST WATCH THE VIDEO TO THE VERY END AND YOU WILL KNOW WHO IS PLAYING THE BASS ON THE INTRO, IN CLOSING IM SORRY I DONT REPLY TO A LOT OF YOUR COMMENTS, BUT I GET THOUSANDS OF COMMENTS AND I CAN'T REPLY TO THEM ALL, AND A LOT OF TIME PEOPLE AS THE EXACT SAME QUESTION 100'S OF TIME, I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND, WITH THAT SAID,,,,,I THANK YOU ALL FOR WATCHING THESE BASS VIDEOS, PLEASE CONTINUE THERE ARE MORE TO COME, I THANK YOU SO MUCH, AND IF YOU ARE EVER IN DETROIT, LET GO TO THE BASSMINT.
+Ivan Big Ive Williams My Bad, yes, when I thing the clip is over I oten move on to the next. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy you guys. I really like listening to that intro. Now I know who played it. So I did a search on Dave Henderson looking for maybe some other music that he plays bass on.but nothing came up. Is he a member of your club? Who does he play with?
The Fender MM 4 string was NOT made in Indonesia, it was made in Japan !!!!!!!!! Not judging but the Japan made Fenders were very high quality, at one point some were better than the US made versions. I have no experience with the Sire MM guitars made in Indonesia, so they could be high quality aswell.

Okay so the Sire bass is the best bass for the money hands down. All my future basses will be MM Sire.
I have a Alder V7 5-string and a M3 on its way. best bass I've played.
I'll be ordering the fretless version soon!!

Man, I didn't like the video that much, but i'd kill to have a bunch of bass nerd buddies like you have.

I feel you,,,,, when you in Detroit bring a BASS come to the BASSMINT
What do you think of Yamaha BB424x and BB425x basses compared to this Sire V7? They are pretty similar in price range.
HELLO guys i need your help . i have an issue with my marcus miller bass PICKUPS .so i will put a new EMG J-Set BK pickups to it . does that change the sound to the worse or is it better ?
I just want to ask you there tow types of bass guitare marcus miller v7? ??
Anybody know what bass the guy in glasses is holding? The one with the single hum bucker MM style?
Can you do a video on the Sire Marcus Miller M3
Thanks for the review. If, hypothetically, the Sire V7 and a Fender Standard American Jazz were both $599, which one one would choose to buy? Thanks again for a great review.
+jay contrino I would choose the one that had the lower labor costs.

Do you know what kind of strings were put on it? Great review!! Love mine and I'm a sax player ha
+john smith (joe) haha, good name hilarious!
Active pickups are the only way to go Big Poppa Mo.......
If you've never played bass before, and you're looking to purchase your first one, should you buy a 4 string, or a 5 string?
5
+Ivan Big Ive Williams why 5? Just asking.
I need that low B, I really need a low A, but im not into alternate tunings
I think that one should have a vintage-ish fender-ish passive 4 string j bass and active modern 5 string.
I love that into Jam.Where did it come from. Who''s the bass player?
+john smith (joe) It probably wasn't done by a member of their mutual admiration society. Ive is not telling who did it so it was probably done by a guy from Philly :)

Oh sweet jesus!! I CANNOT believe these basses are as cheap as they are! MAAAAAAN!!!!
was this particular bass an ash or adler?
as far as i know this color is only available in the Swamp Ash model
+BeJomon ok thank you
I asked Sire about a natural Alder, they only have the natural finish in Swamp Ash.

200HZ to 1k is the midrange frequency.
Dang can you stop playing for a second so my man can ask a question??
I don't mean no harm man but you talk too much let bass players play and let them talk
