- Welcome to another episode of the Top 5 Arma 3! In this episode, I am going to share with you the 5 tips to find the right milsim unit for you. Having been in the milsim community for some time, there is a lot of that I have learned along the way as units disband or other things happen that make me search for a new unit. Being in the right group and surrounded by the right people is what makes this experience amazing and I hope to share with you more than just how to find a milsim unit by looking at things to look out for and what you need to do to find the group you're looking for.

Great video! I am one of the outliers that found a great group on the first try. I really love being in a unit and I hope anyone who is looking for a group finds the right one.
I totally agree with your final tip. If a player isn't having fun that dissatisfaction can spread throughout the rest on the unit, lessening the fun for everyone involved.
I also agree with the advice to leave in the right way. Milsim communities talk to each other and a reputation can follow you from one unit to another (seen this actually happen before).
Thank you for the mention of the DLC, really was looking for what the average DLC is for most clans. Or if i needed to buy DLC at all.
Dude last point is a little heavy but gotta remember the good times and moving in is very serious. Very good points. If you feel like you’ve stopped having fun, you probably have.
Hey man, literally doing this right now. Great tips the one I’ve felt has helped the most so far is if they let you in the general chat in the discord. I’m waiting for my computer to get shipped over seas so Ive basically been scouting until it gets here. I’ve found a unit that I mesh really really well with is a halo unit which I’m not particularly thrilled about halo gameplay. The unit I actually want to join seems kinda closed off and I have to try and pry answers out of them but they run the kinda ops that I’m looking for. I hope to maybe get in the teamspeak on an op to just hear the communication since I’ve got a week or 2 to make a decision. Just wanted to say you basically hit the nail on the head with that one.
Yep! Units that I have come across are hit or miss with letting people in with even the most general conversations. I personally am turned off by that though.
Don't have as much time as I did earlier but this makes me want to find a unit again.

I have found some pretty cool teams while watching ARMA games on Twitch. The other methods also work are definitly faster but the most fun teams you will find on Twitch.

I play this game differently, so I am fine with me just sharing what I discover on different mods. I am an instrument rated private pilot, so I focus on flying for this sandbox.
I just started a Special Forces unit about a month ago and this really helps me Tailor my unit recruitment to specific people.

@@Tactical_Jai hey, sorry for the long response time Iv been kinda busy getting the ball rolling on our future deployment and training cycle. We are marine raider and 160th Soar task force working together on a common goal of completing the mission. Our unit is honestly a family on our days that we don’t do operations all of us will still be in the community discord and just hang out and play other games. We are at 16 active personnel at this time and want to grow to only about 20 people with a few in reserves. Lets say I want to become a dedicated zeus, making operations and trimming the ai to not be so goofy. Ya'know make missions in live game. How would I go about finding a unit or a group to do that with/for?

Being a girl and also doing arma is rare but i always dont like communicating because i never know what to say. Other than that really good video! and at some point i will probably try a unit out but being shy and all that, wont join one ina bit.
I want to join a unit, but... I have a family, and a demanding job. Are there any units that offer the ability to play when I can? I'm looking for a very strict unit like, speak when spoken to, shut up and follow orders. I want to just be a grunt soldier in military sim. But again I don't have time to play everyday, or even once a week. I feel like people don't understand responsibility, I'm sick of getting kicked for "lack of attendance" like why do people care when you play? As long as I do log in for an operation when I can. I don't know lol I just want to play

My biggest issue with trying to join a unit is my age, I got into mil sim at 12 and I am 13 right now. I really want to join a unit but they can't take me seriously thanks to my age. Is there any unit that I can join at 13?

I’m looking for a unit I been playing arma 3 for a couple years
my group had stated they made a GTArp server before going into arma 3. thr group hasnt grown since i joined, and the group is slowly getting bored because they arent thinking of an overall goal. i thought i could start recruiting people, running my own training ect, but he never uploaded my maps to the server, an just doesnt have the game knowledge to be running anything military wise. its a constant deathloop on vanilla escape missions with this unit. its time to say goodbye to them.
if your making your own group, just be sure you have someone committed with you so that your spending enough time understanding how to reach your goals. if you are just trying to run multiplayer maps with randoms, it wont work, as you'll be asking them to download an update all sorts of mods to stay compatible.

ArmA 3 is definitely a game ive forever kinda wanted to try out. Ive tried a few other.....milsim-ish games like Americas Army and the old Project Reality mod for BF2. I really enjoyed the hell out of PR. Yes, I know Squad is basically PR modern, but I have no desire to PVP. I would rather get in with a casual, yet semi-serious milsim unit to do PVE ops. Been t here, done that, got the T-shirt with PVP and dont have the desire to do it anymore. I more like to get lost in the immersion of it all, rather than fighting for KDR and all that jazz. Kinda burnt out on random pug games and the chaos that usually entails. Looking for coordination, coop and communication. Im personally kinda bad at communication, but always good to improve and learn on that front.

Hey, i want to start playing arma 3 and i want to join a milsim. I dont have many spare hours in my week, so How much time would a milsim take out of my week.
I dont have the game yet, but milsims are the reason i want the game. So How much time does arma 3 take, ca.
I really depends on the unit. Some units require you to attend a training schedule that ends up being like 12 hours per week, others only need you to show up to official days on the weekend for 2-3 hours.
Do expect though to have to make some sort of initial time investment for a basic training-like session. These are to make sure your mods are setup right, you know the standard operating procedures, and all that stuff. After that it should be smooth sailing.
All that being said, I've only ever been in one milsim unit so take this with a grain o' salt.

18:45 Heavily disagree, a lot of people really enjoy this aspect of units when people take the time to learn about what they're representing and doing. In a way, historical units **from my 7k hours of experience and others I have met** have had the highest retention rate and highest activity rate from people. A lot of it comes down to the little details and care for the unit, but as you've said before you haven't fully committed to a unit and you have a lot of other things going on, so this is fair.
There's so much realism that even ethically dubious recruiters trying to make their quotas are a thing. Yikes.
Yeah this game would really grow if the community didnt have a hard on for running teamspeak and discord at the same time. Literally nonsense community where 99% of all players have never seen combat but pretend they have.

Unfortunately that isn't easy to do from what I have come across. Grudges get built and its not easy to keep two opposing sides unified.
@@WarIsHell I just want more so A group makes an Op and just have both sides be players.
