Making it fun whilst occasionally giving the players a challenge. Also most importantly to me not doing stuff they don’t have a counter to, e.g spawning a tank when they don’t have AT

My tips for those who are interested in improving.
    1. Command & Create
To expand on this about being in the commanders shoes. If it's a simple town objective or really any objective I always put down an officer in a location that makes sense. If he gets killed then reinforcements will stop coming. Don't do this for every objective of course and sometimes making it easier for the players to find and kill this officer is better and a more enjoyable experience. They don't want to play hide and seek.
Ensure that these units are not being spawned behind buildings or behind mountains. Depending on the force type they're fighting they should come from an established base. That's not to say have 100 units in the base. But just some base units and if you want reinforcements you spawn them in the base and send them from there. It's more immersive and makes sense in the timeframe for reinforcements time. There is a time and place for placing a few extra units down however 9 times out of 10 it's better they come from an established units.
Units should be able to see the area they're calling support (OPFOR). Even if you get a guy on some high ground with binoculars watching the palyers.
    2. Find Balance and Action
All solid points really good. You don't need an army of units to create action. A small organized ambush is a lot more intense than waves of enemies. Also what I've done before is a well hidden sniper engaging 1 bullet every 10-15m. It drove the players crazy they were constantly on edge and just started calling in airstrikes were they thought the guy was only to be shot at again.
    3. Storytelling
Just brought back so many memories. I have nothing to add Waters covered it all really well. Some great tips I learned a bit.
    4. Consequences
    Solid points. Well covered.

I actually shared this video in the Zeus channel of the unit I'm in and I think this video was (atleast for me) very helpful and I'm definitely gonna use this in my next operation.

I find having some sort of 3 Act structure really has elevated my ops. The formula that I find always working for me is having the first act having a lot of action and then some downtime during the middle, with it picking up again near the end. I also find having some sort of twist in the middle or end will keep players engaged as well.
For my last op I zeused the mission was to recover data from a mysteriously crashed Russian A-150 to see what Intel the enemy has on us and their intel as well. Now most mission makers would start the op with your guys going in on boats or SVDs and going straight to the blackbox. Instead, the staging point for the mission was being attacked, encircled, and blockaded by enemy forces. So for the first act of the mission, the players were trying to get into the town to reach their submarines. It's not wildly realistic, but it makes for a FUN scenario which I find more important.
It was secretly a Bermuda Triangle/Lovecraft styled op. Some of the enemies and friendlies they encountered would look oddly deformed (Webknights Zombie Skins). When they get in their SVDs command (me) would notify them that we can't find any signs of the Russian Navy and all communications from the Town have cut off. A wild storm approached at this time, and when the players reach the blackbox, they would get ambushed by Russian Zombie Scuba Divers (it was epic as fuck) and after some time I would spawn a Weather+ tornado and make them go unconciouss, where I would teleport them to "Ry'leh" because they have uncovered eldritch secrets. I basically made this thing in eden editor where they had to walk down 1000m from Sea Level to this ancient underwater city and find the statue of the god and destroy it to break the curse. They find some C4 near the corpse of the russian airmen and some intel about how to fight the god. They reach the end and I created this boss arena and placed down some STALKER anomalies. They defeat the God and wake up on the shore near the city, and get overrun by Russian and American zombies, but that was the point cause that was the end of the mission.
Really had fun with that one and the feedback was really good, everytime I use this formula people always really enjoy it.

Really helpful video! I’ve been with a small Arma group for a while and I plan to make my first Zeus Op soon. I’ll keep these in mind when I’m making it.

I thought about fog of war and realized it is possible to make a script that hides specific units from Zeus when those units are not spotted by his faction. This is because the effect of hideObject command is local.

Honestly Im just bad at thinking of mission ideas, I can balance everything fine and I like to think my storytelling is decent. My missions are really just, take this point, destroy this builidng, kill this guy, capture X. And thats pretty much it. Also my players get mad for not giving them much artillery support, if theyre having trouble with something, of course Ill let them have it but otherwise why would I give them artillery for a mission thats "go destroy this" when the artillery could just be used to destroy that.

Hey man! It’s Waters here. For most mission ideas, it’s helpful to have a team or someone to bounce ideas off of! Especially now, you can use AI to help with that.
Most of the mission ideas I’ve had, are just from people telling me things they want to do. Or I’ve gotten ideas from other games like modern warfare.
As for the players being mad about arty not being available, that’s a tough one to balance with them. I think the best thing to do is say that arty isn’t available, or needs time to be prepped. Arty can also have a bad shot that maybe comes a little to close.
