Rudd is eaten in eastern europe. Its delicatessen. Its prepared dehydrated (sun dried), or smoked. Helps to ingest with tons of adult beverages lol. 1

Nice well thought out video. Surprised I didn’t find your channel sooner. Dropped you a thumbs up and joined your cause. Cheers to a fellow Ontario angler.

Wow, it's interesting to see that these fish are found in significant numbers in some parts of the province. We might see a similar development in the coming years with Tench and perhaps some other European species from the minnow family. I'm not advocating introducing invasive species, but it should be noted that pike grow significantly larger in Europe due to the prevalence of soft-finned species like rudd, and I wonder whether or not we'll see that happen in some parts of Ontario where these species establish themselves.

That's a great point. We've seen smallmouth grow bigger and bigger as a result of gobies, so it's conceivable that pike/musky would be growing too as Rudd become more widely distributed. I have fished the spot in the video for probably 10 years every spring and this is the first time I've caught Rudd year. Many other anglers fishing the waterbody got Rudd this year as well, so they have definitely found a home there.

@@lylegayder Thanks for the reply. Perhaps a more significant case of damage caused by invasive species could be traced back not to fish from overseas, but people stocking crappies into new waterbodies. While I was happy to see them appear on the lake I grew up on as a kid (probably natural spread via the Trent-Severn waterway) where there were no visible negative effects, in some lake systems like Scugog their predation upon walleye fry has greatly hurt the fishery there. I also know of at least one lake where crappies appeared and ciscoes have disappeared.

I wonder could they be used for a fish dip or spread

Soak in a vinegar and salt brine for a few minutes and then blend in a food processor to make a fish dip
