Love Steve and Eydie. That was a time when variety entertainment ruled TV. That was a time when music was wonderful and timeless. Give me variety TV over reality TV any day. Give me that style of music any day over what you hear today.
"The Honeymoon is Over" is a fun song by Tom Jones (not _that_ Tom Jones) and Harvey Schmidt from the musical "I Do! I Do!" which I saw with the inimitable Mary Martin and Robert Preston on Broadway in 1967, so the song was current when Steve and Eydie performed it here. Just one good song after another in that musical in so many moods. Steve and Eydie could have played those parts too. I wonder if they ever did "I Do! I Do!" on tour. Of course, they had their own hit Broadway musical a few months after this aired, "Golden Rainbow."
You are so very right about all the many things that they could have done. Did you know that Eydie was first offered. "funny girl" on Broadway before Barbra Streisand? Eydie insisted that Steve must play the part of Nikki arnstein in the show. They refused so Eydie then rejected the starring role. What a shame! Eydie always put her family first with her career. This is the reason why she never became the great star she should have become like Judy Garland, barbra streisand etc.🤔🥺
I love at the end Eydie goes "one more". It's hysterical! What talent and class! I'm 18 I wish this would come back. Current entertainment it just plain untalented, fake, and trashy these days.
In Hollywood's Golden age of Musicals every singer Lip synced to their own pre-recorded voices & from the start of "talkies" to the last of the great musicals, the Stars under contract to the Studios, perfected this. you never knew they were lip syncing. Now a days on TV when ppl sing, u can tell they're out of sync. Judy Garland totally nailed the lip syncing down in all her muscials. Ed Sullivan rarely had singers lip sync on his show. Sometimes lip syncing is noticeable no one is perfect.
The best ever. We saw many of their live shows. So cute together.
Thanks for posting this. LOVE Steve and Eydie. Now, this is singing!
Superb entertainment like no one will ever see or hear ever again !!!

I would imagine Eydie usually got her way in that relationship. She was so damned cute and quite persuasive I'm sure.
John King, I get the same feeling. Gorme was all those things you mentioned. And you could probably throw in "head-strong" too.

They were definitely MUCH BETTER than the material they were stuck singing..... Bob in Toronto
@NFitalianGuy The performers on AMERICAN BANDSTAND lip synced, and Dick Clark never pretended otherwise on-air.
