Wow. Such a long melody, compiled, orchestrated, memorized by Carol and Eydie, choreographed for dancers, rehearsed and performed -- all for one television show -- then discarded. For years, there were big musical production numbers like this one created for one shot on television shown almost every night. Where has it all gone? Thank goodness for TH-cam.
We used to take this for granted back then when these shows were on almost nightly, wow do we need it again but who could do it? Two legends having a ball.
When she sang Over the rainbow so powerful and flawless, she got a huge round of applause because the audience really missed Judy Garland. they needed to hear someone to do that song justice. It's impossible for anyone but Garland to sing that song. Eydie gave me chills!
I know what you mean. My parents and I never missed this show. Back then there were only a few channels, compared to now. Why TV execs can't see that it's qualitiy not quantity is sad. I don't even watch TV anymore, haven't for years and my life is richer for it.
I like how they sing a couple of Judy Garland numbers in a row, ending with Eydie's Over The Rainbow. It's a nice nod to the legend who had passed away only 8 years before this.
Oh man.... what a duet!! Edye and Carol together... I'm amazed, stunned by the sheer talend f them both! They don't make them like this anymore, the music, the entertainment, the sense of humour... everything was so much better and easier.... thanks for posting!! Carol for Queen, I say!!
WOW, what a wonderful clip of the two queens of music, Loved them both. Such talent,Judy Garland is my absolute favorite and loved it when Ede started singing, "SomewhereOver The Rainbow!!!! - I watched all the Carol Burnett shows, what talent, both great singers, look fantastic and singing the famous songs from the 70's. Thanks for posting this to you tube. This is just fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome clip! What is so great about both of these ladies as performers is their abilities to mesh great vocal "from the shoes" belting along with the comedic characterizations on the Disney tune and then right back to the belting. And all done in a very charming manner. So entertaining!!! No pop stars these days are doing this kind of thing?! Hello?!
OMG! This has made my day. I watched The Carol Burnett Show faithfully and would wait in sheer anticipation for the musical finalie's. I actually had this particular one recorded on a cassette and would listen to it for hours. For years. It's since been lost. So to discover this and still remember the words is astonishing. BRAVO!!! And THANK YOU!!!
Yes and what they deleted was usually the musical numbers like this one. Columbia House put out a set of these shows that were complete. However not every episode was put on DVD and not in chronological order.
Sadly when this show went into syndication they deleted about 30 minutes of the show. Thank god SOME of the episodes have been issued on DVD. But they still have a way to go.
What a beautiful voice had Eydie Gorme simple exquisite Carol sound like a duck l am sorry l love Carol Burnett but when she sing beside a somebody so great like Eydie Gorme she sound not to good but thank you for sharing this video is so wonderful seeing Eydie singing in video is so rare; thank you, thank you, thank you
The first part is a tribute to the great Ms. Garland...Carol Burnett always had the most unflattering hairstyle...and an amazingly ugly-sounding voice!
You don't see this kind of entertainment on TV anymore. Great talents! What passes today for entertainment is garbage.
I'd rather watch reruns of Carol Burnett than these so called reality shows or even the talent shows.
Listening to Eydie and Carol is absolute Gold! Two wonderful ladies with beautiful voices. I miss the 70's!
As good as television ever was and sadly isn't anymore. Thanks for posting.
