A complete collection of every fourth wall-breaking quip this mad cat ever utters, including the one they forgot to record the voice for. Well done, lads.
For further Oblivion fun, allow me to plug my Oblivion let's play, which sees me as a drunken lizardman in a mad world that wants me dead. Featuring hardcore mods like Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul.
I love how meta-gamey his comments are. "I have seen dragons. Perhaps you will see a dragon..."
Troy B. Almost all of them are. Destructive environments, Fast Travel, mounted combat, The removal of the levitate spell, map markers, the omission of crossbows, not being able to use staffs as physical, the physiology change between games for the kajit and argonians (legs).
A prophet of the times
M'aiq is the in-game voice of Bethesda themselves, as both a commendation of features they're proud of, and a way to eschew fan gripes.
@@zhiracs so your saying they think we are idiots.
That explains why they got away with 76.
@@xandan1668 Got away with 76??!! Are you kidding me??!! Everyone ripped them apart for 76!! If you mean there are those who still bought it, yeah, there always is. But if you think they got off scott free, I'd say you're mistaken.
So M'aiq is the developers' way of commenting on changes that have been made to the game?
+Ignore14 Màiq is a NPC that the creators put to talk about new games, old games and things the people use to say abour TES.
but did m'aiq say anything about TES 6?
Who knows. It is always very cryptic. Listen him un Skyrim and try to understand what means! But I think not
M'aiq is tired now. Go bother someone else.
"Who would want to see M'aiq naked? Sick, sick people. Very sad."
*looks at his fandom* ...Yep. Agreed.
FerreTrip looks at the furry fandom
Eeeeeeeeeexactly.
Rip of failure Nope. I've looked his name up on websites, and all I got were Khajiro/ Deerkethus ones.
That Hispanic Fur you poor soul
@@daniquothefbidude1945 LMAO
3:33 I guess you could say M'aiq was......
...Needed Elsweyr. YYYEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
JumperWC he shoots off like a god damn bullet i can never catch him when he takes off running no matter how much i try
adamrules01 i never see him move in skyrim, does he or does he teleport?
greg diamond
He possesses some teleportation and levitation skills yes, but i suppose the amount of time he has been alive he has had time to become a master mage, possibly the best in Skyrim!
He actually teleports to different places in the gameworld, and then walks around and then he teleports back to his own "house."
you can see his "house" if you are own pc and type in console "COC Elsweyr."
He actually has a very high movement speed in Oblivion. He just runs really fast. How to get his attention: Drop some calipers on the ground for him to pick up
"Who would want to see M'aiq Naked. Sick People, very sad"
M'aiq is aware of Rule 34...
We should be ashamed.
That's why I don't play Pokémon
Jon CreepSlayer
True. It's also in reference to the fact Argonians and Kajhit in Morrowind could be completely naked.
(It was not picked up by the ESRB because those races had no assets we could possibly find sexual back then and more closely resembled upright animals than humanoids.)
Bethesda normalized body types in Oblivion, however, which humanized the beast races and necessitated that they be clothed.
Some people were upset by the change, so Bethesda addresses them through M'aiq, who is essentially the devs' mouthpiece for addressing customer feedback, referencing previous games, and poking fun at their "competition".
Nathan Baker.
Never thought I would learn so much from a reply! Thanks for the information
It's probably a response to all the porn mods at the Nexus.
Doesn't it sound like something Donald Trump could say?
And yet, this game has "The Real Barenziah". Internet rule 34 is tame by comparison!
"People enjoy a good Fable, but M'aiq has yet to find one."
Aaaaaaw snap! Someone get Molyneux some ointment for that burn.
Ah but can you get laid in an Elder Scrolls game without downloading mods?
Aska2468 who the fuck wants to get laid on a game tho
U WOT There's a reason prostitution mods for Skyrim exist.
Aska2468 well yeah, so weirdos can jack off to it
U WOT That mod is maybe a bit too extreme compared to Fable. But either way it's just a feature, your character can get an STD, your wife/husband can get unhappy due to lack of sex, and you can have children in Fable 2 and 3, so I guess just fading to black and suddenly *boom* pregnancy, would've been disappointing for some.
Also, it's makes for a more believable married life when compared to Skyrim.
0:30 I get the reference. M'aiq wears a colovian fur helm in morrowind.
Dende The White Mage That banana hat.
And Colovia is a region in Cyrodiil.
"I have seen dragons. Perhaps you will see a dragon. I wont say where I saw one. Perhaps I did not."
Teasing for Skyrim?
Yup
You also see one when Martin Septim defeats Mehrunes Dagon. Although, even that could be a tease to Skyrim, since The Blades protect him as "Dragonborn", and that one girl in Riverwood tries to protect you
Well no it’s a reference to the end of the game where Martin turns into Akatosh I believe
Skyrim was a planned step in the lore for a long time, someone at the end of the game or a book says that they need to wait for the birth of the next Dragonbor, only problem is they had nothing planned after skyrim so they kept releasing it again and again
M'aiqs sayings may sound like random silliness but he's actually a developer easter egg. He comments on features from past Elder Scrolls games and even drops a few hints about future games. When he says something like, "Snow falls. Why worry where it goes?", this is Bethesda addressing gamer complaints about how snow still clips through the walls and roofs of outdoor buildings, stables, etc. (It looks like they're finally fixing this in Fallout 4).
He's been in every game since Morrowind, at least. I wonder if his name is based on someone at Bethesda named, "Mike." :)
1:14 _"People always enjoy a good fable. M'aiq has yet to find one. Perhaps one day."_
from wikipedia: Fable (1996) video game: Reception of the game was mixed. GameSpot called the game 'an earnest but uneven effort', praising the graphics and voice acting but criticising the design, convoluted story and unsatisfying ending.[1]
1:56 _"So much easier to get around these days. Not like the old days. Too much walking. Of course, nothing stops M'aiq from walking when he wants."_
The ability to Fast Travel was first added in Oblivion. :)
Catzilla....appertly in skyrim he says "people in skyrim look better than people in cyodiil".....saying the grapics are better.....also is the dragon dialog wear get says I've seen dragon maybe you will someday too i won't tell you where though.....is this a reference to skyrim going to have dragons?....
Considering all the gods are named after developers, founders, and the orignal testers... Does that mean M'aiq is a god?!
@@KneelB4Bacon It's a reference to the 2004 game, not the 1996 game.
M'aiq runs too fast for me. Can't catch up.
part cheetah?
Well he is a cat
M'aiq runs back and forth along the road from Anvil to Leyawiin. You can sometimes find standing right outside the gates of either town. He also likes calipers and will pick them up if you drop any near him.
Catzilla Robert Ivey knows
His speed is unbeatable in the game, I boost my speed up to 140 and just barely touch his tail, but he still outrun me after a while.
"So much easier to get around these days. Not like the old days. Too much walking" indirect reference to Morrowind not having fast travel? Perhaps, perhaps not
EVERYTHING he says is a reference to Morrowind, actually.
He references ideas that fans of the game are very vocal about, that beth either chose to include or drop from the game.
@@msladjan100 What about the dragons
@@poland8752 they were in morrowind, just invisible, and very very quiet
After playing Oblivion or Skyrim for hours, days, months even, and suddenly encounter this guys was like... I dont know. Just it maked me happy, or smile. One of the best characters in videogames ever.
Most of Mai'q's comments are developers addressing some of the things the community was asking for, Destructible buildings, throwing weapons, nude mods, fast-travelling and before Skyrim was even proposed, Dragons!... Kind of awesome Easter egg that I passed by all the time not giving a second thought
1:02 SKYRIM CONFIRMED.
Aenygma nah, it's spoiler for the ending of oblivion in fact
Dragons have existed before Skyrim and throughout the events of Elder Scrolls. Paarthurnax from Throat Of The World, Vulthuryol from Blackreach and Nafaalilargus, Tiber Septim's personal dragon and other dragons protected by various kings, just to name a few.
Cyrodiil was supposed to have dragons in the pre-Oblivon lore. They were dropped during development.
he says in skyrim that dragons have always existed they were just invisible and very quiet, maybe in reference to there spirits?
turns out he wasnt lying after all
M'aiq actually just seems like a really nice guy
We must find the voice actor and get him to do ESO!!!
He’s retired
Rare ESO comment from before he blew up!
He is in ESO
Can we be friends eso ?
He's Jonathan Bryce
3:40 there goes the most magestic fucking cat ever
Hah
"Perhaps you will see a dragon" he he he, I wonder where.
M'aiq dissing Fable this hard got Peter Molyneux on suicide watch daymn
I like both games but thought that ws funny
I love how maiq is the developers' way of communicating with the fans, it's kinda nice for some reason
Holy shit, this guy is like Bethesda's messenger. He's responding to fan requests.
M'aiq is in Skyrim. It's been confirmed. A reviewer found him wondering around the north-east portion of the map. The only thing he managed to get out of him was:
“What does it mean to combine magic? Magic plus magic is still magic. M’aiq once tried to use two fire spells and burned his sweet roll!”
You can read the full review at Ripten.
0:10 M'aiq predict the major problem in some skyrim companions
This one was happy to see M'aiq in ESO today.
M'aiq is immortal and all knowing, but plays the part of the fool due to the ignorance of those around him.
A true force of nature.
I am so used to the softer more friendlier voice of m'aiq in Skyrim, it scared me at the start with his rough crusty voice...
Crysis graphics right here!
Fuck graphics it has better gameplay than crysis.
BakuTex
I agree graphics aren't everything, but Crysis and Oblivion are rather hard to compare gameplay-wise.
Only stupid people judge a game by it's graphics.
It does not matter if a game has the best graphics ever, if the gameplay is shit the game is shit too.
you do realise this game is almost 10 years old.....
1:20. Bethesda knew EXACTLY what they were doing.
Magikarp Fable 1 was amazing tho
I so miss this voice actor.
raulprima Me too along with the female they were perfect for their roles. Redguards and all the others were epic too. I mean Wonder Woman voiced the Nord Females that is epic. I just wish the Orcs had the same voices as in Morrowind.
Wes Johnson
Wes Johnson voiced the Imperials. Lol
Wonder Woman's voice actress is in Skyrim too, voicing Gormaith Golden-Hilt.
M'aiq isn't a fan of Fable then :)
Theory: M'iaq is a time traveler! It would explain how he saw dragons, because he time traveled to Skyrim to see them!
+Mikayla The Boss Or, all M'aiq descend from one another.
Or maybe he can see the future
I like how Bethesda cracks on the Furry lunatics. As they should.
Rochester Swift actually he is actually referring to how in the first two elder scrolls games if you took the armor off your character, they would be completley nude.
"People enjoy a good fable. M'aiq has yet to find one, though. Perhaps one day."
That awkward moment when you realize that Fable and The Elder Scrolls are now owned by the same company. Thanks, Microsoft.
Some people want special bows that take to long to load and need special arrows called bolts
Crossbow reference
In oblivion
M'aiq makes me Happy, I don't even know why XD
+Remove Cheeseburger!!! Ommmmmg yees peeerfect! 😂😂 M'aiq approves
***** 😂 **Goes off and bothers Jauffre**
I think its the accent that makes them likeable, same goes for J'zargo.
1:02 He was hinting at skyrim all along....
I found a Dragon in Daggerfall ones, There practically invincible tho...
Father Karras Yup, and then we got the shittiest kind of dragons possible. Easily killable with your god-tier "plot revolves around me" character until dragons are just laughable annoyances you can scream at a few times to kill.
Only Bethesda would make an npc that is only there for them to go "yeah, we don't have (feature) in the game, cry about it"
AHA! Mai'q predicted the coming of the dragons in the next Elder Scrolls (part V), so maybe he also predicts something that will happen in TES VI? I'm off to find him and listen to what he has to say :)
He was actually talking about Martin Septim.
Actually I think it might have been implied that the game developers had originally intended to add dragons to Oblivion and later decided to not include them. I don't know for sure but I'm just saying that's what I think.
***** Actually because M'aiq was also in skyrim Mariano97 may have been correct and this may have been a prediction as he says we won't tell where he's seen these dragons maybe implying he'd seen it in skyrim
***** or Hammerfell! exciting
*****
I hope it's Elsweyr.
1:44 you know what, that actually makes sense and these line are more likely what a wise man would say.M'aiq the Liar is funny yet mystic.
1:22 The first Fable was FUCKING GOOD.
It was good, but it wasn't the Morrowind Killer everyone said it would be, that's what the joke was. I wonder what M'aiq thinks of the later ones. Ahaha
Chris Mahoney Man, when I see people giving up praise to the new installments on the Fable series and to Fable 2 and 3 my blood boils, killing thoughts come to my mind, I grab my "List of people I need to kill" and write their names, I track their IP and I prepare my knife.
I cannot understand how anyone could have enjoyed those shits.
Akriloth. A cool dragon from your childhood (maybe). I enjoyed Fable 2, but I agree that Fable 3 was 100% SHIT.
NurusTheSquid I enjoyed Fable 3.
Opinions. People have them.
Now stop talking about them and go do something productive.
Weaponsomasscreation My opinion was that Fable 3 wasn't good. Your opinion was that it was good. So why tell me about talking about opinions when you yourself are doing the same?
As a person who only got into TES starting with Skyrim, I say about that line: freakin AWESOME foreshadowing.
2:59
Sick, SICK people! Very sad...
...LOL
Take care. **zoom**
maiq is done talking
go bother somebody else
I've got over 100 hours in oblivion and have travelled all over the map but I've still never encountered this guy!
Leyawiin front gate.
I did "talk" to him a few times
He is at the anvil stables
@@CaptainHieronymusLex Thank you, I was informed a few days after my initial comment. I just remember being confused I couldn't find him since I was used to him randomly appearing in different places across Skyrim.
@@LucaDolanRuiz lmao I did not realize the comment was 7 years ago 😂😂😂 thanks for answering anyways
M'aiq wishes you well.
***** M'aiq is glad you like it.
M'iaq: "I have seen dragons. Perhaps you will see a dragon. I won't say where I saw one. Perhaps I did not." epic foreshadowing.
Yeah the voices of the daedra were pretty awesome in Oblivion and skyrim. And Lechance sounded pretty unique, too.
M'aiq enjoys talking of himself in the third person. Very interesting story, M'aiq has. When M'aiq is traveling, M'aiq narrates his own life to repel boredom.
When he said somethin about bolts and bows that take a long time to load he meant a crossbow. Then they put it on dawnguard in skyrim.
Crossbows are in Morrowind too x3
Crossbows are still weak, and stupid though.
Even at 100 Athletics, I've never been able to keep up with M'aiq for long.
I swear he's constantly on a skooma high.
The good fable joke. Ha!
You just gotta admire how fast after "Take care." he books it right the fuck outta' there.
I wonder what the guy behind this voice looks like hahahah!
a cat obviously
He is also in Morrowind. He sits on an Island and is fishing.
He also has a stylish colovian fur helmet and fancy clothing. :3
Also.. The M'aiq in Skyrim says that his father also was named M'aiq and so was his father. So either it's a family thingy.. or he is immortal.
hmm he seems like a mad god i know.
I wonder if there's a connection.
Neelmay13
dunno?
Wow these textures are ... out of this world!
Kids, this is what too much skooma does to you.
he's an easter egg, fun guy, and just a long time stapple in the series
3:00 that one was for Rule 34 artists.
Now that i think about it, m'aiq has lived for too long, more than 400 years and he doesn't look like a vampire.
The voice actor here for Maiq was waaay better than the one in Skyrim.
oh I love that character, was so happy to met him in Skyrim !
how old is Miaq. I saw him in Oblivion and Skyrim
M'aiq had a son, called M'aiq, the son had another son, also called M'aiq, the another son had one more.....M'aiq and so on...... and on..... and on..... and on
"M'aiq had a father who was also named M'aiq. As did M'aiq's father's father. Or at least that's what his father told him."
RandomGuy1994 That`s what i said. -__-
dekaron12 See, what you did was explain M'aiq's family tree. What I did was simply quote M'aiq himself, hence the quotation marks.
RandomGuy1994 That quotation also explains maiq`s family tree......
M'aiq the Legend
Seeing as how half of these were in Skyrim, it's safe to say that Bethesda just didn't know how to put the ideas in at the time.
There are so many allusions and references he says about future games [Skyrim]: Children in-game, fighting on horseback, the new crossbow, dragons etc.
he was much better in oblivion
Just so you next gen followers and TES noobs know, THERE IS NO F*&@ing references to future games ex:skyrim. These are references to requests and suggestions, skyrim just happened to include these in the next gen
-TES leet knowledge
Exactly.
wrong, in Morrowind, in Muornhold there is a quest where you have to put down a daedra cult inside the city, when you confront the leader he says that he has visions and that oblivion gates will open in the imperial city very soon. It may or it may not be a reference, but i think Bethesda is way ahead where the next game will be and what the main theme is going to be.
This man has been alive for 200 years
42 people are liars
Mai'q should run the marathon o_o
+BrazilianNut M'aiq did..well tried..but he was outrunned by redguards..
Adrenaline rush is no joke
To call most of these snide little remarks "in poor taste" would be an understatement.
Hands are sometimes for clopping.
Only hooves can clop.
Unless, you're being gross.
Please don't be gross here.
Please?
M’aiq does not understand what is so impressive about shouting. M’aiq can shout whenever he wants.
"People always enjoy a good fable. I haven't found one yet though."
Bethesda roast
M'aiq says he was soul trapped, so he probably got put in a soul gem, left for 200 years, and found by some amateur who set him free.
There were forshadowing in the dialogs for dragons and werewolves. Both are in skyrim. the only dragon in OBlivion is Martain as he turns into a statue at the end of the main story/quest. I love werewolves and dragons. playing oblivion was great fun. i want to come back to that game and skyrim at a latter date. love
"So much easier to get around these days. Noy like the old days. Too much walking"
Is he talking about the fast travel? O.o
Yes
And the fact that horses are a thing again, like they were in Daggerfall.
M'aiq guesses it comes down to a simple choice, really: Get busy talking, or get busy running.
M'aiq has always been used as a way for the game developers to talk to the player in-game. Here's a list of quotes with explanations for those who might not get all of his references:
elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/M%27aiq_the_Liar/Quotes
Imagine if M'aiq the Liar were in Arena or Daggerfall.
ARENA QUOTES
"At the rate you're going, M'aiq thinks it will take ten years to finish what you need to get done."
-The events of Arena span the course of ten years, canonically speaking. Unlike in Morrowind through Skyrim, the events of which happen over the course of a year in canon.
"Passwall is a useful spell for adventurers that go into dungeons. It would be a shame if everyone in Tamriel were to suddenly forget how to use it."
-The Passwall spell has so far only appeared in Arena, and according to an in-game book, the spell has been completely forgotten after the events of Arena.
"M'aiq does a lot of traveling. The world seems so much bigger when you're expected to go everywhere at once."
-No space compression in Arena, so the game's world is exactly as huge as it should be, if not bigger if you take the infinite, randomly generated wilderness into account.
"The tavern folk around here are so hostile. M'aiq can't even take a moment to write in his journal."
Arena has restrictions on where you can save the game, including taverns. Also, the patrons in the taverns are very rude to the player.
"It is so cold during the winter. M'aiq wishes he had a thicker coat of fur."
-Arena (and Daggerfall) actually have snow during the winter months. Also, the Khajiit in those games don't have fur like their counterparts in the later games.
"They say something strange happens to Argonians that spend too much time in their homeland."
-The Argonian race look significantly different in Arena than in later games. According to in-universe lore, an Argonian's appearance is determined by how much Hist sap they lick when they are young.
"There is talk about war in other places. But it doesn't affect M'aiq, so M'aiq doesn't care…too much."
-There are references to city-states spying or declaring war on each other, and later Elder Scrolls games explain that a number of military conflicts between provinces happened during the events of Arena. However, most of this is just wild talk in-game, and you don't actually see any of it happen.
"M'aiq is trying to bet money at the Arena, but he cannot find it anywhere."
-There are no arenas in Arena. The game was originally going to be about a team of gladiators traveling to different cities to compete in their arenas, but the game was changed into a CRPG in mid-development.
"M'aiq once got in trouble with the town guards. Thankfully, the guards are idiots, so it was easy to escape them."
-The guards in Arena are very inept compared to their counterparts in later games. They never patrol the streets or assist you when you're attacked by enemies, and they never try to arrest you when you commit a crime, only attack you on sight. But they're easy to avoid, since you only need to run into or out of a building to escape them.
DAGGERFALL QUOTES
"M'aiq loves to read a good book when he is not traveling abroad. There are so many to choose from nowadays."
-Daggerfall was the first game in the series to feature readable books.
"Good thing we have horses. It gets tiring to run everywhere. Of course, M'aiq still prefers running, so he can get his exercise."
-Daggerfall introduced the ability to purchase and ride horses, and was also the first game to have skills that could be improved from continued usage.
"The taverns here in the Iliac Bay are very comfy and full of pleasant enough folk. Much better than some inns I've visited a few years ago."
-The people in the taverns are much nicer than their Arena counterparts.
"So much to see, so much to do, so much to buy. M'aiq loves the Iliac Bay!"
-There are more things to do in Daggerfall than in Arena, including more types of shops where you can buy/sell items.
"The guards around here seem much more reasonable than the guards in other parts of Tamriel."
-The guards in Daggerfall can be surrendered to, unlike the guards in Arena, which show no mercy whatsoever.
"M'aiq is between jobs right now. Maybe you can find a job, too."
There are joinable factions in Daggerfall, where you can get work from.
"Wharf Rats? Never heard of them."
-The Wharf Rats are the only major faction in Arena that didn't return in Daggerfall (or other TES games, for that matter).
"Have you heard that the Orcs want to become citizens of the Empire? Good thing M'aiq has been brushing up on his Orcish."
-The Orcs are striving to be recognized as legitimate citizens of the Empire. There are also languages that can be learned in Daggerfall, with one of them being Orcish.
m'aiq is an easter egg added in all the games up from morrowind and talks about things Bethesda wanted to add into the game but didn't. so he tells about them so people can see what they missed out on.
XD M'aiq athletics is beyond comprehension.
No matter how many times I saw M'aiq in Oblivion, I always got a little giddy.
The Deadpool of the Elder Scrolls Universe
The Khajiits in Oblivion were so much cuter than in Skyrim
"M'aiq believes the children are our future, but we have no future, as there are no children in Tamriel"
The not so subtle jab at furries is amazing.
Morrowind m’aiq: funny and a joke
Oblivion m’aiq: neutral
Skyrim m’aiq: wholesome
I found my hat next to some Icarus Scrolls.
Maiq knows much, but Maiq has never encountered this civilization phenomena.
People always enjoy a good fable. M'aiq has yet to find one, though.
OHHHHHHHHHH
DAMN, PETER, THEY REALLY BURNED YOUR ASS ON THAT ONE
@1:02 I never thought he "predicted" Skyrim, I figured he was talking about what he said in Morrowind. He said that he has seen dragons in the sky, but they're really high in the sky and are hard to see because they're invisible.
The Dragon line wasn't a teaser for Skyrim methinks, but a little nod to what happens to Martin at the end of Oblivion's main quest.
very wise words of wisdom from the long line of M"aiq the liars the best adventurer of Tamerial
0:40 You could just go to Morrowind and get one aha.
0:52 Because you can't understand oral instructions to find places?
1:54 Let's forget all the times you had to go to certain Telvanni wizards and the fact that it's the best way to get around Red Mountain.
2:25 Uhh, because staves WEIGH less and you can ATTACK faster? Plus you have REACH with staves.
2:32 Yes, you can. You can enchant them that way.
2:45 Until TES V anyway.
2:50 Not when POISON or MAGIC does MOST of the damage.
3:10 Who would you want to see without clothes on, M'aiq?
3:24 Until the next Bloodmoon!
M'aiq - so practical, and yet so stylish. It must be the future! Let's just hope it doesn't ruin all of our fun.
And a cameo in Skyrim would be beyond awesome :3
2:15 mai'q predicted crossbows
«I have seen dragons. Perhaps you will see a dragon.»
Damn you, Bethesda.
"People always enjoy a good fable. M'aiq has yet to find one, though. Perhaps, one day."
Reference to how bad the last Fable games have been?
