- Making a downpipe plinth to lift the polycarbonate pond covers away from the water. (shamelessly copied from Andy Daley @ Koi diaries 😁)
And adding pipe insulation inside to help retain heat and reduce condensation.
Parts listed here:
65mm squareline guttering down pipe.

Amazing pond and garden
Thanks, 🙂
Hi Dave. Don't you get any problems with the wind then?
Not really, the covers are locked down with special hinged brackets I made that are attached to the pergola posts.
Stood up fine to the gales we had last year. I just moved them up after I fitted the new raised plinth. 🙂
Thank you Dave.
@@shaunleonard8146 No worries mate, 🙂
I'll add them to the next video I do.
They are nothing spectacular but allow me to remove and replace the covers very quickly, in about 90 seconds. 👌
As I like to take the covers off any day that's warm enough, so I can enjoy the pond and let the fish out to play 😄
Thank you Dave, that would be great. Very helpful.
@@shaunleonard8146 Hi Shaun, I showed the hinged polycarbonate cover brackets in this video at 5:40 in 👍

Big mistake cutting plastic pipe right by the pond, all those nasty sharp bits of plastic for your Koi to snack on!
I was careful not to let any swarf go in the pond 👍
Good tip with the pipe insulation, another one of your ideas I will be copying 😂 👍.
Originally I wanted to enclose the whole pond and pergola.
And make a closed in veranda to join onto the pergola with polycarbonate this year, but the price is now prohibitive.
But I thought the hollow down pipe would be a bit of a thermal bridge in really cold weather,
and it's only a few quid for the insulation so thought why not? 😄
