      Thanks, 👍
The Shiro is top dog in the pond, 😊
Funnily enough I was just looking at the sanke and it's starting to grow on me now,
Though at the time I wasn't that keen after I had got her home.

They got nuts when you squeeze a bit of the juice into the water, just looking for it 😄

@@DavesKoiPond what I do is chop them in small cubes, they sink, it gives them something to root around for, as all other food I use is floating.

Love to talk about thiosulphate and UV-C

    • @DavesKoiPond
      @DavesKoiPond  ปีที่แล้ว

What specifically about Thiosulfate and UV-C?
UVC can break Thiosulfate down, but most research is done with very low volumes of water so a pond would need massive quantities of light.
But as it virtually instantly reacts with chlorine, and is diluted in the volume of the pond the laws of dilution apply.
plus it is only really fully active for a day or two and is dependant on pH for active level.

@@DavesKoiPond I have 52ppb from big blues of copper, from recycled RO 17ppb, but the pond was reading 100ppb.
Dosed with sodium thiosulphate, reading for copper was zero 24 hrs later back up at 218ppb!!!!!
Struggling to understand where the copper is coming from, read UV-C can be used to reclaim silver and copper from thiosulphate.
Only other possibilities are the fish food Saki Hikari, checked the ASHP and the exchanger is titanium and plastic pipes no copper only for refrigerant.
So very interested in your videos, really good thanks

@@garychallinor6404 Sodium Thiosulfate doesn't remove copper, it binds it in a sulfate form Cu2S2O3
and is not the best metal chleating ingredient in dechlorinators for metal detoxification, EDTA tetrasodium salt is.
I would call Hanna Instuments, but the checker may well be reading your total copper level, including copper sulfate bound up by Sodium Thiosulfate.
Or the Sodium Thiosulfate could be interfering with the copper checker test, in the same way that formalin interfers with the hanna ammonia checker test.
How are the fish reacting? as I would imagine 218ppb of ionic copper would be a lethal level.

@@DavesKoiPond fish are good, few knocks and the odd flashing, but good for this time of year.
Really wish I’d done chemistry at school 😂
I am dosing API same dilution as you but 12 doses of 30ml to try and solve.
The Hanna tester is measuring Cu2+??
I will call them and find out thanks, definitely a big learning curve 🤪
