    Do you know what your dog does if left home by themselves? We have secrets on what happens when Yeti is left by himself.

    I think when you said letting them get enough exercise was absolutely the key. With our German Shepherds we use to do 4 miles a day...2 mile morning jog and a 2 mile walk at night. They are much more controlled and calm when they get their exercise.

      Working dogs do love their exercise and need it. Without, they are super hyper. Thanks for stopping by and commenting, A Retarded Orange Ape In The White House.

    I've been watching so many of your videos to prepare myself for my Samoyed. It's going to be a long wait, so I want as much knowledge as possible. Thanks so much for taking the time to make these truthful videos about what these dogs are really like. I'm excited and nervous. It's like I'm expecting a baby!

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can completely understand your nerves. All Sammies have completely different personalities from one another and respond differently to commands, words, etc. I had thought Yeti would be very similar to my first Sam. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Both are/were wonderful dogs. Chewy would talk, much like a person and he would head toward exactly what he wanted. Yeti barks the same tone and leads you to within the room of what he wants. While Yeti herds, he’ll stop and wander behind me, while barking, seeming to go in the opposite direction of what he wants.
      It is very similar to expecting a baby.

    My dog used to chew things up when we were gone. I had to hide the shoes.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You got really good about hiding your shoes, socks too. Behind a door that clicks closed. That’s what I do too.
      My husband leaves his stuff laying around the house. When we’re gone, Yeti likes to grab his shoes and socks, eat and swallow them, to remind him of us. My husband wonders why Yeti only eats his stuff.

      So excited that you’ll be getting a new Samoyed! They are such beautiful, wonderfully friendly, happy dogs. Be patient with them, give them plenty of walks, playtime and always keep them active. If they’re bored, they’ll be naughty, especially between 4 months to 2 years of age. They’re working dogs, which is why they need a lot of exercise, playtime, mental activity. Playtime must involve you. All the Sammies I’ve known, always need you to play. They don’t play by themselves. Hold their toys, throw them, play keep away, hide and seek, etc. with them. For sled pulling and agility, please wait until they’re 2 years old before doing those things. Their bones are still growing and developing until 2 years old.

    I absolutely love your videos! They are so informative and give me reliable information about the Samoyed breed! I found your channel when I was researching on the breed, for I am considering getting a cloud ☁️ of my own. I have a question about the breed though: “Would you recommend a Samoyed for an active family, where all the family members are gone for 8 hours on weekdays?” I wanted your advice because I wanted to make an educated decision. 😁 (P.S. Your videos make my day so much better. 😊)

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Awwww! Thank you so much, Super Sparkle, for your heartfelt comment. My husband and I, have owned 2 Sammies. Chewy was our first, Yeti is our second. The breed has been in my family, for decades. Chewy (who had passed away a year and a half before we got Yeti), was at home for 8 hours daily, during the week, and did fine. Chewy was incredibly gentle with my Grandma and all the very tiny children in my family (nieces and nephews). He was so gentle with all of them and adored everyone.
      I recommend walking a half hour in the morning and a half hour at nighttime, to help use up some excess energy, which they have plenty of. If you have a Sammy puppy, put them in a crate during the day to prevent accidents and destruction. I would crate train until they reach about age 2. The reason...Samoyeds are easily bored and when they get bored, they become destructive by eating your house.
      Sammies LOVE and adore children. They’re such a gentle breed with kids. They know children are small and delicate and they treat them gently. They love the playtime children give them. They don’t snarl and never bite, unless you’re attacked by a bad person.
      Sammies are indoor dogs, who love to be with their people at all times. They bark all the time, but it’s to let you know they have to go outside, want to play cuddle, get treats, get more treats. Never bark for bad reasons. I think once, Yeti got mad and barked a mean bark. If say a plumber, electrician, heating/cooling person, etc., comes to your house, your Sam will want nothing more than to play with them, stealing their tools for playtime.
      A Samoyed is a great dog, who will give you so much love and attention. They’re working dogs, so you must play with them a lot and walk them a lot.
      Thank you so much for your wonderful comment, watching our video and for the great question. Thank you for taking the time to read my comment back!

    My husband is allergic to dogs’ fur and I have found that Samoyeds do not cause allergies. Could you please confirm if it’s true? I always had German Shepherds and now once we cannot get one due to his allergies, we were thinking about Samoyed. Next year, we’re gonna move to the big house with the backyard and as you have a lot of experience in this matter, I would be grateful for your help. I really enjoy your videos. Yeti is adorable. :)

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Michalina, thank you for Yeti’s compliment. Sammies don’t have oil in their coats, so if he’s only allergic to dogs, he might be okay. If there are any other allergens, like pollen, ragweed, etc., all of those things get stuck in a Sam’s thick fur. That can cause allergies to act up. Reach out to a Samoyed breeder and ask if you guys can visit. They have more than one Samoyed for you to interact with. You’d have more ideas on if he’ll have reactions or not. Ask the breeder not to groom their dogs before you see them, for a good perception. Best wishes!

    "Crunch crunch". I'm going to guess he goes crazy when you use the word "food".
    When I leave to go somewhere, my dog will lay her chin on a window right next to the door and stare out at me, unmoving and unblinking. When I leave her field of view, she then starts barking up a storm.
    When any of my family gets back she jumps excitedly at us while whining a bunch and then proceeds to bark and howl as if to say "Where did you go!? Why did you go without me!?"

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We’ve always said ‘crunch crunch’ because it’s the way it sounds. Solid dog food kibble makes that cute crunching noise in their mouths and the kibble pinging against the metal bowl. If we say ‘food,’ Yeti has no idea what we’re talking about. His treats are ‘treats’. I love hearing others’ stories about their Sams. We have a wonderful community of dog owners. Makes Yeti and I happy. Thanks for contributing!

    Such a cute samoyed:)
    I want to have a samoyed myself but I dont know if I can take care of them in my garden not letting them in home, so do you think is it possible to have samoyed somewhere like a garden or they are too emotional and attached to owners they have to be close otherwise they ll feel bad?
    I really need a detailed answer please:)

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thank you for the compliment on Yeti. Samoyeds are inside dogs, always seeking attention from their owners, desiring constant attention. They need to be inside with their owners, otherwise, they become destructive. They will dig massive, giant holes in your yard and bark constantly, wanting to come inside to hang out with their people.
      If you’re looking for an outside dog, a Samoyed would not be a good fit. They’ve been dogs who need to live inside with their people, since their beginnings in Siberia. If left outside, they become bored and extremely talkative. A bored Samoyed, is a destructive Samoyed. It’s part of their personality. You can’t train a Sammy to live outside.
      A Samoyed would not be a good fit for you. They’re not good dogs for a lot of people. They need a lot of activity and attention.

      They can be, once they’re adults and have been fully potty trained. I would still use a crate, because when they get bored, they’ll eat your house. Crates keep them safe too.

    • @YetisPlace

      Yeti gets TONS of daily exercise. He goes on 3-4 over half hour walks daily, walking around 3-5 miles a day. Gets plenty of playtime, plenty of quick sprints chasing balls. All of my other videos talk about the amount of exercise they need and should get, to give them the amount of activity the breed needs.

We can come home at lunch for a quick walk, but I worry it isn’t enough. 8:30-12:00 and then 12:30-3:30 seems like a super long time. Also, does this breed need a fenced yard?

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Jennifer! Thank you for loving our channel. That really means a lot to Yeti and I. If you crate train your puppy, you can safely leave the pup home alone, for those few hours at a time. Yeti is walked over lunch and so are his buddies, Quimby and Bigby. They were all crate trained when they were puppies. I would encourage a fenced yard, because your puppy can run off some energy. If they see a squirrel, your dog would be safe and won’t run away.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They’re not guard dogs. Just about the only time they don’t bark, is when someone walks in the door. Once they see that person and see there’s someone to play with them, they don’t stop barking. They shed a lot and are talkative, active dogs, who need a lot of exercise and are super friendly, happy dogs. If you live in an apartment complex, talk to your landlord to see if they’d be ok to own. They’re noisy large dogs.
      Not guard dogs. If a stranger stopped by, they’d think, oh boy, someone new to play with me!

      No, but they still need supervision when first around children. Kids can be rough.
      My first Samoyed, Chewy, was very gentle with my very young nieces and nephews. They played rough with him, but he was so sweet and gentle. He knew they little and more frail. Just like how he knew my Grandma was older and more frail. Chewy was very kind and never hurt them.
      Quimby and Bigby, Yeti’s buddies (also Sammies), are very gentle around kids too. It’s in their nature to be kind. In Siberia, where the breed originated, they would sleep inside with their owners, cuddling next to them at night, to keep their owners warm. They were and still are, full family members.
      Yeti is also sweet. He adores my youngest niece and likes pulling her on a dogsled.

    Heya, just wondering what you would recommend in terms of my lifestyle and my upcoming samoyed: I own a clothing business, and can take my pup to work (I have a back work-room) from day 1, but not sure how that would impact its training, going through two different environments. There's atleast two of us at the store every day, so at 95% of the time someone can attend to my samoyed, and we are liberal with breaks and what not, so we have time to train and give attention... Or is it better to just take out two three days somehow, and then start doing the office in the day, home at night?

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sammies love being wherever their people are, so your pup would love it., Devrath. Yeti goes with his Dad to work and stays at a house near his Dad’s work. His Dad goes over to that house during lunch and walks him and plays.
      Just be sure to walk and play a lot, otherwise they get bored and would be destructive. They do like to talk....a lot. They’re quite demanding and don’t listen well when you say no.

      Don’t leave food/water in the crate with him, until he’s older. 8 hours is a really long time for a young puppy to left alone, without being able to go potty. If you leave food/water in his crate, he’ll have to go potty faster. I would wait a few months until I leave food/water in there.
      It’s really helpful you’ll be walking him, but he’ll also need to be let outside halfway through his day, until he’s a few months old. Is there anyone who can help you bring him outside?
      Thank you, Jay Boy, for enjoying our channel.

      Hard to say if he’d break out of your crate. Most of the time, they do fine and stay put. Bigby, one of Yeti’s buddies, was a stinker and figured out how to break free of the crate. The crate was pretty much destroyed. He didn’t want to be put in the crate.

      Not too frequently. Most of the time, he goes to work with his Dad. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      WOW! Thank you, Natasya, for saying that! That is quite the compliment. I do like her. I can assure you however, I cannot sing like she can. Thank you so much for watching, commenting and for the great compliment!
