It's a battle between the two hottest tablets on the market with the Asus Transformer Prime and Apple's iPad 2. Will the best Android tablet on the market finally have what it takes to be named king of the Prizefight ring? - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี
@painkillaz i own a prime. could you tell me how to use windows on it?
Anyone know what the movie on the iPad was at 4:42?
How did they tie in cameras?
wait which tf is this? is this the tf700 or the tf200?
Features 2:
Dock:
The dock not only makes the tablet more of a netbook, but also increases the battery life of the tablet by up to 70%.
The docks also comes with 1 USB to add a game controller, a USB hub, an external harddrive and many other things.
It also come with an SD card slot. This can give you the option of adding more memory if you need more than 64 GB.
With the dock, the tablet is still thinner than most netbooks.
Where can I get an unbiased comparison about these two tablets? Where they actually show what each can do side by side?
The like/dislike bars paint the picture perfectly. How could so many people be wrong???
Features:
The Prime has a micro HDMI adapter , which can be used to plug into your TV. An HDMI cable can be purchased as low as $5 on Amazon.
The is a microSD card slot, which could be used to expand the tablet's storage. It is capable of handling another 32 GB for the price of $30. In other words. You can get the standard 32 GB tablet for $500 and add another $32 GB of storage for $30 = $530 for 64GB.
How much money did they receive from apple?
@Craiguccini Finally - Sorry if I'm mistaken but the Asus Prime supports flash? I'm looking at the specifications now and I am reading "with Adobe® Flash® support". Yes I agree the iOS is VERY intuitive, but it is VERY limited. Android 4.0 is also intuitive but it also offers a ton load more features. You say a 2 year old can use the iPad easily, but a 2 year old can use the Transformer just as easily? You swipe to change home screens, tap to open an app, pinch to zoom on both tablets
Features 3:
The Prime's BT has the capability of adding an external keyboard and mouse. For those who do not want to shell $150 for the dock, there are options out there that are cheaper, but do not take full advantage of the Asus Prime dock.
The screen:
It has a better and higher resolution than the Apple's iPad2. It has an ISP+ setting, which can be used outside to make the screen visible under direct sunlight.
And you release this video 2 weeks before the iPad 3 is announced?? Great job cocking that one up.
I like how this video came out less than a month before the 3rd generation iPad is released... With a screen that kicks any other screens ass and has a better camera too.
I can't believe they actually gave user interface to ipad 2. They called it "simpler" when they really mean "dumbed down." They should have two scores: one for the power user and one for the average consumer who believes the prime is a type of ipad.
I have the original Transformer and it has held my life together for the best part of a year on my jaunt around Europe, without fuss, Max entertainment, great power efficiency and in style...
Suspicious... Brian Tong said for one round that it was 3.7 for the iPad, when the on screen graphic said it was 4.3. If it was 3.7 then the iPad would have lost. Maybe they realized that and decided to manipulate the results so that the iPad wins. Or maybe it is just a painfully unlikely coincidence.
I bought an Asus Transformer Prime. The LCD broke when I put the GPS dongle into it (not an easy fit). After a month of support tickets, and absolutely ridiculous responses to my questions, I'm nowhere closer to resolving the issue. They just want me to stop contacting them, and pay $400 to replace the LCD as well as the glass front (which isn't broken), and have stated that when I get it back, the repair process will have damaged the case severely.
Sometimes I curl up in a corner and pretend I am a potato
I also like how the iPad has been around longer than the Transformer Prime, yet the Packaging is completely similar to the packaging of Apple Products, and they both have Smart Cases, which was first introduced by Apple. I think the Transformer Prime has potential but I'm extremely disappointed at how companies are making their products to only be comparable to the iPad not better. Whenever tablets arrive, the biggest question is, how does it compare to the iPad?
Idk what they're talking about, the android marketplace has all the apps that the app store has and even offers more with the launcher themes
"We thought of extremely elaborate, flimsy excuses for the iPad 2 to take this round, and we hope our readers don't notice all the iPad 3 rumours we've been slinging, so we'll let Apple take this round too, for some reason!"
come on guys!! it's CNET!!! I already knew who wins the match before I watch this video LOL
Came here indecisively, keen to find out how Asus Transformer Prime fare against others (including iPad). Now I'm so convinced Asus gives more bang for my money, at least when comparing to iPad.
Its not cNet, its Brian Tong. If you look at other editors, some are not biased at all.
How the hell did the transomer prime lose on performance when it has a quad core and tegra 3 inside it???!
@johnmatthewfelix
weird... after the update mine supports by default...
just open it and get flash apps up and running. ( I already had flashplayer tho)
Hardware:
The tegra 3 has 5 cores.
4 cores working when power needed and 1 core running for power efficiency when just browsing or reading.
It has a better camera that can shoot at 8 Megapixels. It also has a 2 megapixel camera in the front for video chat. Which is also better than the apple camera.
but the transformer prime has to get the edge with it's wider screen and higher resolution with 1080p play back.
WE ARE CALLING THIS ROUND A DRAW!
He was wrong when he said the prime doesn't support flash....it does, you can play flash games in the browser on that tablet.
im confused in one round they say the prime has a better camera, better screen and better browser but it still ties the round with the iPad 2.
whoa whoa whoa!! you mean to tell me an ipad not being widescreen is a positive over the prime!!?? come on !!
I know so done who hated apple so much he went and bought an iPad. From that day on, I've never seen him ever touch his laptop or desktop. He's fallen in love with it
Wait a second... In the features second, Brian said the Asus gets a 4.7 while the iPad a 3.7....only problem the graphic said it was 4.3.... Again WHAT IS THIS MADDNESS. and despite all the comments and dislikes, no reply from Cnet...
You ignored to mention the 5 cores in the Prime... yes, 5.
Have you noticed that when ever another tablet wins a round or is in the lead they show brian getting beaten up or lying on the floor, and when the ipad wins a round or closes in on the gap they show brian fighting back. Soo guess whos side brians on :)
I wonder how fast that price drop will be when the iPad 3 is released. . And since when did anything less than quad core become worth talking about?
did anyone else notice that for the features he said the ipad got a 3.7 but the video showed 4.3
That's kind of odd that Chrome wouldn't support Flash. When I think of a mobile Chrome, I thought that would be something Google would be interested in featuring.
Never thought I'd give a prizefight video a thumbs down :(
dude,da faq? The Transformar has an QUAD CORE CPU! only with this argument it wins the battle.
@MattHechtVideos he meant Google chrome beta did not support flash, the stock browser does.
They should compare the prime with the new ipad, not ipad 2...
And the bottom line is: it's your choice, there's no better or worse.
Android is open and all, but iPad "just works" and has a retina display, which is a big thing considering the whole device is a screen.
Can someone else do the prizefight? this guy makes me wanna slap myself lol.
He mostly cares about the screens and HD QUALITY and SOOO MANY MORE GAMES on that one!
Forget you CNET you said the transformer prime was better but then said it was to close to call.
I know it does. But you really can't compare a laptop to a macbook, that's a fact.
And if you say you can, you never used one.
It's just that, being made by the same company, all the parts work so well together.
There is no trackpad on a windows machine that does half the things a mac trackpad can do.
Same goes on for many other things, and same applies to iOS.
I gave you the example of an iPhone 3gs vs a SS galaxy S2.
Such an older phone and still doesn't crash like the s2, which is THE android
The like/dislike bar is very telling of CNET's integrity.
"The Prime has better this, that and the other thing, while the iPad lags behind"..."This round is too difficult to decide, so it is a tie!"
Wow, you mean the Apple Fan boys gave the edge to the Ipad any chance they could, but only called it even when the edge would go to the android device? that's a surprise.
@lufthansa7478 lol , y they called rooting ios "jailbreaking"
I have both of these devices, and to be honest, the transformer is better. The OS may allow for slicker movements with iPad 2, but the overall feel of the Prime is better in my opinion
499$ for 32 gigs vs 499$ for 16 gigs ITS A TIE.......WTF!?
You guys clearly have made decisions even before watching this. Just buy what you want and be happy with it. I don't see how this could offend you so much when it doesn't force anyone to choose one over the other.
I have never seen Fandroids rage so much.
ok I'm sure if someone from Cnet actually watched this vid they would go "WTF?'' Lets call it a tie in the value stakes? You kidding me right?
In what way? Have you actually developed for both of them so you can tell? I've only developed for Android because Apple treats its developers like money bags, but I'm interested to know in what was is it more advanced?
@StangBang35 they dont support flash anymore adobe gave up a while ago
@Kyramaer Yeah I still don't see how an8 megapixel camera/1080p playback gave it a tie
This isn't really fair comparing since the iPad 2 is almost one year old.
What people don't get is that even though this might be true and everything, what people don't get is all of the points, design, performance ect. have different value to different people.
This review does not apply to "anyone" If you wanted to find out what tablet would be best for you, you should try the "house of quality" model, that combines both your values and the individual score, to get the real score. I'm not saying the Prime is better or the iPad, I actually want a win8 tablet FYI.
Just the fact that one does not like Apple fanboys doesn't mean that one is an android user. Might just aswell be a WP7 user or equivalent.
I don't know why you guys even bother making videos comparing anything electronics cause we all know that you love apple products and that especially goes to you Brian.
great video!!!!
@StangBang35 the iPad is completely different from the iPod touch, it's a tablet and it's designed for different uses. Flash causes crashes and you can see most videos somewhere without it. The iOS app store is much more diverse and has higher quality apps and iOS is amazing. I'm not denying that I love Apple, but that's because I prefer their products compared to android devices that I've used
Slick presentation, slack research. The Prime uses Adobe Flash Player 11.1 and plays 1080p TH-cam videos - in fullscreen - flawlessly. For home use it blows the iPad2 out of the water, only losing out on the lack of 3g connectivity for those who cannot gain access to wifi when out and about.
Keep in mind that if Tong doesn't give Apple the edge he might lose his access to his sources.
Cost:
Apple does have good resale value.
However, the iPad 2 price for a 16 GB is $500. The price for a 32 GB is close to $640.
The price of the Asus transformer is $500 for 32 GB. If you want to add 16 GB more you can get an micro SD card for $10. If you want 32 GB more for a total of 64 GB you can add $30 - $40 more.
The Prime has a lot more expanding possibilities at a lesser cost than the iPad2.
@arsenalasdfghjkl what do you hate about it??
Why can't I view on my iPad??
Yeah its easy to find replacements but they are still expensive. Also you void your warranty too if you alter it at all. Have you actually tried to replace a broken screen on a iPod Touch or iPhone its a pain to do without further breaking the screen or causing more damage. Plus I fixed mine only for it to stop working again about a month later. I dont understand where you think its easy, if that was the case more people would fix their products rather than buy a new one.
MultiMedia:
The Prime has a better screen than the iPad 2. It has richer colors and better definition. The micro HDMI is an option that makes the Prime a winner. You don't have to carry any other hardware. The micro HDMI's output is 1080P.
The NVIDIA 5-core chip uses 4 cores while gaming. The added effects from some games are amazing and based on the graphic scores the Tegra3 chip outpaces the A5 dual core in all of the tests.
Audio:
The tablet's speaker is loud and clear.
In the camera test you said the transformer was better but then tied it with the "CRAPPLE" WTF.
Anyone notice that asus screen is yellow light?
2:32 He said "Optimus Prime"... LOL
On ebay it costs about £16 if you want to replace the full screen on a iPod touch so thats about $27. Also how do you plan to replace the back if you dont do it yourself, them companies charge you more for fixing it and will add on delivery charges. Its ridiculous to suggest $3 is what you expect to pay for a replacement. Its more probably $70 at least. Not to mention it might go missing in the post or be a dodgy company. Apple will charge you about $200 to fix it, a repair shop will cost $100+
Little did Brain Tong knew, he called Apple users stupid intentionally or accidentally 1:33
@planet7station you've never heard of a tablet before the Ipad...?
I like CNET, but their love for Apple truly shows. Android's Browser CHROME does not support Flash, they state. However, Chrome is a download. The stock Android browser does support Flash.
Design:
The "super sexy" design and thinner frame is great, but "in some cases" it has affected performance. Well in some cases Apple's iPad has not booted up. And the screen has cracked just from holding it. But just in case"in some cases"
okay...so they give a tie to the cameras when the ipad2's cam is "embarrasing" with 720p vid while the tf prime has 8mp and 1080p vid....typical
i could tell who won by looking at the comments
yeh, idk why you would use a camera for a tablet, i also think that the whole reason you would buy the asus is because of the dock, which is loads of money- so i personally think that the ipad is better value, and like they said if you were to sell the ipad on ebay you would hardly loose any money- but clearly a BIG win for the ipad
Asus has a better camera (with flash), panoramic photography, very clear larger screen and 1080p playback, but it's too close, it's a tie.
WTF? Better screen and better cam on the prime so much that u labeled the ipad 2 as embarrassing yet u give them a tie?
Market:
The iOS market has a lot of apps. It is more mature of an OS therefore it has many more apps. However, majority of the top apps can also be found on the Android Market.
Android does have a lot more free and cheaper apps than iOS.
I thought performance also meant the processor and speeds.... not swiping left to right
So in round 4 the transformer is noticeably better but you call it a tie? Cool beans.
This video is 1 month early.
I think Android and iOS both have their advantages and disadvantages, the main attraction of iOS being is simplicity. However, because of Android's ability to be customised a lot more than iOS can, it can be made as simple or as complicated as you like. This is why I think the Asus is better.
How come this video is disabled for ipad? that explains why every video is getting less views and more dislikes
Man it seems because of Apple name and history. That certain people, and companies, would stay loyal. Instead of heading into the future(prime). They would rather go down with the ship
Hey Cnet, your Bias is showing... I'd like to walk around the office and see how many people have Apple products. I'd bet it's more than 80%.
@arsenalasdfghjkl you do know you can use windows on the prime right?...and you don't have to buy an app to do it...it comes with that ability built in
ASUS TF300TG VS IPAD3 ?????
They should have added a personalization category...
45 app updates? Who doesn't update their apps?
that was a good fair comparison. I'm totally surprised that asus prime isn't trying to use flash. keep up the good work Brian, the apple haters are a bitter bunch of complainers.
i felt like you guys aren't being fair with this one. It's like you are saying nothing could ever be better than the ipad. The only thing it had over it's competitor was ui simplicity, and 1 1/2 hours of more battery life. smh at yall.
At least I could watch CNET videos on the asus...
>Lack of a widescreen is an advantage ಠ_ಠ
Any feature that is better in the Transformer Prime is called a ''Tie'' by CNET...Ridiculous.
Wow! C Net decided the apple product was the best AGAIN? Never saw that coming.
