I cracked up when you mentioned burnt face man, because your voice in a way is similar to his. I don't mean that in a bad way, as you actually are very charismatic in presenting your videos. This helped me confirm my choice for getting a Transformer, btw!
thanks for posting the review! i'm in the market for a tablet and so far this one has me sold. now all i have to do is wait another month for the new samsung tabs to come out to make my final decision.
Thank you for this review, showing the true cappability of what the Asus can do, this has really helped me in chooseing my tablet for college. I almost got an Ipad2, but that whole, no flash drive ports, and no Flash really held me back, and I was unawear that this was out there, so I will be getting a Asus, thank you for your help bro
One of the best comprehensive reviews I saw on Transformer, even written reviews aren't this good. Wish there was a bit more comparison with iPad2. Felt more like a Transformer review than a comparison.
I got mine about 1 week ago and I can say I could not be more happy with it. Was so much better than some of the reviews . Was looking at a Ipad 2 but you have so much more interface to work with the eeeepead can't go wrong . Got keyboard on order. I have been buying asus mother boards for years nothing but the best in my books . Also did update today to 3,2 honycomb :) I think netflix app will be coming soon !
Buying the Asus Transformer. Simply the best available right now for what I need a tablet for. great review, covered a nice array of features of both Honeycomb and the hardware.
it's not a question really. i'd so take this over the ipad. it's one of the best looking and performing little tab's on the market, so why not? good review man. keep it up
One of the best comprehensive reviews I saw on Transformer, even written reviews aren't this good. Wish there was a bit more comparison with iPad2. Felt more like a Transformer review than a comparison. I'd buy either the Transformer or iPad2
I would definitly buy this one, I tried it in a shop and it was awesome!!! It is very responsive and very user-friendly. I only need the last 50 euros to buy this one and I can't wait untill I have it!!!
To those who were looking to find out how to swip and get to the Android Browser menu. Open Browser->hit the menu button on top left ->Settings->Labs->Quick Control. This will get you a full screen browser and the controls appear when you swipe into the browser area from the bezel. Very cool.
Great informative video. If I were to purchase one of the two tablets you described, I would definitely go with the ASUS Transformer for its versatility and expanded options. Good job camera guy. Peace.
I would buy an iPad 2.I have an iPad 1 and am totally happy with it.It's very fast even with lots of apps and some jailbreaking tweaks. These tablets aren't going to hurt the allmighty iPad, really now, the iPad has 85% market share.Apple introduced the iPad a year ago, and still doesn't have serious competition(maybe the playbook)...So, until the competition figures out that the software needs to be optimised for the hardware, I will be a loyal Apple costumer.
@m1westwood They're two completely different videos. The one shown on the Transformer was recorded on the Transformer. The one shown on the iPad was recorded on the iPad. The difference isn't in the playback, but the recording software itself. If they were playing the same exact video, the difference would be negligible.
@InternetSandman Exactly. This is sooo much better than anything out there right now. The office suite on this is pretty legit, too. And there's many apps being developed that would help for creation. This appeals to me, since my 5+ year old laptop that I use for school is breaking down slowly, and i don't want to get a full laptop now since I'm gonna get a new one next year when I go to college. So keep the old one at home and use this beast in school.
I am going to buy this as a graduation present. I am planning to use this in college as a replacement for my laptop, which is running Ubuntu 10.4, which isn't all that different to the android platform.
if i had the chance i'd buy this without question, ive had hands on and i must say it is really responsive and intuitive and very very easy to use aswell as an incredible and accessible ui, 5/5
Wait isn't that the same dude that tripped in one of his videos in the end while talking about overclocking the i720 etc? I know it has got to be him. I can feeeeeel it. Nice comparison though. Keep up the good work.
I have both of these also. I'm holding both of them right now. Listen, they're both great devices...but the very simple fact is that I use my Asus more because of the usb port and the micro sd card slot. If you're already living the iLife then maybe it's a tougher decision but Asus is the clear winner here. I swap out a lot of music with my friends. Transfer files from home to work. Swap movies between my phone and tablet. Much easier with the Asus.
One more thing: 3. Proxy setting support is a hidden item in the OS. You have to download "any cut" app to open up this features. Proxy setting is used highly in schools and universities.
im thinking about saving up for this..i have a 17 inch laptop (UGH i was so dumb ) and it is not portable enough to carry around campus. This looks great! the keyboard will be cool for notes in class. The price point most of all gets me!
what annoys me is the more that I watch videos about it the more that I want it, but I always have that thought in the back of my mind that I probably wouldn't use it that often or have no real need for it. it'd just be so damn cool to have!
As much as I love the eee pad I would buthe iPad2 just because at this moment in time it seems to have more better optimized apps and a little more seamless but I'm sure looking at 3.0 my views will change in the future as more tablets are released. Great review though!
Hey Linus, great vid. I would buy the HTC Flyer. The pen which comes with and its features are really cool. HTC'a Sense UI is alot better than the stock one. HTC also has many very useful and stylisch widgets which other tablets dont. It has great functionality for memos and sharing stuff. It comes as first device with aOnline functionality and because of that, it can serve as a gaming console.
I'm very convinced with the Transformer over the iPad 2. I just don't see the practical, every day functionality of tablets besides entertainment and lazy web browsing. I think this one has great potential to be benchmark for future tablets. I love the dual option to be a tablet plus as a notetaking device with a real dedicated keyboard PLUS trackpad. Hopefully the response of the tablets could be much smoother in the future.
I think it is really straight forward with one to own... The Asus BUT if you are a heavy Mac user it would be much easier to get your tech sorted by using the iPad.
Also I have read that Asus TF can connect to PS3 controllers, and possibly Wii controllers, and then using them for the various emulator apps for Android, which SGS2 cannot.
pretty gd review, thanks. it's nice to see the tablet being used and i've been interested in the keyboard. only thing you didn't talk about was the expansion via apps. is it gd or bad, wher ecan you get them and how much do they cost?
Nice video, very indepth of features. Its almost impossible to have a fair comparison of an Ipad2 except for the first Ipad. Either your a Ipad fan or an Android fan. I for one like the android. There will be quite a selection of dual core tablets coming out in a few months running 3.0 honeycomb. The Asus Eee Pad transformer competes with the best of them, and for the price none beats it. Asus under estimated supply and demand, so the transformer is hard to find.
Linus a question for you. If you have an empty battery in the Eee pad part and you hook it up to the keyboard and leave it in your bag for an hour, will it recharge the pad's battery?
@XxSTRlKERxX thats because the video he played has a software bug, the camera on the transformer was recording at really low frames, this has been addressed in a software update
given the APP availability currently, and the UI iOS integration with the IPAD2 Hardware. I would still say the IPAD2 Wins over HoneyComb at this point. But I await future devices of this form factor. It's going to get quite interesting. Great video. thank you.
@dhinge the screen has a sticky film on it when purchased. just rinse it with a lightly moist soft towel. and it will be slick and shiny like the iPad.
That's a good review. I think I will get one but have three questions, 1. Can it be upgraded to Honeycomb 3.1 as I heard 3.0 isn't stable? 2. Is there a 3G module that you can buy to make it 3G enable or should we wait for the model? 3. If I have a Canon camera, like T1i, can I plug in the SD card and that it will download the pictures? If yes, that will be totally awesome.
Looks real great. Only con I see is it's a little too wide making it a bit bulky to carry around for ultimate portability (might bang things). I know it's designed that way on purpose for the notebook latching being more solid but that's just my two cents. Else, this thing screams with its fast speed and great OS. Not to mention, it has Flash and does it well.
So this has a tegra 2 1ghz dual-core CPU+GPU and it's amazing, but keep in mind that soon they're gonna release the Transformer 2 with a Tegra 3 Quad-core 1.5ghz CPU+GPU WOW!!!
iPad 2 clearly wins here. Not only is it more responsive, thinner/lighter, it also has a wealth of apps that are available today. I think a lot of people get caught up in the specs of these devices not realizing that you buy it for the apps you will run on them. I’m not saying that the Asus Eee and/or Honeycomb are bad, it will just take a generation or two before they catchup and eventually pass the iPad - not just in hardware but also with software.
Finally I tablet that focus for the majority of us that wants a cheap open system tablet and not the minority that wants a premium contracted based open system tablet. Are you listen, Motorola, Dell, Blackberry....learned from Asus from your mistakes. We, consumer, are not that stupid!
On most aspects I would definitely say the transformer, but because of the limited app store on it (which is the most important part to me) I would have to go with the iPad 2
@MILeyBERs He was playing videous recorded with the front facing camera on each device. It could mean a wide variety of things. This could mean the I Pad front facing camera is better, this coup mean the eee pad's video playback is worse but bearing in mind the video playing on the TF was bigger in size and resolution it could also mean the TF can play bigger videos with less problems.
works, but wi-fi is slower, because it's made of metal (reduces the connection). There's a cheaper (new released) TF300T vers. made of plastic so wi-fi/GPS is fixed & it's a lot cheaper than the prime. U can also check the Infinity, but it will be a very expensive android tablet.
I'm waiting for a reliable Windows tablet based platform, not HP Slate or Archos, something more functional, but with a similar design to this EEE Pad, I love that keyboard with battery pack.
ASUS EEE Pad Transformer is a great device. I happen to have one, but you don't have all the apps apple does. i got my transformer at the black friday sale at best buy for 250 regular price 400 :)
@dhinge I have an ipad and just got the transformer. The eee pad is almost as responsive as the ipad with very little difference. The eee pad blows the ipad away in terms of functionality and customization. Eee pad also has a more reflective screen but the resolution is on par with apple. Sound also lacks on the eee pad. Also very few apps at the moment but this will change very soon.
Loving the wide screen... Video recording looks a little laggy. Is this thing as intuitive as the iPad? Also Currys sells this with Norton mobile security!? Wft?? Are viruses a problem on these things?
I am pretty sure that android 3.0 will show more multitasking apps if you scroll down the list the open apps or hit the arrow that is at the bottom of the screen under the last multitasked app. Like so he will see and test!
This is the best asus eee pad transformer review on youtube so far. Great work!
I cracked up when you mentioned burnt face man, because your voice in a way is similar to his. I don't mean that in a bad way, as you actually are very charismatic in presenting your videos. This helped me confirm my choice for getting a Transformer, btw!
this is the single best resource on youtube for Asus Transformer info! Well done gamer guy
thanks for posting the review! i'm in the market for a tablet and so far this one has me sold. now all i have to do is wait another month for the new samsung tabs to come out to make my final decision.

I almost got an Ipad2, but that whole, no flash drive ports, and no Flash really held me back, and I was unawear that this was out there, so I will be getting a Asus, thank you for your help bro
this is the best designed tablet/netbook products i've seen. I want to buy this, and i never before even considered buying a tablet or a netbook
One of the best comprehensive reviews I saw on Transformer, even written reviews aren't this good. Wish there was a bit more comparison with iPad2. Felt more like a Transformer review than a comparison.
I think it says something, that one of these tablets are still usage today.
I got mine about 1 week ago and I can say I could not be more happy with it. Was so much better than some of the reviews . Buying the Asus Transformer. Simply the best available right now for what I need a tablet for. great review, covered a nice array of features of both Honeycomb and the hardware.
I bought the Asus Transformer over the Ipad and it's one of the best decisions I have ever made and I couldn't be any happier.
i just noticed that every thing tech i search u have reviewed thank you
it's not a question really. i'd so take this over the ipad. it's one of the best looking and performing little tab's on the market, so why not? good review man. keep it up
One of the best comprehensive reviews I saw on Transformer, even written reviews aren't this good.
Thhanks Linus, bought the transformer. First Android device and tablet, love it.
I bought the Asus Transformer and am loving it. Still a little new to the Android operating system, but finding my way!
just bought the transformer. i love it! best choice on the market today.
This was a review of the Asus Transformer with only weight comparison to the iPad2. But loved the review and Transformer.
Peace.
This is definately on my list of tablets I am interested in.
OMG!! I manage to order one today. Amazon had it in stock today for 1 hour....yeah!!
You're a very good reviewer. I would get this tablet based on your review. Great Job.
@gogol008 Thank you for taking the time to post.
I've never had a tablet or a netbook, but I really wanted an iPad. I then discovered android and now I want this! :3

@MCkoppoflop That's because this video was look at the EEE pad. He only included the iPad 2 for the sake of size comparison.

on the multitasking tab, its not just 5, u can scroll it up and down for everything that has been used.

I like the Transformer because you can remote it to your desktop. This is a big help for me.
omg I didn't expect the ipad's colors to be so much better
My transformer gets delivered on the 3rd May...can't wait.
This felt like a shamwow commercial... haha but great review, I can't wait for mine!
Thanks, your reviews has help in my decision to purchase the device.
As much as I love the eee pad I would buthe iPad2 just because at this moment in time it seems to have more better optimized apps and a little more seamless but I'm sure looking at 3.0 my views will change in the future as more tablets are released. Great review though!

Why don't you upgrade to the Android 4.0 version and tell us the feel of it? Thanks!
I'm very convinced with the Transformer over the iPad 2. I just don't see the practical, every day functionality of tablets besides entertainment and lazy web browsing. BUT if you are a heavy Mac user it would be much easier to get your tech sorted by using the iPad.
Have had a iPad since last September and have been thinking about a new tablet, this might fit the bill
Dude. Loved your review! Keep it up :D
I am definitely getting the Eee Pad. It's better in some cases and you don't even have to sell your house to afford it, which is amazing xD
This is absolutely amazing I'm buying this when I get the money
3.2 came out so it run's Way more better now :D Transformer FTW
Nice video, very indepth of features. Its almost impossible to have a fair comparison of an Ipad2 except for the first Ipad. Either your a Ipad fan or an Android fan. I for one like the android. The iPad 1.
But this Eee Pad Transformer and the Blackberry Playbook are attractive options as well.
The back of the Asus EEE TF is convex so you can rotate it while it's on a surface easily.
Linus a question for you. If you have an empty battery in the Eee pad part and you hook it up to the keyboard and leave it in your bag for an hour, will it recharge the pad's battery?
I would definitely get the transformer as seen in this video.
That is so SWEET! I was going to buy a mac air but now I'm having second thoughts.
@mphmaster oh but nice review by the way ;-). I've watched all of your channel's videos so far. their great!
I want this. This would be great to replace my ASUS T91, which was ASUS' first tablet PC pretty much.
@XxSTRlKERxX thats because the video he played has a software bug, the camera on the transformer was recording at really low frames, this has been addressed in a software update
Nice of you to review it on 420 :D
Best video I have watched on this product. Thank you.
Just watched this.
Drove down to a store and bought the eeetab.
given the APP availability currently, and the UI iOS integration with the IPAD2 Hardware. I would still say the IPAD2 Wins over HoneyComb at this point. But I await future devices of this form factor. It's going to get quite interesting. Great video. thank you.

Impressed... might buy this after seeing this...
im so glad i learned the expression " all of the sudden" :)
I can't wait to order my transformer getting it in a couple weeks :)
I really like android 3.0 thinking of picking one of these up
Holy crap definenty the best video ive seen on the transformer. But I must say i like my ipad2 better
Looks real great. Only con I see is it's a little too wide making it a bit bulky to carry around for ultimate portability (might bang things). it does play 1080p video he has one video on his channel playng HD video..
Looks really nice.Keep it up linus..
So this has a tegra 2 1ghz dual-core CPU+GPU and it's amazing, but keep in mind that soon they're gonna release the Transformer 2 with a Tegra 3 Quad-core 1.5ghz CPU+GPU WOW!!!
I am buying the transformer this coming wednesday. I'm super exited :D
What tablet would I buy? Anything but the ipad.
iPad 2 clearly wins here. Not only is it more responsive, thinner/lighter, it also has a wealth of apps that are available today. I would buy the KNO 14 inch tablet. Great replacement for notebooks and textbooks in school.
Finally I tablet that focus for the majority of us that wants a cheap open system tablet and not the minority that wants a premium contracted based open system tablet. Are you listen, Motorola, Dell, Blackberry....learned from Asus from your mistakes. We, consumer, are not that stupid!

Yeeee Transformer for the win! mabe when ipad 3 comes out ill buy it but I just bought the Transfomer and it wayyy better!

This could mean the I Pad front facing camera is better, this coup mean the eee pad's video playback is worse but bearing in mind the video playing on the TF was bigger in size and resolution it could also mean the TF can play bigger videos with less problems.
I have a silly question. What are the USB ports on the keyboard for? Can I my 3g usb modem in there? That would be sweet!
works, but wi-fi is slower, because it's made of metal (reduces the connection). There's a cheaper (new released) TF300T vers. made of plastic so wi-fi/GPS is fixed & it's a lot cheaper than the prime. U can also check the Infinity, but it will be a very expensive android tablet.
Did you use the new video camera for this episode linus ?
It might be a good idea to use a red/green/blue/coloured desk instead. The black on black makes the comparison hard to see
Would it be a bad idea to get one of these instead of a laptop for college?
I'm waiting for a reliable Windows tablet based platform, not HP Slate or Archos, something more functional, but with a similar design to this EEE Pad, I love that keyboard with battery pack.
I'm figuring out this wonder running the new Android ICS.
Yo Steve I'm really happy for you and imma let you finish but Asus had the best tablet of all time...... ALL TIME!
