So I am using that as a tablet for my 5 year old son and got this 9th gen version. MUCH faster, a little slimmer, smaller bezels, all around a leap forward. Plus, for the price that’s about $130-$150 cheaper than a current new model this is a nice deal. I look forward to the M-series CPUs coming into iPads which will really help future proof these tablets better but these latest CPUs are pretty strong and should do better to last several years with no compromises.

    As for the page file debate, I generally would rather just have more ram. Kind of a dumb contribution, but 16 in a full size tablet shouldn't be that odd. I think having it as an option is definitely nice, assuming the storage is fast. It will somewhat degrade storage life span, but it's not going to be significant for the vast majority of users. They just don't have the read/write cycles for it to matter, unless they used truly awful storage.

Saw it on two different occasions; when a friend first bought one and once on a long train ride (on that second occasion, I couldn't believe it was an actual Apple product, it was so big)
      When I failed to buy the Tab S8 Ultra (completely failed to get one at a price I could afford, even with deals) I went and bought a 12 inch iPad Pro. Been using that a year now, and the size no longer registers as oversized to me, the whole time still checking periodically for an S8 Ultra deal to come along. • @justitgstuff5284
      @justitgstuff5284 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@WalnutWarrior7 It's worth noting that the base iPad only supports the first gen pencil, which doesn't have wireless charging or magnetic attachment so it's more of an inconvenience to use, especially on the go. I think the processor is good enough on both of those tablets that it doesn't really matter for most users, and there are higher end tablets on both sides for professional use. Spec-wise the OnePlus tablet has a much better screen (higher refresh also means more responsive for drawing), double the memory, presumably better speakers and I'm assuming cheaper storage upgrades.
      If Apple kept the base iPad at the $330 price point, it would be more competitive and interesting. The current gen iPad seems kinda stupid compared to getting the iPad Air or saving money and getting a cheaper android tablet with similar enough specs.

Odds are it would be used so little that it's fine, but at the same time, I would never make a swap partition on an install that uses a SSD. 8GB should be more than enough memory, the battery would probably be degraded before the SSD goes bad due to swap space usage...maybe, we don't really have concrete numbers on either really. Windows uses a page file instead of swap, but it's basically the same concept. I have 32gb of ram, but even with the 16gb I have on my budget system I've put together from my last machine with some tweaks Windows is rarely going to ever access the page file, so I leave it alone.

      @@iowawalker You're right, they are told everywhere to buy an ipad. Maybe the people who test these things are on to something. I think they are. I think the ipad is a better product. It's not necessarily the hardware but the software, integration and user experience is way better than Android. No, I'm not an Apple fan boy. But having gone back to Apple recently with my phone and tablet, I think it's a much better product. But it should be for the price they charge.

    It’s a surprisingly realistic facsimile of an iPad. That’s an accomplishment. As an iPad user, I would feel comfortable switching to the Oneplus if I had to, and if that was their goal, they did it.

    After a few minutes that Apple counter starts to get a little bit annoying … iPads are basically the best tablets currently out there so its reasonable to compare this tablet to them

      why not? People wants this thing to be somewhat comparable to the iPad. No products exists in a vacum

      I think the apple counter was more a jab at oneplus blatantly copying the design language of apple, rather than an actual comparison.

      I mean this looks like the most interesting Android tablet and that's because Apple has been the only one doing it right for years.
      But the UI is a bit too blatant. Would have liked for them to put a bit more of their own OnePlus spin on it. This is basically a 1:1 copy in a lot of ways lol.

    128GB storage is... pretty good. But you still need to have expandable storage if you want the device to be an investment instead of a consumable in a few years. Storage adds up for some people. Especially for Gacha game users.

    • @MartijnTV

      Lol. Phones start at this amount now. 128 gb for a wannabe premium device is stupid

    • @TheStatisticalPizza
      @TheStatisticalPizza ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MartijnTVmy guess is that 90% of users never come anywhere near filling 128gb on their phone, the biggest storage consumption is probably video recordings and you likely will be doing none of that on your tablet.
      Most people use these devices to play a few mobile games and consume content - 128gb is plenty for that.

    • @edneddy2
      @edneddy2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MartijnTV well 128gb is just the bare minimum these days. But like you said, wannabe premium. In markets within the US, if you want more, you'll have to spend more.

    • @edneddy2
      @edneddy2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheStatisticalPizza for most cases, 128gb is enough to have a functioning phone, check a few emails, and the ability to search the web. But appdata fills up quickly and with formatting and OS storage, that 128gb shrinks pretty quickly to about half. Even google stores a lot of data locally.
      As for the mobile games, it depends on the games. Some apps have a ton of extra content that needs to be downloaded. The 5-10GB cache data that the app store doesn't mention before downloading. All that new and old released content gets saved to your device and you don't notice till your phone says it's running low on storage.

      Gacha games are trash, i only play like 1 or 2 which are good/generous, so 128GB is more than enough
      Barely i seen anyone uses more than 64gb either

I know my current one came with one but at the time the iPhone were in the last year of chargers i think, therefore I am not shure, but when they still come with a charger it is nice, then I am only salty about the removal of the headphone jack until they remove the charger in the next like two years or so
