A very interesting video which was very timely for me. I have some very good saws courtesy of Thomas Flinn and son so I had no intention of buying a restoration project. A few days ago a mate was working on a house and the elderly resident asked him to get rid of an old and dirty box. She had no idea where it came from but it had been in her loft for at least 37 years. He had no interest in old tools so he passed it on to me. It was a hand-made carpenter’s chest which contained 4 saws, three planes, some damaged chisels, brace and various bits, a spokeshave coping saw etc. the saws are extremely rusty but surprisingly sharp. The medallions are labelled Kangaroo tools. This doesn’t help much with dating since Robert Sorby and Sons of Sheffield used this trademark from 1896 to 1980. I do like a challenge so I now know what I will spend the winter doing. I have restored the least-damaged chisel to a workable state and I am using it in making a saw vice which ( hopefully) will be useful for the saw restoration. Wish me luck!

Hi Eddie. Great score on those saws! They'll give plenty of good experience too. I'm no expert on saws but if the handles look good they'll be early, if they look clunky they'll be late. All the best on the resto and saw vice build.

@@faceedgewoodworking I love the handles with deep upper and lower horns which really cradle my hand.

Thanks Peter. As much as the restoration was enjoyable I was trying to make something in a longer format. Still much to improve on!

I really enjoy all of your videos, sanding that handle must have taken ages, looks really good when finished
