  • I want to introduce you to one of my first tech loves…the original Motorola Razr. The Motorola RAZR V3 is a sleek and iconic mobile phone that gained immense popularity upon its release. Launched in 2004, it revolutionized the mobile phone industry with its slim, clamshell design and metallic finish. The RAZR V3 boasted a vibrant internal color screen and a smaller external display for notifications. With its innovative keypad layout and precision craftsmanship, it offered a satisfying tactile experience. Equipped with a VGA camera, Bluetooth connectivity, and expandable memory, it was considered cutting-edge for its time. The RAZR V3's timeless design and exceptional build quality solidified its status as a classic, earning it a place in the hearts of many technology enthusiasts and becoming an iconic symbol of the early 2000s mobile revolution.

I'm weird, I kept every cell phone I've ever had. One time I plugged one into see if it still worked for the hell of it, and it did! It was pretty surreal reading texts from 12 years ago 📱👀

I think most people keep their old cellphones, what else to do with them? If you don't change phones every year, your old phone is not worth the time and effort to sell.
Also, why would it not work? People have gadgets for 30+ years and they still work.
You are not weird, you are like everyone else.

Yes same here, I got a box with about twenty five or so phone's from the last fifteen or so years, and they really are neat little time capsules for some nosetalgia, reading old Texts, looking at old pictures of friends and family, some that are gone or moved on.

I've also kept some of my old phones(mostly pre Android, and couple backup Android phones) that were not trashed, and had some memories attached to them, but now that Google transfers my text from one phone to the next, along with everything else, it's less of an issue to keep so many of my old phones, and I end up either giving them to family who can use them, recycling them, or donating them to "Cell Phones for Soldiers"

Back when phones were exciting. The new razr+ 2023 sparked alot of interest in these newer foldables for me. It's the first one in the America's that actually looks like it isn't just a proof of concept. I'm picking it up and I've got that feeling I used to get back in the day. On these old phones they had something called wireless village built in where you could use AIM, MSN, icq, or yahoo messenger which is usually in the sms section of the phone. I actually bought AT&T's domain that they used for it so it actually could be possible to make it work again with escargot msn again or even discord without modifying the phone haha.

Verizon had every say, so when it came to all of the phones you could buy from them except the windows mobile like phones, the higher end business like phones, but all the consumer level phones such as the razor. And such they had fool say so on. The features set and software so they can lock certain functionality that the phone itself. Actually had if you bought from Motorola themselves or something, but the operating system was also. The same one on every 1 of the consumer level phones at Verizon.. They had literally everything locked down And I remember the Verizon Motorola razor and then going and seeing a non Carrier locked Motorola razor that seemingly have what look to be much more advanced operating system and software running on it And if I remember right? They ran a Java based operating system on the non Verizon models.

@@weeboutthere427 I totally agree with you! WHEN is Apple going to put out something exciting? From the iPhone 6 all the way to the current iPhone 15 very little has changed visually as far as the physical design or shell of the device, for the exception of rounding off the corners one year and squaring them off the following year, then back to the rounded edges design again and so on and so forth. Then they teeter back and forth with the materials from glass to aluminum and back to glass again. I think they threw titanium in the mix a few times, other than that not much as changed, BORING! Unless you're a die hard apple iPhone aficionado, the average person at first glance wouldn't be able to tell if you were holding an iPhone 8 plus from an iPhone 14 pro max, unless the back camera lenses were visable. Black squares is exactly what they are. The Motorola Razr is and always will be iconic & surely was ahead of its time both internally, but mostly by its esthetically pleasing metal design!

I was the first one in my family to have a Razr when I was in my 20s and before six months every single family member of mine had also gotten themselves one. It was such a great phone. • @CommodoreFan64
      @CommodoreFan64 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes he mentions that in video about the newer foldable Razr models, but they are expensive, the screens are fairly fragile being made of such thin glass, and finding replacement parts can be a bit hard, plus being a bit tricky to work on as shown by Hugh Jefferies who does a lot of repair, and right to repair videos on his channel.

    • @cbgg1585

@@CommodoreFan64’s actually insane how expensive it is. There was a low chance I would upgrade from my iPhone 11 as I am so accustomed to IOS, but seeing that the Razr 2022 was just a touch below $2000 opposed to the iPhone 14 Pro Max coming in at just over $1500 AUD, it was a no brainer.
The camera on the Razr 2022 is just mediocre. Razr’s wide angle lenses are not great. Apparenntly the Razr 2022 has the highest megapixel count of smartphones, but despite this, the overall colour depth is not great and the overall phone is not worth 2k asking price.
Apple imo, still has the best phone cameras going around.

The most I've ever personally spent on a single phone was about 320 USD for a Motorola Moto G3 with a custom back plate, and case, usually I'm well under 300 USD. with my last phone an unlocked Nokia G50 I got for about 240 USD, and it does everything I need a phone to do, and then some.

My Dad worked at Motorola as a systems engineer for land mobile radios (not cell phones) through the 80s to the 2010s, I remember when the razor came out, it was a huge deal and he had one. Loved that design and the marketing campaign with ACDC's Back in Black. Something people forgot is the Razor did have data services for some type of web browsing, that was something super advanced at the time.
Our family also had the StarTac, which ended up becoming a toy for the kids as time went on 🤣
Motorola had some cutting edge products and still I think makes the best radios in the business, but boy did they fall from grace. The Razor was an attempt to win back the mobile market. This is a nice reminder of the bright spots.

I always loved the design as a kid.

Flipping flip phone open with one hand used to be my pastime, its so satisfying if you nailed that before answering a call, especially if you do the flailing motion rather than only using your thumb to flip it up. I also used to own a Samsung flip phone that bounces upon dropping it, good old times.

I had a T720 back in the day before getting the RAZR. Then went to blackberry phones for awhile and then settling back with Motorola again for the past 6 years. I have the Motorola One right now and it's a fantastic midrange phone

I was fortunate enough to have my MOM & DAD buy me a Rzr for my 16th B-Day & I LOVED that thing‼️ I had EVERYONE jealous in HighSchool 😂
I believe it was the smallest phone when it released lol
That’s when technology was trying to shrink, now it seems like we’re going in a completely opposite direction these days 😆
    Another great vid by MJ‼️

Just found my Razr yesterday in a box. Bought it in 2005, lasted until iPhone 1 in 07. Stunned that it still works… charging was fine, it turned on without an issue. It shows “NO SIM” so I couldn’t navigate. The camera was comically awful, LOL. I DO have a few photos from this phone still…tiny thumbnail size pics, Coldplay concert in 2005…but you can’t even tell what it is from the photos. 🤷🏻‍♂️😆. Still loved this phone back in the day…transferring files using a BT dongle on PC was pretty cool’s back then.

Loved mine - silver 2006 model. Used it till it broke in half at the hinge, then continued using it as the bottom/keypad dangled from the screen portion with a couple wires holding it together 😂

Wow! Man I absolutely loved my Razr. Sleek metal case with a Dark matte grey finish. Big beautiful screen inside and a cool small outside screen you could set a short video clip on. Played Splinter Cell on that thing for hours. Had a Slipknot ringtone. Still one of my favorite phones that I have ever had. And now I need to go dig it out of the junk drawer and fire it back up for that sweet, sweet nostalgia hit.

My parents each had a razr. Mom had the res one while my dad had the silver. Remember using their phone just to play that "Hello Moto" ringtone over and over again😂 Those phones were sweet

A phone today is everything- emailer, office docs, scanner, camera, game player, zoom meeting, maps, sd card reader, usb device, I set my Raspberry pi up with it, nearly everything you can think of. Oh
..and it can make calls..😊 unfortunately we needed smart phones.

*_The RAZR wasn’t my first phone, but it was the first phone I bought with my own money. $200 back in 2005. While the phone was great, my memories of it were more centered around the tech. Wireless technology was changing so fast back then, and people didn’t have the understanding of it like they do today. I remember I had to drive to the city and park in a parking lot to download Doom RPG because it was the only place around that had 2G fast enough to do so. LOL I remember having it sitting on a table and my Uncle asked what it was. I told him it was my phone. Being completely serious, he replied, “No, really… what is it?” He couldn’t believe a phone could be so small. The RAZR really was the iPhone before the iPhone. Everyone either had one or wanted one._*

I have a Razr V3XX and I loved it! It had a really nice and responsive UI, looked much better and smooth than the crud in the first V3. It also had a front camera when flipped out.

There are plenty of great J2ME games out there and it's probably one of the most underrated libraries. Quite a few AAA games also got demake such as Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty which I've found to be pretty fun.

Yeah buddy! I worked at a big box electronics store around then. I had the razr the v phone the sidekick. Remember the razr commercial how it was so razer thin they had it stuck in the table like someone threw it and it stuck like a throwing knife. Thanks for the trip back to the 00s 😊
