It's so ironic how my skin is the same shade or even lighter than alot of coloreds. I'm Xhosa. Xhosa's also come from the Khoi-san i just don't have an Afrikaaner accent. You'll find that there are alot of Xhosa people lighter than alot of coloreds. Is being colored a skin tone? If it isn't then its a culture not race. OMW this reporter is putting her own spin on the comments from the community. I clearly heard the gentleman say that the ANC invited the people to the western cape with promises of housing. On the other hand she is saying that the community said that the ANC have allowed the people to be here and that they are claiming that they shouldn't be here and that they are the ones that are more deserving of services. This was not what they were saying at all. In fact the one lady said that they are tired of being held hostage in their community by protesters. They cannot go to work because of the frequent protest by this community for services. They are ratepayers and are tired of losing out on days of work because of protests. They are tired of the lawlessness of vehicles being burned, ATM's being destroyed. The one hawker that always lend a helping hand to those in need being robbed of his livelihood. This is poor reporting. However I can totally relate to the frustration of the coloured communities. In almost every backyard on the Cape Flats you will find families that are staying in back yard dwellings. They are being overlooked by the government to accommodate people that illegally occupy land, mostly from the Eastern Cape. These persons knowing full well that there are no services on these lands go ahead and illegally occupy it in any case. They then demand services, by keeping government ransom and in the process disrupt the lives and livelyhood of people that pay their taxes and government levies despite struggling themselves. This is frustration boiling over, from a community that already have so much to deal with in crime and violence, then also have to struggle with getting in and out of their communities to go and earn a living almost on a weekly basis because of people demanding services. We cannot always go and burn and destroy and demand and disrupt the lives of law abiding citizens for something we created for ourselves. Go and protest in from of parliament if you need to protest and leave the communities that are already struggling alone.

I'll never forget the day when Siqalo rested it's ugly head in that area. It was a nice looking farmyard, then literally overnite squaters came in droves, by morning there were shacks all over the place, it eventually grew and grew, when the owner of land told them to go, he was threatened that him and his family will be killed if he persists, he then went to city, it's still an ongoing process. Ever since Siqalo popped up, Crime in that area rose exponentially, now Colorado park have dealt with crime in the past, mainly petty crimes due to drugs entering the area, but it wad still a very safe area, Rondevlei the neighbouring was also very safe, since Siqalo however, we have more break ins, more robberies, looting and the biggest crime since Siqalo is Smash and Grab, it's never safe driving past there, and another new one is these bastards climbing on busses and robbing people.

As sad as it is Most South African Coloured will always have problems with Blacks. During Apartheid the whites literally dangled a carrot in front of them. Why do I say that? Most did not finish school (for no reason), because they could go work in factories and work their way up to being managers without high school certificates and be boss to the blacks. (They had free education and books, Blacks had to pay). I personally have 3 such aunts (sadly) from my mom side of the family. When Chinese shops came to Cape Town and there were no more factories, they had no schooling and no other work experience. On the other hand, blacks had their high school and higher education diplomas. Now when Blacks get the job they called it racism. NOT true, I have coloured cousins with good jobs and I know lots of Black graduates without work. Coming from a half- coloured family I have seen this, but it's mainly those coloureds who lack education, who have this problem. It is true that going from riches to rags it's painful. They were not rich maybe but they always had jobs no matter how menial they were, and they never thought they will suffer as black South Africans. Helen Zille also promised them when she wanted their votes that she will get rid of all Blacks coming from the Eastern Cape because they are foreigners to Cape Town. Still, I don't understand how one is a foreigner in your own country. I suggest they go to the DA offices and demand justice for their vote.

Can't the state start building out Village style squatter provisions on farmland close to the city. Perhaps being able to grow food for a community is a step up. I hate it that this city is so dependent on a city to the point of impoverished lifestyles. It doesn't need to be that way. The information era opens up the whole world's experience of homestead living, growing your own food and making a living even off the grid.

Actually, it is clear why minority rights are important and people of one ethnic group should be self-governing. Suppose in the EU , everything would be dictated by German and maybe France -> of course , people would protest then. I think the equivalent of Germans and French would be Zulu and Xhosa in South Africa and together with other ethnic groups they are grouped as Bantu. It should be clear that Bantu is actually a language family but people are identified by language. So , as we can see from the USA smaller languages can not survive in such a majority-centered country which means that in South Africa try to be or assimilate to Zulu-English like in the USA people try to be or assimilate to English or American-English.

We have the same problem in America in California there's a high percentage of people that are homeless and everybody agrees the government should be able home for homeless people to get them off the street but nobody wants it there their community. OMW this reporter is putting her own spin on the comments from the community. I clearly heard the gentleman say that the ANC invited the people to the western cape with promises of housing. On the other hand she is saying that the community said that the ANC have allowed the people to be here and that they are claiming that they shouldn't be here and that they are the ones that are more deserving of services. This was not what they were saying at all.
In fact the one lady said that they are tired of being held hostage in their community by protesters. They cannot go to work because of the frequent protest by this community for services. They are ratepayers and are tired of losing out on days of work because of protests. They are tired of the lawlessness of vehicles being burned, ATM's being destroyed. The one hawker that always lend a helping hand to those in need being robbed of his livelihood. This is poor reporting.
However I can totally relate to the frustration of the coloured communities. In almost every backyard on the Cape Flats you will find families that are staying in back yard dwellings. They are being overlooked by the government to accommodate people that illegally occupy land, mostly from the Eastern Cape.
These persons knowing full well that there are no services on these lands go ahead and illegally occupy it in any case. They then demand services, by keeping government ransom and in the process disrupt the lives and livelyhood of people that pay their taxes and government levies despite struggling themselves. This is frustration boiling over, from a community that already have so much to deal with in crime and violence, then also have to struggle with getting in and out of their communities to go and earn a living almost on a weekly basis because of people demanding services.
We cannot always go and burn and destroy and demand and disrupt the lives of law abiding citizens for something we created for ourselves. Go and protest in from of parliament if you need to protest and leave the communities that are already struggling alone.

As sad as it is Most South African Coloured will always have problems with Blacks. During Apartheid the whites literally dangled a carrot in front of them. Why do I say that? Most did not finish school (for no reason), because they could go work in factories and work their way up to being managers without high school certificates and be boss to the blacks. (They had free education and books, Blacks had to pay). I personally have 3 such aunts (sadly) from my mom side of the family. When Chinese shops came to Cape Town and there were no more factories, they had no schooling and no other work experience. On the other hand, blacks had their high school and higher education diplomas. Now when Blacks get the job they called it racism. NOT true, I have coloured cousins with good jobs and I know lots of Black graduates without work. Coming from a half- coloured family I have seen this, but it's mainly those coloureds who lack education, who have this problem. It is true that going from riches to rags it's painful. They were not rich maybe but they always had jobs no matter how menial they were, and they never thought they will suffer as black South Africans. Helen Zille also promised them when she wanted their votes that she will get rid of all Blacks coming from the Eastern Cape because they are foreigners to Cape Town. Still, I don't understand how one is a foreigner in your own country. I suggest they go to the DA offices and demand justice for their vote.

Can't the state start building out Village style squatter provisions on farmland close to the city. Perhaps being able to grow food for a community is a step up. I hate it that this city is so dependent on a city to the point of impoverished lifestyles. It doesn't need to be that way. Actually, it is clear why minority rights are important and people of one ethnic group should be self-governing. Suppose in the EU , everything would be dictated by German and maybe France -> of course , people would protest then. I think the equivalent of Germans and French would be Zulu and Xhosa in South Africa and together with other ethnic groups they are grouped as Bantu. It should be clear that Bantu is actually a language family but people are identified by language. So , as we can see from the USA smaller languages can not survive in such a majority-centered country which means that in South Africa try to be or assimilate to Zulu-English like in the USA people try to be or assimilate to English or American-English.

We have the same problem in America in California there's a high percentage of people that are homeless and everybody agrees the government should be able home for homeless people to get them off the street but nobody wants it there their community.
