+raisedfist80 I'm just picturing her lying there on the stretcher in extreme distress, as the paramedic is trying to console her by casually complimenting her musical abilities, then she replies deadpan: "yeah, but you literally just saved my life." I guess it's the extreme gratitude towards this complete stranger. It also reminds me of a lyric a friend of mine wrote describing a paramedic trying to cheer her up after a suicide attempt...yeah that's probably it.
For me, it's not metaphorical at all. This song gives me the vibe of being scared shitless. It only takes a few episodes of suddenly difficult breathing to make you that way. Maybe just one.
I love Courtney, she's such a genuinely lovely person. I saw her over 4 years ago in a tiny local venue and made her a little gift as I was watching her. I shyly gave it to her afterwards, whilst people were getting CD's signed. She asked me what I was doing later that evening and if I wanted to come to her performance at a much bigger venue, also locally. I'd already had plans that night, so I didn't get to go, but I was so touched by her kindness and humility. ❤️
Yeah I met her once, I made her a little wooden box and when you open it there's a plasticine model of a ww2 bomber in it with the words 'fuck a dancer, always feel substandard' written in the lid. She asked if i'd like to fuck off. Which I did. One of the best nights of my life.
A nicer lady you couldn't wish to meet. Salt of the earth, you know? Once I saw her passing by my local sweet shop (I was inside)! I know, crazy, right? What the hell was she doing in my shithole of a town? Anyway, I wasted no time at all as I was fully aware that this rare occurence may never happan again, so I grabbed a twix bar and ran up to her and asked her to accept it as a token of appreciation for the relevance of her lyrics and how they have helped me to make sense of my life. Needless to say she took the twix bar from my hand and smiled at me. Best day of my life by far! Each time I visit my local weet shop, she's in my head!
I noticed that line great way to bat a compliment back lol, there's a strong self-deprecating element to a lot of her songs it's really refreshing, all the big noting and bragging in modern pop is really tedious this is a refreshing anti-dote.
Her voice and expression resonate deeply within in me. It touches a despair I feel and that I think many people do. She wears it so freely, without putting a mask on to hide her pain. Thank you! Not everything is sunshine and roses. Pain does exist, and there's nothing wrong with it.
It's 2020 and my teenage daughter turned me on to this song. I originally wanted to learn more about the music she enjoyed as I did growing up. Honestly, this song helps me personally get through the day sometimes.

But they wouldn't let me on the tennis court". “I Shall Be Free No. 10” ~ “Another Side Of Bob Dylan” (1964).........................probably not intentional. :-)
I just got out of hospital yesterday and I found this song today. Man, does it say everything for me right now. I'm starting a garden on the deck of my loft.
I stumbled across this not long after it came out, and saw her on one of her first UK shows back in 2014 at a really small gig. Hung out briefly after the show, she put me on to King Gizzard and some other Aussie groups who were unheard of here at the time. Listened to her EPs a lot when I was just driving round as a 20 year old to work and slightly melancholic. Caught her on her next tour a year later in a different city and she remembered me, Bones and Dave as well. Cool guys, thanks for soundtracking part my early 20s, eternally grateful

Corey Cavalier I read your comment yesterday. After listening to the song 20 or so times more, I don't know why, but the song just seems to have that effect. It's so strangely addictive. Edit: I feel very uncomfortable with having written "after listening to the song 20 or so times more". Very grammatically awkward. My apologies to anyone that cares.

Courtney is my mom in the 60's and 70's. If she were to have made a song it would have been this. Private Catholic school didn't take her rebellion out of her. Even after being beaten by the nuns. Cystic Fibrosis ended up taking her. She adopted a child because she didn't want the chance I would have the sickness. She would have loved you. It's the protest. Even if you're sick, you're still tough as nails. She would tell me stories of attacking men hitting on her or her sisters with bad men and she'd beat the shit out of them. Just an all around tough but beautiful woman. My mom and dad met because my dad had a motorcycle and he was giving her attitude when she was a waitress. My dad and his brothers/friends didn't leave a tip afterwards and she threw an entire pot of coffee at them. She told them she wanted to ride my dads 69' triumph, and the rest is history. This song makes me laugh cry. Thanks Courtney. I'll be listening to this song the rest of my life thinking about the most beautiful soul to walk this Earth. **Edit- Fungus from gardening getting in her lungs was her end. She loved plants, and damn good at growing them. Cystic Fibrosis is the cause. If I could murder anything, it's CF
Was on NPR today. Good find. I also lol'd at "I'd rather die than owe the hospital till i get old." I've actually said that before. But you shouldn't have that problem, You're Australian!
You have to pay for ambulances unless you have the insurance for it in Australia. I once caught a taxi to the emergency department to avoid this haha. Once you get to the hospital it's free though so it's still pretty awesome.
"The paramedic thinks I'm clever 'cause I play guitar I think she's clever cause she stops people dying" There is so much truth in this line! A coworker recommended this song to me because of this line. We work in a downtown food bank where we frequently have to call in first responders - and there is a huge amount of mutual respect between us when we do. They often tell me that they can't imagine doing my job - and I respond in kind.
Like many others I came here from Bojack (a good few years ago now). I know it may not be the most organic or “cool” way to discover music, but I’ve discovered hundreds of songs from movies and TV shows. This one has really stuck with me and has a lot of meaning for me :)
I think its about a girl with a health problem that realizes that she should have stayed inside after trying to do activities that cause her respiratory system to work harder, which is not good for her, also mine are working harder rn cause of dis joint
'Literally'? Seems like only douches (mis)use that word. Btw there are much bigger and larger problems than quarantine. But if quarantine gives you and identity and some edge, then use it.. but dont be a douche about it. Whats next you're gonna appropriate slave blues songs for your few months in luxury 'qurantine' ?

That was GOLD!! I've never forgotten it, happened on an episode of 120 Minutes around 1992 or so.
funny you say that, butch Vig, who is Nirvana's old producer if you already didn't know, in a recent interview cited Courtney Barnett as one of his favorite artists working today in an otherwise Bleak musical landscape.
She must have been influenced far more by Pavement though. She is the female Stephen Malkmus. Just take one listen to Pavement's "Slanted and Enchanted" album.

Corey Cavalier This song is audio cocaine.
the lyrics are extremely clever
I think they're clever because they stop people dying.
@Jack Raymond I've told you not to stay on TH-cam past your bedtime
Loved this song as soon as I heard it! Clever lyrics 👏👍🙂
Things aren't going so well for me at the moment and then this song finds me..... then it occurs to me that I'm not the only one in this shit, thanks for speaking to all of us
is it odd that this song makes me wanna go to a quiet place with a cool landscape and just stay there with my earphones listening to music all day
Helton Tognoli no
Anything to take my mind away from where it's spose to be. cried at those lines
BoJack brought me back here, and I'm so fucking glad it did.
+Caleb Donovan Well said
+Caleb Donovan I was very pleasantly surprised to hear it play, such a good song:O
+Caleb Donovan I got here through 12 seconds out outro on Blunt Talk, of her cover of that Lemonheads song. Freakin' hard to google, but it payed off like crazy!
+Caleb Donovan BoJack brought me here too...She's awesome!!
Bojack from DBZ?
Thank you National Public Radio and Marketplace for playing this little lead in! what a wonderful Gem to discover!
You might like a band called The Doublejumps if you like Courtney Barnett
I think the show on Public Radio was
'Eclectopia'.
Beautiful poetry and music
I've listened to this song at least 1000 times. Lyrics, music, delivery: perfect. Brava
"I thought to myself, what if she rejects me? What if she doesn't like me, the way I like her? She is really important to me, I don't wanna fuck up our relationship with this. But I am not the only one who is afraid of rejection. I have to try it, cause I wanna do it, and I'm able to do it.
So I went over to her."
"I sleep in late, another day..."
today was the best monday of my life.
Then I wish you Tuesdays just the same!
it's a monday 00:21, today i leave home for the semester. had a horrible panic attack today and was rewatching bojack for distraction, and i just had to look up this lovely song:') the i'm having trouble breathing part made me smile
"The paramedic thinks I'm clever 'cause I play guitar. I think she's clever 'cause she stops people dying". This song always brings a smile :)

Beautiful song to end season 2

Breathin and wheezin, feel like I'm emphysemin'...classic.
im watching this with my friend his is awesome! this song is awesome too
Genius! Lyrics are so refreshing and music so well put with it. Can someone suggest more songs like this.
Was on NPR today. Good find. I also lol'd at "I'd rather die than owe the hospital till i get old."
I've actually said that before. But you shouldn't have that problem, You're Australian!
You have to pay for ambulances unless you have the insurance for it in Australia. I once caught a taxi to the emergency department to avoid this haha. Once you get to the hospital it's free though so it's still pretty awesome.
This song contains a lot of words that I would not expect to find in a song.
Heard this song through a mixed playlist and immediately searched for it. Such a humorous song, and such a good song to vibe too.
"The paramedic thinks I'm clever 'cause I play guitar
I think she's clever cause she stops people dying"
There is so much truth in this line! A coworker recommended this song to me because of this line. We work in a downtown food bank where we frequently have to call in first responders - and there is a huge amount of mutual respect between us when we do. They often tell me that they can't imagine doing my job - and I respond in kind.
"The paramedic thinks I'm clever 'cause I play guitar, I think she's clever 'cause she stops people dying"
"I feel like Uma Thurman post-overdose and kickstart." LOVE IT!!!
One of the best lyricists of all time!
Brilliant Singer,Brilliant!!!!
The baseline ripping like a freight train takes this song to another level.
Like many others I came here from Bojack (a good few years ago now). I know it may not be the most organic or “cool” way to discover music, but I’ve discovered hundreds of songs from movies and TV shows. This one has really stuck with me and has a lot of meaning for me :)
This song could literally be ABOUT quarantine.
Yeah! Just realize that too.
@@Stoney-Jacksman dude ... you okay?
This is literally the song of 2020.

Had to click on this in my recommends cause I thought the name was the best pun I'd seen all year, turns out it's one of the best songs I've heard all year
'Ok' - Bojack Horseman
"Hurray!!" Todd Chavez
I now listen to this during my morning run.
Bronze Guy "it gets easier, you just got to keep at it everyday that's the trick"
thats why im here haha
"TRUE DAT"
This is 6 years old I feel like this came out yesterday on college mtv channel when I was high and first discovered it god I’m getting old
I swear, I SWEAR if I ever find myself on a show with Kennedy, I'm gonna have that clip cued up when she said she was voted 'The Most Unpopular VJ On MTV' and then said, " And I just want to say FU!!!" at the top of her lungs. That was GOLD!! I've never forgotten it, happened on an episode of 120 Minutes around 1992 or so.
It gets easier. Everyday it gets a little bit easier. But you have to do it everyday. Thats the hard part. But it does get easier
'OK'

Thank you, SNL for introducing this Midwestern American to the music of Courtney Barnett. I. Love. Her. Music.
I grew up with Polly jean Harvey throughout the 90’s/2000’s but today I have this amazing women! And she’s Aussie to boot!
This is just great. I'm a fan. She carries the spirit of Kurt.
glad I'm not the only one who felt the same thing when hearing this music!
funny you say that, butch Vig, who is Nirvana's old producer if you already didn't know, in a recent interview cited Courtney Barnett as one of his favorite artists working today in an otherwise Bleak musical landscape.
She must have been influenced far more by Pavement though. She is the female Stephen Malkmus. Just take one listen to Pavement's "Slanted and Enchanted" album.
Nothing like Kurt. Kurt didn’t have a shitty voice and tryhard lyrics
Courtney é um talento que seguiremos por décadas...
My two favorite things about this are the beautiful slapback delay and bob dylan keeping score
Haunting Bass line. Psychedelic Guitars. Cool, blase singer
I always liked this track. It really takes you along for a story.
"I think she's clever because she stops people dying"
ahaha.. so plain spoken.
