I have a nebulizer with a compressor that is very loud - I have it on the other side of the door of the room that my rats are in. My one boy absolutely hates it and panics every time even though I usually put him in his kennel (which is a safe place that he has learned if we’re traveling). What I’ve opted to do instead is leave the hot shower running in the bathroom with the fan and put the rats in with the steamy room. They usually free roam in the bathroom, so they are comfortable in there. I do this every second night and it helps my guy with his congestion, and definitely avoids the stress of being contained! I’ve been trying to look for a portable nebulizer, but the ųm (particles) are not small enough for what they recommend for rats to benefit from, but that was the advice for my vet.
Interesting. My vet actually does recommend a nebulizer with steam.
