You can mount your ssd to the back side of the top rack and will still be able to mount a larger drive on the front side. This will move your ssd out of the way of the side vent which I'm sure your graphics card will need all the fresh air she can get in that small case.
The key is mounting the ssd data drive to the back side first and then the std hard drive to the outer side next. If not the larger hard drive will block the mounting holes for the ssd. I will try to provide pictures later.
I'm SO SO HAPPY I found your video. I just bought a HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop and I was scared that I wouldn't be able to upgrade the parts inside. Now that I watched your video, I feel relieved that I can and don't have to toss the PC out to get a new one. ♥♥
@@TNW1337 while ur here quick question, given the insane prices for gpus right now, what would you recommend to someone who needs a PC for the new Halo in about 6 months? Thanks for this I just purchased one of these with the plan to do just what you did here. Now I can see exactly how to do it although I was already confident I could do it. The one thing that did really help was the pin connectors to GPU I was not sure my new computer just had 6 pin or if it would connect up to the 8 pin. Thanks for pointing that out.
@@TNW1337 hey get this so i was asking stuff in the hp community and this is the basic stuff that was said so this is what i asked about the 400w psu and the rtx he said this. Now, why don't I recommend the RTX 2060? Because in smaller cases they can develop too much heat. Also, if it doesn't work with your 400W PSU, you are upset with HP and me. I have to go by what the manufactures recommend for their products. If I am building my own computer, I may take a chance that a component will work, but I don't want you to have to return it. I still recommend the 500W PSU. It will give you some extra power for peak needs. after that i asked this to. Can i go higher for memory mhz cuz its stock 2666 but max is 3200 can the bios update fix it or what let me know your thoughts on all of that and thanks again. Him The only other suggestion that I would make is, the Ryzen 7 3700X would be a decent upgrade to your processor. The 3200 MHz is the fastest memory that you can install. I believe to get this speed you will have to buy the memory from HP. There are no other XMP's in the BIOS/UEFI. your ideas on this or anyone cuz i see you technitwit add what was it 3000mhz right in this and i bet its still working fine with what u added so far and some others i watched add the max 3200 so what and the hell is he on about i feel like hes a employee that is undercover trying to get ppl to buy they shit only dont get me wrong im hp all the way but jeez
@@THBGYMN Yeah or he has a sponsorship with them, so he is not allowed to say it you can or can not. If you look up the TG you can get a RTX 2060 s From Hp. So I am not sure what he is talking about. Go to HP site find the TG and you can upgrade it on thire page, to a RTX 2060 Super. Mine runs just fine with the super did for over 14 Weeks. I beat the crap out of it. Also I am not sure why people think there is cooling problems where is 4 or 5 Fans depending on your model. It is a negative psi setup Sucks from the from then exhausts. So 1st fan in on the PSU, 2nd one Is on the rear of the Case, 3rd Is on the CPU it's Self, 4th is on the GPU, And if you get a 1660ti or RTX 2060s it has 2 Fans so that is 5 all together. All pushing out there rear of the case, all but the CPU fan.
@@THBGYMN Memory/Ram is variable in the new 8th, 9th gen Intel, and all gen Ryzen. The bios is locked witch sucks, and no XMP profile are supported. 3200Mhz and 3000Mhz both work. Some time it down clocks it to 2400Mhz or 2666Mhz, But because it is variable unless you view the ram under full load it may show a much slower speed most people look at it at idle. Now when you build a PC you can turn off this crap, so your memory is at it's max speed 24/7. This started with the EPU power saving stuff, we did not have a choice about coming on our Mother boards. HP is enabling this by Law because of some states and their mandate to have this. I am not sure if this is why they lock bios or not.

I've already upgraded to 32gb Ram dual channel, as well as adding a Samsung 870 EVO 1TB SSD. It did come stock with a 400w power supply (L76557-001). The GTX 1650 came stock with it as well and I have been thinking about upgrading to the RTX 2060 6gb you mentioned in several videos. It's under $300 right now... just curious if the juice is worth the squeeze going from a GTX 1650---to--->RTX 2060 6GB?
Awesome video!! I am gonna buy a tg01-0023w and upgrade the ssd and ram since it comes with a 1650 super and since thats the only difference in these computers this helped me out a ton!
Dual channel is very important. If you can get one with 1660ti, it will come with the 400 watt PSU. then down the road you can upgrade. But you could just order the Psu after the fact as well.
Great video I am really thinking about getting this PC as it would be a huge upgrade for me. I have just one question. Can this PC support using a Elgato HD60 Pro1080p60 Capture and Passthrough, PCIe Capture Card out of the box, or would the PSU first need to be upgraded? Thank you.
As a beginner this video is really helpful when it comes to disassembly and reassembly of the pavilion TG01 case. Thank you so much! Great explanation and awesome humor 👍🏻 But still I’m a noob when it comes to parts. My model comes with a GTX 1650, 16GB of RAM, 256GB M.2 SSD and a 1TB HDD Drive. I’m assuming the power supply is the same as in your model (310 watts). Now I am planning to replace the 1650 with a 1660 Ti. Do I need to replace the PSU as well or are there any other things I need to be aware of? Thanks in advance!
@Shell Company it’s still in the PC. Haven’t replaced it yet. I’m probably going for a full new setup with a Ryzen 7 and a RTX 3070 by the end of this year
First off!! Your videos are professional well made. I would have made two changes to yours. First, I would transfer components into a new case like a Corsair SPEC-DELTA Carbide Series for example. Second, I would buy a PSU from likes off Thermaltake, Be Quiet and Corsair. Keep up the great work!!
1. unfortunately, case-swap is a pain in the butt for this, because the mount holes are not the same, and the mobo shape has the usb on the front as part of the mobo :) so it just looks quite insane. 2. for psu, you will need a special adapter, because the power supply does not use the standard 24pin, you will need an adapter, and so far, havn't really seen much of these on the market yet. 3. OKAY, YOU CAN get it to fit in another case, if you USE THE GPU as your MAIN MOUNT, but the power supply is still the wrong size, and won't mount that well either :( case swap, or major component swap for this will be difficult. believe me, i tried, and recorded 2 40+min videos that I never uploaded because it just turned out to be putting the hardwares back, upgrading the ram to 32gb, and installing additional fan in the case, and swapping the gpu to a gtx 1080

Thank you for the video and the recommendations, I look forward to upgrading my new PC following these instructions. My only question is that these GPUs come recommended for a PSU that can handle 500 watts, but you clearly are working with 400 watts. Are these recommendations assuming overclocking the GPU? Sorry, I'm new to all of this and trying to understand as much as possible.
NO, your fine it is a question I get asked all the time. So short answer is it will work, Hp has budgeted for it. Long answer is Overclocking, People adding 3-5 HDD 5-7 Fans and Extra PCIe cards and 1000 USB Devices this all adds quick . One other thing I would tell you to not do is do not charge your phone from the PC. On a Usb C this can take up to 30w away from the system. as long as you never do that you have 60w overhead not 30 because the mobo never use it. Also if you read it is only recommended not required. The motherboard only allows 65w CPU You want a 10-20% overhead for spikes. Getting the 500w will not hurt but is not needed. Also the AMD cards use less then the NVIDIA cards witch is nice.
Hey man thanks for the video !! I change I put an ssd and it’s working good the only things I have a problem it’s when I put my new ram (only 1 of 8) the slot that it cames empty don’t work... like the Pc starts to do sounds and then don’t run . I try to change the ram, like put the new ram in the 1rst slot and the sounds disappears.
I am not sure if the ram is in correct. It sounds like it is having problems booting. It could be 3 things, Not seated right, wrong speed, or mismatch speeds. if you try to put 2 different types memory in the hp it does not like this. You have some options here. #1 order Same size stick of ram and speed. a single dim from HP. #2 order matching pair of 2666Mhz for Intel or 2666Mhz AMD, Some of the Newer TG's can do 3200Mhz. But make sure your can does this be for you order. #3 Size mismatch this is not as big of a problem as it used to be, but I have seen it rear its ugly head with hps pcs. What I mean by this is a stick of one 4Gb another is 16Gb. The HP will not boot. I know 4Gb and 8Gb Sticks will work But when you open wins10 it shows only 8Gb total. if you open CPUz It shows one slot at 4GB and another slot At 4GB. The 8Gb dim will only run at 4Gb. Best thing I can tell you is return what you ordered. So you can get a matching set of ram in both size and speed. I like Oloy and kingston as there stock speed are not XMP speeds. All Brands sell Memory that has XMP so make sure to read the listing. You want to stay away from ram that states it is blank speed With a XMP profile . As you can not access the XMP profile. HP has it locked in the bios. Hope this helps.

The 400w you already have works fine for a 2060, shouldn't need to change it, OEM power supplies have their rating on the safer side. And the ATX/SFX psus you find does not directly work on most prebuilts. If you want to swap the psu anyway you can look for the 500W HP psu.
Also it might run a bit hot, the case can handle about 150-160w without getting too hot. You can look into using MSI Afterburner and power limiting it to about 80-90% as well as adjusting the fan curve, if the PC is louder/hotter than you would like
At this time it is the 2060s. They say there is a 500w Psu that will work, I have not tested it yet. I have 2 on order. I am waiting for them over 6 weeks now. If I can get the 500w PSU. The 3070 now opens up to working inside the TG01.

Were you able to run your memory kit at 3000mhz when you installed it? When I tried to add a Corsair Vengeance 16gb 3200mhz kit (2x8gb) to my TG01-0429, the kit only registered in the system at the base DDR4 speed of 2133mhz. It seems that the BIOS won't recognise XMP ram and run it at the higher speeds. Interestingly enough, the single 16gb stick that came with the PC runs fine at 3200mhz.

You who are my expert, will it makes a big difference if I have an HP gaming TG01 with Ryzen 5 4600g or Ryzen 5 5600g both use RTX 3060 TI? Is there anything I will notice?
If you can the 5600g is a better CPU. The 5600g is better in all realms to the 4600 by up to 25-30%. It has 8 MB larger L3 cache size, witch makes for a faster CPU. Also the 5600g Supports faster Ram. All around just a faster CPU.
I'm just asking for a friend. When adding RAM, does the MHz matter? Meaning, does it need to be the same as what it came with, or as long as it's DDR4 is that all that matters? Thank you in advance for your answer.

The key is mounting the ssd data drive to the back side first and then the std hard drive to the outer side next. If not the larger hard drive will block the mounting holes for the ssd. I will try to provide pictures later.

1. unfortunately, case-swap is a pain in the butt for this, because the mount holes are not the same, and the mobo shape has the usb on the front as part of the mobo :) so it just looks quite insane.
2. for psu, you will need a special adapter, because the power supply does not use the standard 24pin, you will need an adapter, and so far, havn't really seen much of these on the market yet.

More Hz = better response time so yes, Best CPU in the TG AMD version that I show is the 3700x. Until they release a 5th gen AMD TG. They did do a 4000 Ryzen in the TG, the 4000 also have a APU on them witch is a GPU but on the CPU.
Looking at adding a RTX 2070 Gigabyte on mine, gonna transfer everything over to a bigger case but what else do you recommend? I already upgraded the ram to 16 and looking at maybe doing the cpu next to maybe a ryzen 7, what about the motherboard?
If you go with a lager case you will need motherboard, psu and case. I like asus, msi, evga for brands they do sell psu and motherboards msi does not sell psus
Does your SKU have the Ryzen 5? If so are you thinking about upgrading to the Ryzen 7? I’m worried about stability if I OC my RAM, and was wondering if you had heard of anyone running stable at 2933 MHz? I’m going to rock the 1650 until the 2060 is under $400.
I thought about the SSD upgrade, but decided to shuck an 8TB external HDD. I’m happy with the results.
This is a bad idea HP has the bios locked. Ryzen master will do it. But if you end up with a Blue screen or black screen a death HP will not warranty any of the parts. Shucking Is awesome.
@@TNW1337 I figured going past 2667 MHz was a non-starter, but being that I purchased 3200 MHz DDR4 it really got under my skin not being able to use the full potential. I could’ve saved myself $30 if I stayed off Reddit.
@@zeroturn7091 Yeah
My son has a tg01-0023w and said he watched one of your videos and you can put in a 4060 rtx with a 500w power supply part number L05757-800. Is that accurate? Is the 500w power supply need for that 4060 rtx? He said its efficient? Love the videos. Thanks!
Correct
Great video and thx for the work. Just one question: any suggestion for a new fan for the I5 10400? Just bougth the TG01-1207.
Cpu cooler or fan replacement ?
@@TNW1337 Ah. CPU cooler for sure.
wow you should have more subs
Thanks
@technitwit. Love the videos and insight, thank you.
I have the TG01-2176Z and want to replace the 512gb NVMe ssd with a larger 1tb one. I'm not familiar with what kind of replacement I should use, can you recommend one?
Also, HP says this pc has 2 M.2 expansion slots, but I only see the one (used) slot for m.2? I'm probably misunderstanding this.
They call m.2 ssds. that why. You will need to clone the Drive. But yes it can be done.
Yo technitwit, I appreciate the videos since I'm new to pc gaming. I Have a tg01-0023w and ended up getting the asus rtx 2060. What I'm wondering is if I should get a better psu and if it would give better performance? Also if the asus tuf gaming 550w psu is a good choice? Thanks in advance!
You can look into using MSI Afterburner and power limiting it to about 80-90% as well as adjusting the fan curve, if the PC is louder/hotter than you would like
Thanks RS, you just earned always approved comments on my chaanel !
@@TNW1337 Thanks, since I'm using the 11700f+3060Ti variant it's easy to find the limits I guess haha
@@RS-nq8xk Yes very True!
Great video. What is the largest graphics card we can install? I bought my TG01 with an RTX 2060s preinstalled and would like to upgrade. Thanks
At this time it is the 2060s. They say there is a 500w Psu that will work, I have not tested it yet. I have 2 on order. I am waiting for them over 6 weeks now. If I can get the 500w PSU. The 3070 now opens up to working inside the TG01.
@@TNW1337 Thank you for your reply, I look forward to your receiving a 500w PSU and trying a 3070!!....
@@pete9b been waiting for it, hopefully it comes soon.
Awesome! Thanks a lot!

I’m super new, I recently replaced my RAM with this guide and it helped me out a lot. My build only came with 256 GB, and I’m looking to expand, so I can play Baldur’s Gate 3, what do I recommend I purchase to expand said storage and if you could possibly link it. Also, do you have a guide or certain part in this video for installing a replacement SSD that came with my build (it’s TG01 like the one in this video).
2 or 4 TB Samsung 870 Evo
@@TNW1337 ty, also, would I need to buy a fresh copy of windows before I install said storage?
Or would it only apply to the internal ssd?

@32@grau2932, even in disk management>?
About to put a 3080 in mine! Hope it all goes well.
How did it turn out? it probl did not turn on. or the psu took a crap?
@@TNW1337 yeah the 3080 didn't fit in the case and because motherboard isn't a true mini atx or any real size, I had to sell it and start a whole new build unfortunately.
@@paperchaserttv8754 That sucks. are you still looking or did you find some thing?
@@TNW1337 I actually just finished the build like 2 weeks ago, its a beast. Thanks for the reply! Keep up the grind.
really found your video Interesting and helpfull 👍just a question I'm new to all this pc building and upgrading, iv just got the HP pavilion modle TG01-1001na, I was just wondering would the power supply you mention the 400w would that fit my modle? As mine has got a 310w so needs upgrading to run the Rtx 2060 Super, they look the same but I know there is different in ways.
Kind regards iiTzAsbo
Yes it will, the 400 watts Psu can pull around 460-480 Burt's. I can not keep it going for ever.
Don’t know if you still respond to comments but do all tg01’s use the same motherboard? And if so, what PCIe slot do they use?
Yes Pretty much.
Hey, great video, i have something similar to that, do you think a 310w psu will hold a 2060 6gb? I currently have a 1650 super connected to that
did u change ?
Yes, but I swapped the entire pc, and basically only saved the cpu

@@albertex343 dawn, o just ordered a rx6600 and i will used in undervolted to get similar W when compared with a 1650s
Little late but I just keep my side panel off so I can have bigger coolers and a bigger gpu
Interestingly enough, the single 16gb stick that came with the PC runs fine at 3200mhz.
it runs at 2666 some kit will clock to 2133. but it is also veritable.
Flash the BIOS
When you installed your ssd on the cage did already have those two screws? Or did the computer or ssd come with them?
nope, I had to order a PC screw kit
Amazing content bro! Would the OC edition still fit?
QUESTION: If I own the same Hp Pavilion Gaming Desktop and also plan to do a similar upgrade. Do I need to get a new 400w power supply? I thought that it was already included from the desktop. I just want to make sure so that I don't damage the gpu from a weak power supply.
look at the sticker on the PSU not all come with the 400w psu. If it comes with any thing bigger then a GTX 1650 it will have a 400w psu
@@TNW1337 thank you!
Tip: you can use a big flathead screwdriver if you don’t have a torx screwdriver
This has been a great help! I have the TG01-2003w. Set up exactly the same but I actually have the Ryzen 5 5600G and the 5500 card. It seems like it is bottlenecking hard. Really want that graphics card hopefully it fixes it. You think I would be able to run at GTX 3060ti with that cpu and motherboard, power supply?
Yes
I have this same pc. Just bought it and upgraded the RAM TO 16gb (debated doing 32gb because I use it for video editing as well) and the RAM I order isn’t bringing up the performance. The upgraded RAM is running 2122hz clock speed. Did you upgrade the RAM by chance? Looking to find one that is highly efficient. Thanks!
@@aaronkintzle1538 When you upgrade ram on these hps, windows likes to default the speed down to 2100mhz. I had to use Ryzen master to update my ram speed to 3200mhz like the ram kit specified.
did you end up upgrading graphics? i have same pc and wondering what i can upgrade
hey thank you so much for this video! i have a TG01-1070m, will this upgrade work as well? i don’t think there’s any differences between the models, but i’m worried that there might be
Yes it will
Whats you worries that case is the same. the motherboards do change.
@TechNitWit I’m thinking of upgrading to the 32g of Ram. Would you recommend it for this PC? And is it literally plug and play or would I need to upgrade other parts as well? Would love your advice.
Did not work for me, got 32gb at 2400. Looking for a lot that works.
Nope you can just do ram.
@@TNW1337 I got a stick of 32gb and this pc will only see it as 8gb? WTF Went through a million settings and nothing....
@@Evil-Jesus single stick? You want to match ram.
Normal you want to buy a set if you have a 8gb stick & 32gb still it well match the capacity of the lower amont of ram. So it will only show as 8gb.
I have an HP Pavilion TG01-1xxx, it's an intel based PC, and i'd like to upgrade the GPU, but the GPU i already have (GTX 1650) doesn't have a power cable, so how does it get power, and how would i get power to an upgraded GPU in the future?
You will need to get a 400 or 500w psu I have a video on how to get them.
Ok, thanks a lot.
Hello so I have the Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01 and i have upgraded my 8gb ram to 16gb of ram but I was wondering if i can upgrade my CPU from Ryzen 5 3500 to Ryzen 5 3600 or the best CPU that i can upgrade to on my TG01.
Yes you can as long as it is not a X
You who are my expert, will it makes a big difference if I have an HP gaming TG01 with Ryzen 5 4600g or Ryzen 5 5600g both use RTX 3060 TI? Is there anything I will notice?
If you can the 5600g is a better CPU. The 5600g is better in all realms to the 4600 by up to 25-30%. It has 8 MB larger L3 cache size, witch makes for a faster CPU. Also the 5600g Supports faster Ram. All around just a faster CPU.
Hey tnw, I’m planning on going with the same gpu as you the 2060 super would it work with 310 watts or is it mandatory to upgrade to 400 watts?
You will need the 400 watt HP brand PSU.
I'm just asking for a friend. When adding RAM, does the MHz matter? Meaning, does it need to be the same as what it came with, or as long as it's DDR4 is that all that matters? Thank you in advance for your answer.
yes and no most of time it will still work but will down clock the faster ram to slower speed.
You’re bound to JEDEC timings.
BTW there is mounting holes for a ssd or hdd on the front lower wall of the case. Right by your venting on the side
Love the video. Can yoi drop a link to all the products you used. Including the 400 watt power supply
