  • This is the second video in the series where I am building a new pedalboard around a Boss GT-1000 and a Boss ES-8. In this video, I wire and power the complete board and go through some tones. The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

    I await these pedal board build videos more than the last Tool album. Very helpful to me!

    Awesome looking board Paul. Designing the merch graphics to fit perfectly for tele players, inspired! 😉

    Hi, I was looking at getting a gt1000 core but I’m trying to work out what power supply i would need. The manual says it requires 670mA but you appear to have it running from a 500mA isolated output. Have you had any issues?

      The Truetone power supplies have flow power so as long as you don’t exceed the max mA of the power supply won’t have a problem. Cioks power supplies are the same too. Hope that helps

    Great vid! Do you think you will cover the ES8 controlling the 1000-CORE patches via midi in the future? I'm currently using an MS-3 for all of my modulations and time effects with gain pedals in the loops. I want to get a 1000-CORE for the time/mod effects and run it after the MS-3 but control the Core with midi commands (and eventually upgrade to the ES5 or 8).

    Hi Paul can you help a bit more info on the power boss has that the core needs 670mA ? the 1-spot has only 500mA ?

      Hi @NICKY LITTLE and @ nelson vargas. I have the same supply. One of the cool features (I can’t explain exactly why) is that as long as you don’t demand more than the overall amperage provided by the supply, each individual tap can pull more than its rating would suggest. Mason Marangella of Vertex Effects confirms this in several videos. The Studio Rats seem to be able to run this board ok, which is great, because I want to run a similar rig inspired by this video.

    Thank you very much, your video helped a lot. I have a question, to stick the velcro on the gt-1000, did you remove the rubber feet or stick the velcro over them?

    • @TheStudioRats
      @TheStudioRats  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I removed the feet. Cheers

    I also use my ES-8 to control the GT-1000 CORE and it is a match made in heaven. Put my favorite overdrive in front of the CORE and an Eventide H9 into the loop and it is a compact and unnecessarily powerful rig. How was it you were switching from the CORE to an amplifier in the video? That was the one part that I didn't get.

      Hey. Thanks for the comment, I’m plugging the core outputs to my interface not to the es8 so loop 7 is just switching on the input to the core the outputs of the es8 are going to different amps. Hope that helped.

    So the Boss GTK Core works on just 500mA? It's power supply unit has a current output of 2A though.

    Hi Paul. Two questions, what is the size of your board? I dig the size and I will like to order the same one. And with ES8 is it possible by the touch of a button, switch between physical amp, and GT1000, thats super cool. I have also suhr PT15IR amp, and I would love to switch between, GT and PT using the same pedals.

    • @TheStudioRats
      @TheStudioRats  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hmm I’m not sure in the size but if you get in contact with alder and ash and say you want the same as mine. Yes it is possible to use the pt and the gt independently.

    Hi , for some reason my gt1000 core is not responding when setting patches on my Boss ES5... do i need to try different midi cable ? It use to work ok when I had my DD500 plugged into it but GT1000 have TRS/midi cable connection so I hope its just a cable issue

    Hi Paul- great video, I love that board. I'm working on a similar project to drive the GTK Core with an ES8. I had come to the conclusion that I would get the most flexible placement of my own pedals within the chain if I put the ES8 into a GTK effects loop. That way you could use the nice graphical interface in the GTK to experiment quickly and move things around and use the ES8 to re-order external pedals and send the midi signals. I wonder if you tried that and if you had any comment? Cheers Paul

    Hi Paul, how did you get on with the Boss cables? Did you use a tester? I have a setup that includes a GT1000, HX Stomp and various other pedals using a Iguana Tail Loop 2 by One Control to switch. I send everything out to a Boss Katana Artist 2. The cables were frustrating until I learned the method to preparing them.

    • @TheStudioRats
      @TheStudioRats  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jack, yeah the first one I did was a disaster. I think the cables are great. I didn’t use a tester but it all seems to work.

      You can do this with the bigger GT-1000
