Two years ago a lamb was born and orphaned. We brought him inside our RV and bottle-raised the ram lamb who would eventually be known as Leon. He quickly became a part of our family. Working with us, playing with us, and always getting in the way. Eventually, that little lamb grew into a majestically beautiful 300lb adult ram. Now it's time to set some healthy boundaries, finish what we started and make this pastured paradise safe for both ramkind and humankind.

We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.

I can just imagine that each time they complete a 300ft section that they get up the next morning to Leon sat outside the front door.
If Leon figured it out once, he will do it again. He's such a character, but no farm is complete without at least one.
Hi Josh and Erin. The painted fence just enhanced the beauty of your property. If you don't know what to do with the cut-off logs, use them as border lines for your future flower beds. Your family is really getting along well and the kids are growing up much to fast. You guys show the world what real freedom is, where you do the things that suit you. Erin, your videos are outstanding and are getting better with every video. You never get bored watching them. Josh, I hope you have a decent wire puller to pull those fence wires. I have not seen the corner posts but they need to be stronger and properly cemented in to take all the strain of the wires. Thanks for sharing your life with us. Love you guys. ❤
You may be able to trick Leon, as long as he doesn't see any of you walk around the end of the fence and then back up the trail LOL He's a pretty smart boy! That gas powered post driver is DEFINITELY easier than using the manual driver I've used many times in the past!
I grew up doing T-Posts with a driver up in Michigan..I woulda loved that gas power'd one...You hit a gravel bed and could rip right through it with that thing..
I admire how you are able to allow your children so much freedom. In a time of "Karens" it is so refreshing.

I am amazed at how quickly, Leon and your three Children have grown, especially the Little one, watching her climbing trees bare footed, it is hard to believe that she is the same little Girl who used to live on your back.
I know I saw her climbing that tree and said to myself..."That little girl is ALL country"..lol
Ellie is growing up so fast. She is going to be a stunner like her momma!
She reminds me of my sisters and me at her age, living in southern West Virginia. We went barefoot all summer, and snacked on blackberries, and raw veggies from the garden.
The way she interacts with the animals, siblings and parents is priceless.....less not forget NATURE!!. TOP KID!. ❤

What I love the most is you are raising the kids so well... instilling a work ethic, no electronic devices.... They will be so much better adults for it! Just keep them away from Colleges and the indoctrination they bring... I'm guessing Josh would be all in for trade schools.

I really started to love farm life where work is endless and formless. As you could follow your thoughts like water flowing away naturally to start a new project in one day, and the next day you could start another one without worrying what you started yesterday. The big acreages let you easily forget what you were doing days ago.
Wow, that’s a great episode! Leon is the highlight of my week (sadly). I’d love to see a once a month highlight of different personalities of your videos maybe your daughter next she’s an angel.

Spring, always so much to do on the farm. It's almost like having to start all over just to catch up where you left off. I can remember planting the garden with Grandma, Granny, mama, and the aunts. What a sight,5 women herding 11 kids aged 2-7 to get a straight furrow plowed and planted. The old workhorse was both a worker and the entertainment at the end of the day, riding all around the farm. Dipping our feet in the creek was a highlight of late spring and summer. It was a connected life. We were connected to God, each other, and the land. I really miss those days.
That upside-down post is a good place for a blue bird house.

Your family has been able to put in place a infrastructure that without any unforeseen catastrophe should be able to sustain your family for very very long time all while, and in my opinion helping to create and some very responsible young people, your children. Josh and Erin you are truly a powerful dynamic husband and wife team! Just wondering if you had always been aware of the specific direction that you wanted take in this life and how you wanted to raise your family. After all this time I still think that the of you are a very amazing couple and probably will be able to accomplish anything that you might set your minds to get done ✅

I grew up in your mountains and watching you work outside brings my wonderful experiences of smelling the sweet scents of spring, the crisp crunch of the earth and the way the shadows dance at dusk all come rushing back in a beautiful nostalgic rush of grand emotions. Another great video! Leon's so funny! Can't believe how small he was in the beginning! Unbelievable! So I take it the Ram (ramming) thing is in their nature despite him being hand reared etc..? If so definitely need a fence up for sure 300lb anything is no joke!

My jaw and stomach hurts from all the smiling and laughing during this video. I loved the attitude of Frank riding in the side-by-side watching closely while Ellie rides the 4-wheeler, Ellie riding the 4-wheeler like a pro plus climbing trees barefooted (growing up so fast), Leon's resignation being cooped up with his head on the bottom railing, the cow thinking it's a big yard dog with the needed head scratching, Hayden and Carter's work ethic, Carter enjoying the new truck, Josh's hard work and Erin's best video to date. Keep up the great work and enjoy the life God gave you.

Maybe consider driving the metal posts in by placing the down end in the location and putting the hammer on the other end, then standing the post verticle and hammering. This way, you're not lifting the hammer high enough to get over the post. Much easier.
I don't have a fancy powered T-post driver, but I do usually lean the t-post over so it's easier to get the manual driver on the post. I enjoyed the vignette of Leon's history. I guess Leon is kin to Shawn the Sheep.

You should consider taking a few trees down to keep the fence strait. If there are bends that arent supported the fence will lean if you tighten the wire.

If you have trouble with Coyotes or stray dogs you might look into getting a Burrow or Donkey and let run with your stock they are very protective of other critters. Just a thought stay Stay Safe
And, donkey will alert you of predators too!

We absolutely love our gas-powered post driver... We are on Rocky ground, so we often have to use a four-fluted SDS masonry bit, to get pilot holes. Otherwise, it sure makes life easier.

Leon has become the icon of WWO-G. Frank rides in the UTV like he owns it. The love you show your animals and the personalities they show back reflects that they are also family members. I'm amazed how you've taught your children how to distinguish between family animals and those that get processed for food. Even little Miss Ellie casts such loving adoration to all animals that watching her interactions with them warms ones heart.
You guys have a awesome life. Love your house and farm. You both are great parents and that will help your kids out so much in their adult lives.

Take it from one who has put up a lot of fencing ,to save those posts so they don’t rot even if they are pressure treated they still will rot, from the top get some flex seal in spray cans and just spray the top .wood acts like a straw and through the seasons runs down into the post and rots them not quickly but with this cap of flexseal you won’t have that problem I’ve used everything from hackberry trees pressure treated lumber Oak and the best of them will rot but this simple trick will make them last twice as long .you have a great videos love your show just a thought to help make it last longer less maintenance is more time with the family.

I have done the same thing and it does work. Use it for all posts now.
@@richardlug6139 I know I’ve done fencing for a long time and the tops act like sponges sucking the water down inside ,so the stain and paint though they help the outside don’t do anything for the inside. yeah I hope they see it they’re a great couple their parents should be proud of them they are doing what needs to be done for themselves as well as the kids so that the kids will do the same and hard work never hurt anyone.
@@Mike-hr6jz you are right, this was why postcaps became a thing. Even when made of cross grain wood, they help reduce this process as cross grain sheds water better.

It is so much fun watching your family work together while at the same time having fun doing the job at hand. I think that the mini truck will pay for itself...that and the fun factor makes it a very worthwhile purchase.
It is so neat to see the children participating more in the creation of your home. Carter and Hayden have stepped in to help before, but now Ellie is carrying supports and helping and Carter is really that third man needed to deposit needed goods at locations.
I love watching your vlog-watching your home (as in the entire 73 acres) come together and your children grow, and the love between the two of you that continues despite setbacks and being together 24/7.
