Dead standing also mean's- seasoned !! That what you have to have with the wood stove. Scary to take down BIG tree's, even dead one's, but better then them falling on the power house or your home. Had a cousin who was killed by a Widow Maker. He was out cutting a trees down for firewood, and a branch came down and crushed his skull in. Yes, the legend of the Widow Maker is true and still kills lumberjacks to this day.
The next time you encounter a tree on your property like the widowmaker, put a long rope around it and pull it toward the direction in which you want the tree to fall with the tractor.
The thing I liked most about this video is how behaved and smart your kids are. Not many kid the age of those boys would be trusted to build a fire by themselves. I love seeing that there are still real men teaching there sons to be men.

I understand that filming, editing, etc is a lot of work, maybe your oldest son could take charge of filming, moving tripods, etc. And later on even do editing. Agree with Erin that Josh didn't instill much confidence as he approached the tree cutting. Especially when he started cutting the side that was already tilted back toward himself.... So glad it worked out well! Those pizzas looked beautiful! Great job!

You guys are so inspiring...like sunlight breaking through the clouds. Got a suggestion you may want to toss around. Since your powerhouse is the heart of this adventure and hardwork, and with Joshes commercial contracting connections, maybe it would be an idea to build a framework of steel beams around that structure and a preventitive measure to deflect any trees from smashing it in a storm almost like a cube of steel as preventitive...healthy trees fall too. Just a thought.
How can you say no to such a precious little angel....I can't even say no to my dog when I get those brown (mommy please give me a biscuit) eyes!! Just watched the tree cut down....We had an Oak Tree 3x's that size and it still looked alive but after several hurricane threats we had it cut down. The inside of that Oak was the same as your tree....Completely Hollow inside!! So glad we cut it down before it fell...

That first stump that is rotten out would be good to fill in w/ top soil and plant flowers in next spring, Ellie is so damn adorable
