I have one (Subaru) and love the car - never had a problem with seating position and the steering wheel - in fact it’s the most comfortable I’ve ever been in a car. It does qualify for the $7500 tax credit under a leasing option. The horsepower is fine with me - how fast do we really need to go? I can pass anyone. I looked at a Tesla Model Y and couldn’t do it for another $150 per month. I’m pretty happy with the Solterra!
Just leased our first EV ever "premium" trim 24 Solterra yesterday(9/10/24). Kinda stumbled into it. We were looking for a used small SUV for the wife. Apparently the dealership had an order for 100 Solterra Premium units by the State of NY, but NYS cancelled the order and got vehicles from out of state! So now the dealership is doing the best to sell/lease them. Good deals on them. As of this posting, we still haven't learned all the options yet but we're having fun as we go!!!
I have a 2024 Solterra Luxury Package and absolutely love it! I also have no issue with the squircle steering wheel and the adjustment to see the display.
@@pablocruise7680 While I would definitely recommend the vehicle for that distance and if there is enough charging infrastructure where you live, I would not recommend it for your age simply because they are priced to high right now. Unless you are in Canada. Here, we still have 12K government subsidies and a 5k manufacturer bonus. This makes the price far more digestible, especially if you have a trade in. If you have home charging, it makes it even more viable. Personally I drive a lot in the city and once a week I have a medium trip of 250 kilometers (one-way). I have a few days in between the to and fro medium trip, but my Solterra takes this in stride and makes each trip quite enjoyable.
I got a great lease deal on the limited. Can get the tax credit applied when you lease. It’s a great daily driver for around town. If it didn’t have a great lease deal it would be less appealing for sure.
sorry this reviewer doesn't know what he's talking about. car is quiet, more than enough power, steering wheel is squared off so you look above the steering wheel at the screen. It can also do off roading, can a Tesla do this? Nope. ..
Yea it will go so far with that clearance hahaha it's barely higher off the ground that my Mustang lmao. 6.5 zero to 60 is very slow even among turbo 4 cylinders. The ev bolt which doesn't even have a dual motor Or tesla just rwd anything stomps it with excess on demand power. For what your paying it should be atkeast at competitor levels. Just bought Solterra Touring in June, there is no tax credit for it, only apply 0% APR for 72 months installments. However, if you lease a Solterra limited, there is a $7500 OFF from the MSRP. Only for limited trim at the time when I bought my Solterra. No tax credit for Solterra since it is imported from. JAPAN.
It’s funny that he criticized the ground clearance. It is the one way that this car is competitive. I also think the cladding around the wheel wells looks terrible. I agree with the rest though,Toyota gave this a small battery and two small motors, giving this car a unique combination of low horsepower and low range. Probably a fine car for around town if you get a good deal, I am certain that Toyota doesn’t want to make or sell many EVs at this point. Not sure that Subaru did enough to separate this from the Bz4x.
Fun fact: a squircle is actually a technical term for a square with rounded edges. But yea I don't like it either. Oh and as far as maps, for google maps always choose to download offline maps. '25 Equinox EV, Blazer EV, Hummer EV, probably nothing from GM is getting NACS in '25 either. You are stuck with the adapter. GM fault, Tesla fault, who knows.
I considered solterra, but it is like subaru was just throwing random ideas together without considering how they worked together. They are so far behind the ev world.
It has an Austin allegro steering wheel which British Leyland termed as Quartic , this was back in 1973 and by 1977 it had gone back to a normal shape steering wheel. It was probably the least bad thing about that car considering how shit that car was !
The pricing reflects that they were not prepared to enter this category cause who is spending this much on a subcompact vehicle outside of a BMW or Merc!?

it's a decent EV and any EV is better than any gas car. But as far as EVs go, there are better options, that's all I'm gonna say. As far as the HP numbers they don't seem to matter at all due to the torque band, as it's an EV. It's fast af off the line.
This car and the Toyota variant have to be the worst EVs currently for sale. Yes, they improved the charge times, but there is absolutely no reason to buy this over anything else out there. Unless they are giving you this car for free, buy or lease something else. Anything else.

Just leased one in Washington state for $189 no out of pocket. Touring msrp 54750. Washington state has a $9k ev rebate on top of the federal 7500. Basically free so I said yes.
Just bought my 2 mos ago. Not satisfied with my buy. SOLTERRA takes eternity to charge. From 5% to 100% took me 2 Days and 4 Hours. No wiper on rear windshield w/c makes visibility zero during rainy days. I dread the coming winter especially since I live in Chicago. I wouldn’t recommend this one.🥲
