Thanks for watching our review! ⚡🚙 Does the NEW Ford Explorer’s 374-mile range make it the ultimate family EV, or is there a better option out there? Let us know your thoughts below! 👇
what annoys me most is quoting bs official figures, 374 miles from a 77kwh battery, no chance, that averages out at nearly 4.9 miles per kilowatt which is way better than any tesla, not a chance a heavy brick is doing that
Entirely possible that every car on dealer lots in cold climes will have a heat pump, but they don't want to advertise a higher base price, so it's nominally optional.
Great review what gets me with people hating EVs if you want an EVS get one if you don't don't what is the problem with them everyone has the right to choose what ever they want
Surprisingly positive. I test drove this in the UK a couple of months ago. The interior is cheap and plastic-y having borrowed so much from the universally derided VW ID range. It's crap, in short. The mach-e is streets ahead in comfort and quality, and two+ years old. The Explorer is a poor comparison and overpriced vs competitors such as the mache, EV6, and the polestar 4. Bonus points for Jonny Smith making a brief appearance 😂
8.15 mins i test drove one of these loved it but the glare of the dash top dash was just awfull its so reflective ..plus the info tablet is just soooo distracting its way way to big !.. went with the vw instead as thos etwo items were a deal breaker
The only fault I find with the Explorer is trying to install the front seatbelts. This must be challenging. Also, it's a shame that the heat pump isn't standard equipment but an expensive option!
There is a better option out there. It is called the Renault Scenic. It is better looking has better interior, better dash and is way classier. That's not to say the Explorer is bad its just not great and its already two years old tech wise. Even VW have gone from the haptic buttons.
Ford demand the touch heating controls are back lit parts than old kit from vw and also demand they put 4 window switches on the drivers doors than these touch buttons combo from id4
I have the all wheel drive had it 2 weeks and think it’s a great car and so far I like the haptics buttons yes occasionally my palm hits a button on the steering wheel but still very pleased with the car
Super detailed review definitely looking like the range is what it should be of minimum of 300 miles especially in winter weather which is the down side of a ev vehicles the Explorer seems to be the one I would choose if and when I would consider buying a ev vehicle
Needed a real world efficiency bit in addition to just quoting the theoretical range of 372. Im guessing like all evs it’s probably less. Circa 290/300?
i drive a diesel car, range is subjective to quite a few details, (including weather, tyre wear, tyre pressure etc) and one of the most controllable, how heavy a drivers accelerator foot is!! my 1.6 diesel ibiza with a 5 speed manual gearbox, it has a 45 litre (approx 10 gallon) tank with an estimated range of about 600 miles, i dont get 600 miles as i have a heavy right foot, occasionally i can achieve over 60 MPG (if i do 56-58mph on cruise control on the motorway, but i get bored), at motorway speed in 5th looking at about 56MPG but i tend to get an overall average about 50MPG so that would equate to about 500 miles to a tank. so in real terms i'm getting about 83% efficiency, 300 miles from estimated 372 miles equals about 80%, not too far apart are they? now 290 miles would mean down to closer to 78%, 280 miles equals about 75%, now those figures would be dissapointing.
I'm sure this'll be a good car as the ID cars are great and it looks like the interior has been improved a bit...and I like Ford...but I can’t really get past the price when compared to other cars on the same platform, it seems £5-10k too expensive.
It amazes me that the EV haters, talk such shite, and who probably have never driven or owned one. Having owned and driven the Mach E for very nearly three years. I can say with all honesty "Don't knock it if you haven't tried it" Been charged overnight on my drive/next to the house almost daily. No fires, no fuss, no problem..
@@dragangasic5680 not necessarily a house but atleast a charger point at you home and or work, i know a few buildings with flats/apartments with chargers available for occupants with allocated parking to charge their cars. as there was a grant here in the UK to facilitate the chargers.
the mach E is the correct name for that car, had they not called it a mustang or the new SUV a capri ford would be more popular. the mach E does look a great vehicle, its just a shame that ford dont actually listen to their own customers, dont use classic named vehicles for the new cars, thats was just plain lazy of ford!! if i didnt have such a long commute to work (120 miles each way) i would be tempted, as charging at home wouldnt be any sort of issue.
It's a awesome car and way better than a id4 all the way and some point also with the q4 and enyaq. Still waiting for mine in January 2025 in Magnetic.
Ford have got a real problem. Their vehicles are increasingly indistinguishable from any other mid-market players. I didn’t understand what was ‘fun’ was that VBH mentions. The acceleration? Most EVs deliver on that metric. Ford is going to have to properly strategise a portfolio offer for Europe. In the mid market they’ve been beaten by Renault and the Koreans and in the budget sector DACIA are untouchable. Thinking caps dear Ford, thinking caps.
But they also are trying to sell the mach e and the so called capri, they are all around the same price. Aren't they just going to take sales off themselves?
Ford's navigation system is not worth a CR_P. I needed to go to the next city for a doctors appointment. I live very close to a main 4 lane highway. As it goes to my destination. It changes to a 4 lane divided highway. Then I exit it onto a 4 lane divided expressway. Finally I exit onto a 4 lane main road through the city. Last turn I am less than a mile from mu destination. Every quick. My return was to city 10 miles below I origin. My friend who live there. He told me a route to his house. I missed the route number to his place. I punched in his address into Ford's navigation. It showed his address. Hit tapped "GO". A blue line showed up on a route. I followed it through all the secondary streets and all the stop lights. Where did I end up. I was at the junction where I exited off the 4 lane divided onto the 4 lane divided expressway. From a simple express travel to a complicated city streets.
I seriously doubt it will go for 300 miles. With all that electrical stuff in there. I doubt it’ll do 100. All of that capacity is to lug itself around. EVs should be small and light. Why waste power on all of those things. Electricity still comes from somewhere. If you want to be eco friendly, just stop wasting energy on electric seats for crying out loud.
Like all EVs , far too much tech . Paying for loads of stuff do not need and will not use much and considering will sit parked most of the time , what is the point
So it really has 300 mile range at 80% , still that is fairly decent. Love the colour, it certainly blue my mind and looks ok too. How long will all that needless tech work though? VW shared components! My car has wind up windows!
Its now like buying a laptop. Would you like one with an acer badge on the lid, or maybe Toshiba or even HP? in reality they are all the same so it comes down to the badge.
Why do EV vehicle manufactures always bullshit on range? Real-life driving always destroys their silly claims, putting other would be punters off. Not as I would want one anyhow, I like my house and attached garage as they are lol.
I much prefer the current model styling, but this is growing on me a lot. Problem is I don't want an electric car, so that is the end of that for me. Why not have a petrol engine, when there is such a lack of interest in electric cars, to only offer it in electric form seems crazy to me.
Ford ecoboost engine problems with wet belt issues are an ongoing problem for Ford at present so perhaps they didn't want the Explorer to add to their problems
There’s plenty of interest in electric cars and demand for new ones is still growing albeit at a slower rate of increase. The secondhand market is on fire but the kicker is many new EVs are still too expensive. Overall car sales have actually reduced due to the depressed economy. The Explorer, although pricey is probably the most appealing of the Ford EV offerings in the UK, having good practicality, styling and range. The Mustang Mach E doesn’t look like a Mustang and the recently announced Capri which shares the Explorer underpinnings is hideous and sacrilegious! A sub £30K electric Ford Fiesta/Puma replacement is what’s needed but Ford like all legacy automakers are struggling.
@@markbennett6658 Ford, like many other producers, are struggling due to their own stupidity. Ford stopped making affordable top-sellers like the Fiesta, long before the world was ready to switch over to EVs. Consumers are left in a no-man's land where they can only buy very expensive EVs, or cheap Chinese junk. All the good cars are gone and buyers are not buying. I'm hanging on to an 8-year old Fiesta for dear life, because there simply isn't anything like it, to replace it with!
@@MrAndyj007 “Expert analysis shows prices on forecourts to be 8.5% lower for EVs; helping drive huge surge in used EV sales” that’s from Carwow. I actually have been in the industry previously and the affordability criteria is what pushed me to get an EV in 2023. Perhaps you’re not doing it right?

Every importer defines their own packages. In colder climates it may very well be standard on the packages offered there.
£40+ for a car with plastic seats? That's another off the list when it comes to replacing my current EV

VBH you are wonderful. British small roads and parking spaces don’t need more ego maniacs in massive SUVs.
To FORD American bosses compared to the F150 this is a cute little European car.
This is not a massive car. Smaller in length than most estate cars and not that tall (helps with aerodynamics)
If you bothered to actually go and look at it you would find that it is not a very big vehicle
I don’t want a SUV, sorry to not conform. VBH is great though.

What are the insurance costs? What is normal temperature operating range. How far will it go in freezing weather?
