    I've been looking for like an hour online for a solution to fix a dent in an aluminum kayak paddle handle and this is the only video that had a simple solution!! Thank you!

    Great work ... thats the way we used to do it and it works great . Better than spending 80 dollars on the brownells tool . Good investment for future use but this gets it done .

    Now that is Yankee ingenuity. Also good for removing magazine spring retaining cap dents for mag extensions.

      Love my all my shotties but I have to say the yankee ingenuity needed to improve my 870 is not needed on the mossberg. Ppl have their opinions about both brands but I got my mossy used without owners manual and only had to watch the disassembly reassembly video once. I've never been mechanically inclined and it's fun learning to work on guns but the 870 is much more finicky than the mossberg. I consult with the owners manual every time I have to disassemble beyond basic removing the barrel to clean.

    honestly. im glad i stumbled apon this video. have an older 1897 with a rather nasty dent in the tube. Didn't even CONSIDER using tools and an extension. going to give this a whirl tomarrow

    I have read this also works to remove the crimps on the newer models for the mag extensions.

      The other popular method is dremel/drill because some ppll have had the sockets get stuck but that's loading the tube with sockets rather than taking a wrench with socket attached as shown here.
      It can be done with a (properly aized/shaped) file but I looked this up because it's painfully slow and I'm not sure how well it will work anyway.

    I’m about to have to remove the dimples in my magazine to add on an extension and using sockets was how I thought of doing that. It’s a great idea. I didn’t have an idea of how to extract the socket if it got stuck though, now I do. Thanks. Sure glad I stumbled across this video.

      @@OldGuyDIY For just a minute there, I thought that you were about to create a permanent socket/extension storage compartment. Good job, and quite ingenious.

      I did this to remove the dimples. I had to beat around the outside of the mag tube a little so the barrel would slide over it. It’s a little tight when it slides over the mag tube but a little bump with my hand and it goes over it. Shotgun performs great, no problems at all.

      @shannonfritsch6647 Sorry to necro your comment but I also want to do this to my 870. Did try this method and did it work for you?

    • @Whitchhunter666
      @Whitchhunter666 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Megalink82 no never did it. I just stuck with my original tube configuration, couldn't justify it for one more round, and the price for the part. But I think this is the best way to do it after much researching. Good luck to your mod

    What if I need to disassemble the magazine for parkerizing as new? What tool do I need?

    • @OldGuyDIY
      @OldGuyDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the the magazine tube is brazed in place and not intended to be removed from the receiver. I suspect it can be removed with heat but am unsure if the heat would discolor or damage the receiver. I suggest Parkerizing the receiver and magazine tube as one unit. Good luck.
