The Blacks Grieve One of Their Own in 'House of the Dragon' and son to son Season 2, Episode 2

Following Lucerys' death, the other side of the conflict is far more dispersed. Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) determines he will take it upon himself to fly to King's Landing and kill Vhagar if necessary, while Jace finds out about his brother's death while still at the Wall, hanging out with the Starks. But he can't decide on his next move by himself, so he enlists the help of his cousin Princess Rhaenys (Eve Best). Naturally, two dragons are preferable to one, particularly when facing a dragon as ancient and legendary as Vhagar, but Rhaenys declines the offer to partake in an action as hasty and foolish as assaulting King's Landing at this time.She and her dragon, Meleys, are worn out after flying over every body of water between Dragonstone and Storm's End to protect King's Landing from the Blacks' blockade. Using their talk as an opportunity, Daemon claims that this tragedy would never have occurred if Rhaenys had burned the Greens to the ground on the day of Aegon's coronation.
To some extent, he's not incorrect, but the main source of Daemon's annoyance appears to be the fact that Rhaenyra is currently choosing to wallow in her own sorrow rather than take vindictive action to avenge herself as a queen. Right now, in fact, she's riding Syrax about, searching for any evidence of her son's or his dragon's body in the aftermath of their fight with Vhagar and Aemond. As Rhaenys cleverly notes, before taking any decisive action, Rhaenyra must be absolutely certain that Luke is no longer there.
Her flight path eventually takes her to a beach where Arrax's remains have washed up onshore. However, the public's natural reaction to a dragon landing close by appears to be panicking, giving Rhaenyra enough room to explore what's trapped in a fishing net for herself. Her worst fears are realized as she finds a dragon wing and barely enough of Luke's clothes in the tangle.Even Syrax lets out a howl that reverberates along the shore as she joins Rhaenyra in grieving for her son. When the queen finally returns from her hunt, all she has to say to her council is that she wants Aemond Targaryen's head. When Jace gets back from the Wall, he hardly gets to finish telling the story of how he worked with the Arryns and the Starks before mother and son collapse into each other's arms and begin to grieve their mutual loss.
