    It does seem massively risky Mythic selling those bundles. If a backer who hadn't paid the ransom just ordered it, then charged back on their credit card saying it never arrived, and just claimed the copy that did arrive was their crowdfunded copy... I can't see Mythic having a leg to stand on honestly.

      @@Dstinct oh no, don't say nothing arrived, that would be fraud. I mean just assume that the copy that does arrive is your much delayed KS copy (as they seem to be identical) and then claim for the other. I can't see any good way they could defend that claim.

    Rainbow Six Siege could be the best board game ever made, I wouldn't buy it from Mythic Games. they already more money from me than they deserve, since I bought the all-in for Anastyr that will never arrive. This game, plus my bad experience with Limbo: Eternal War, has pushed me out of crowd funding games. if I have to spend a little more when they get a full release, buying from a store or backer who no longer wants it, I'll do that. and sometimes, you get amazing deals that way! I got the all in for Massive Darkness 1 and 2 for 200 bucks a month ago. that would have cost me well over 600 if I had backed both games.

      What's wrong with Limbo, their doing better then other creators in the space like Stormsunder. Their last update literally shows actual mini's in trays and sure their late and don't update as frequently as they should, but personally I am actually having the opposite experience and are happy with Limbo compared to others.

      @@CheddahSlammer the game is extremely delayed, but work on the rulebook and unit cards are still ongoing. Banestar had a live stream a few days ago that was supposed to be for proof-reading, then after it ended made a post asking people for names of abilities. Just boggles my mind that this stuff is somehow not locked in when its multiple years delayed. Maybe the problem is interacting with the discord, but often times you get more up to date information there than in the infrequent updates.

      @@fitzgigler Maybe its just me, but for me their at least updating us on progress even though its slow. I have one project I backed in 2019, lack of updates, last update was in 2022. Website down, no knowledge of ever getting the game. Another one backed in 2020, had no updates since 2023, had to do some digging but found out the sol creator died, their fore their hasn't been any updates. Never will get the game for that. Had another one were the creator told us he needed to spend the kickstarter money on medical bills so were not getting our games. Lastly had Holy Grail games just go bankrupt and leave all the games they made in the Warehouse. So for me it doesn't seem as bad because I had much worse.

    Getting the item cheaper later on happens at retail as well. I have picked up multiple games at 75-90% off. Clearance happens in most industries. If a business closes it’s pretty much guaranteed.
    Crowd funding to me is more about the wait and the initial risk of it not being made at all. Without exclusives or the game having no plans to go to retail there is no reason to back.
    I think a lot of people, myself included, have backed more than they should have and not tabled items enough for the retail discounts to not feel bad.

    • @TheKingofAverage
      @TheKingofAverage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is true! The difference between these big games however is usually the retail version is different. That's the original intent for crowdfunding exclusive parts I feel.

    I paid nearly 1500 Australian dollars all up for my 6 Siege as a backer. It's a fun game but but 1500 worth of fun, and to see excess copies so cheap that I paid to have manufactured infuriates me.
    I've ceased backing anything, I'm just waiting for anything I've backed to deliver and strongly feel the crowdfunding games industry needs to collapse and not come back. There are games that wouldn't exist as you pointed out, but also there would far fewer exploited consumers.
    These game companies deserve to be held financially responsible and suffer real-world financial consequences, I don't agree with people giving Leo death threats but I also don't agree with him waving it around like a shield against criticism. I hope they suffer very serious very real consequences and their future employment prospects are harmed by the mismanagement of funds and trust.

    I think Game Brewer probably wanted to keep their good reputation by ordering the minimum of even under funded games to make sure backers were taken care of first. Maybe not the best financial decisions but you gotta pick one. Can’t have your cake and eat it too with struggling companies. They either care about backers or surviving. Can’t be both in that situation.

    If the incidence of scams and non=delivery gets high enough that people stop backing, Kickstarter will start to care. Also, if a court takes notice of the Kickstarter business model (the "rewards are not guaranteed" verbiage) they will care then, not until then though. They are like a casino. People scuttle in, leave their money, and scuttle off. The only difference is that Kickstarter gives you the opportunity to participate in the grand social experiment of posting comments and assuming anyone is listening.

    Backers do seem to get the shaft with regards to crowdfunding. Backers interaction with a company through crowdfunding is transactional in nature but they are taking risk in the production and company as if they were an investor. It's like investing stocks in apple with the hope of eventually getting a new laptop. But since the laptop doesn't exist at the time of placing your order your have no guarantee other than promises made by the company that you'll someday get it. It seems the more savvy people become with this kind of relationship the more they realize that often the risk isn't worth the possible reward. Some companies do it well but I feel like a lot of them don't. Mix in a few that are out right scams and it can leave a bad taste in any backer's mouth.

    The problem is with 6 Siege, when they did the ransom they said they are only making enough for the people who paid. Yet they have a bunch to sell on their store. So did the people who paid pay for this stock as well as their own pledge? Even if not, there are a bunch of backers who have already paid for this game (and VAT and shipping). Mythic are just scum.

      They produced what they needed, but of course they have extras. They would need extras for parts, but also you generally produce in runs (e.g., 1000, 2000). So if you have 1700 backers, you order 2000 copies. It depends on the factory and the product, but there will almost always be extra copies as a result.

    • @KapteeniKetza

      If you have (for example) 10 000 backers u order 11 000 for some extra backup if some packages goes missing or is damaged. Then if from those 10 000 backers half gets refunded then suddenly you have surplus extra 5000 copies to sell.

    I live in Canada and have had to back off my KS habit because of shipping costs. I have all of Mythic Battles Pantheon and Ragnarok, but am only in for $1 for Isfet because I can't guarantee I'll be able to afford the shipping as it always changes between the campaign and the final price. For me, shipping fees eat up any and all savings I might have made through backing a project. Any game that I know will be available after KS/Gamefound funding I now wait until it's commercially available because I will be saving all those shipping fees.
    You seemed a little down in this video, man. Hope things are going well.

    Well, to no one's surprise on the "table." Perhaps I am petty, but I would let KS know, again, on the update with a snarky little "told you so." And when the table folds, pun intended, ask them what they are doing to ensure integrity. But, I have no platform so they'd just ignore me.
    Then again, KS has ALWAYS been that way. They don't care if something doesn't pan out. Yes, it is part of the risk of new starts and why honest people NEED CF-ing, but when something was so obviously false, how could they allow it to go through?

    • @PRC533
      @PRC533 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They could allow it to go through because they get their cut right off the top of the funding and then completely wash their hands of it. Because they have no meaningful competition for crowdfunding outside board games, there is zero incentive for them to care.

    ive said this many times. backers ARE NOT valued as they should be. theyre simply not. need proof?
    every company tells you how theyre different because they value you. how they will be the ones to appreciate your business and faith. not that other company, them. theyre saying the quiet part out loud. they know how much cheaper they sell these games to retailers. they know how much theyll make on their webstore. they know its marketing bs.
    only the smallest teams really appreciate it, and theyre likely not in a position to truly show it. these companies with teams of artists, marketers, designers, managers, and videos showing them off at the end of campaigns......arent broke.
    backers are mostly foolish. their favorite companies are likely the worst offenders in terms of exploiting their fans for max profit while offering huge discounts to other companies who also want in on profiting from your business. thats how thankful and appreciative they really are.
    when you can very often get your game cheaper, sooner, and without risk from a 3rd party than by directly supporting the creation of the game, it kind of outlines the severity of the problem. numbers dont lie.
