Usually true, and then there is Incan Treasure, the revamped version of Diamant.
The original is completely devoid of any 'woke' issues, being thematic but placed is some random place with jewels and treasures, has cute little boxes to hide the accumulated score of a player until the end, and adorable character names that wink to Clue. Incan Treasure: you are looting historical artifacts from a known civilization and you have nowhere to to hide your loot, so the press your luck game becomes meaningless around round 3-4/5. They also got rid of the 'treasure' mechanic in Incan Treasure for some reason.

I find myself being drawn to games that have some character. Because of that, it keeps feeling like I'm have to go to older games to find it, like the original Santiago, you know the African version. Great video, it will definitely upset some publishers, but hopefully, they're humble enough to think about it. Thanks as always.

Had the original 1986 Fireball Island growing up, lost it, then nostalgically reacquired a few years ago. It's still a blast and we break it out here and there because it's simple but chaotic. Got the new one and then sold it shortly after...all they needed to do was maybe make the island bigger (keep the same classic paths) add more unpredictable routes for the fireballs, maybe more bridges/traps...not added complexity, tokens and card crap. Completely removed the fun factor!

I knew Puerto Rico would be here (and deservedly so). FYI, after more than two years, corrected copies of Puerto Rico 1897 can finally be purchased in the UK as of Feb 2024 - I grabbed one recently because I never owned the original, but I've been waiting ages for non-f*'d copies to finally come into circulation. Oh, and the only way to tell a good copy from bad old stock is that they (the corrected ones) are not shrinkwrapped, and they've got these little clear circular stickers sealing the box closed. Their handling of this will certainly make me think twice before making any future purchases of Ravensburger products.

Arkham Horror 3rd - took a general thematic board game and made it scenario based since that is what Fantasy Flight has inadvertently turned their Lovecraft stuff into.
Betrayal at House on the Hill - the original game was very random, but now it's very streamlined. Also while they did clear up the process of splitting into Traitor & Heroes midway they still have goofs about who knows what does what. There are also less scenarios and stupid ones. WTF wants to go to a creepy haunted house to just end up cleaning it for better resale?

It's not awful. It's a nice surprise just as 2nd Ed. there are some non dangerous Haunts of Buried Treasure or Ghost Playing Hide & Seek. But in a post Woke/TDS/GamerGate world (2016) where every new cartoon inserts a "Prom" episode or DnD's latest setting is working as baristas in a communist utopia; cleaning house in 3rd Ed stinks of something disingenuous.

I was gifted a copy of the new Castles of Burgundy. It was from an unexpected friend and it means the world to me because of that. It's also my favorite game. That being said: I still have my 1st edition copy because the one thing that most gamers haven't tired of, but I have is BIG BOX SYNDROME. They whine about the size on their shelves but for me...the REAL problem is the ability to take it with you, the amount of set up and the amount of space it takes on a table. CoB, again, is my favorite game but I do face hesitation when picking it and I'd almost never throw it in my game bag to take somewhere over the other copy. My goal to saying all this is that it's not all sunshine and roses with these big box deluxe versions and I've never wanted to be someone who glosses over the negatives of even things I love. :D
Also...for Spartacus...I also have the full game and I highly suggest keeping an eye out for the deluxe version of a game called "Flow of History" people will sell it for cheap and it has the PERFECT small metal coins that are thick like Roman coins would have been. Get a few sets of those and it helps not have sweat infused cardboard coins! HAHAHA!

But I too think it is absolutely insane to pay 200 € for the Deluxe Version! When you need a replacement outer box for BSG let me know. I'll include the Broken Token insert. Both on the house. I also have the Exodus Expansion box that I can send along which will double your fight against the ravages of time. I bought the wooden LaserOx insert and outer wooden box so I'm safe for hopefully my lifetime and have stored the extras. My BSG core box isn't Mint but the Exodus box is near mint. That said I suspect my BSG core box may be better off than yours but I would wait until I receive a nice Awaken Realms packaging box and re-use it to ship these off to you. Their packaging is beyond ridiculously good. I guess if anyone local in your area has been storing these empty BSG related boxes it may make more sense for them to pitch in before someone tries to toss these across the seas your way. Just to be clear, this is just an offer to help you with empty boxes and storage inserts not the actual game material. That said you might appreciate doubling the shelf life of your BSG box. Of course if you follow my footsteps and get the LaserOx box...you would be in the same boat I am in. Sorry I tossed Pegasus and Daybreak. Others in my boat may have kept all 4 boxes for display. I'm guessing quite a few people may be out there with extra BSG boxes as a result of Broken Token and LaserOx storage.

Interesting list. Cyclades might fall into this category as well, but i hope not. At least i don't own it yet.
Eclipse 2nd was good for us because we wouldn't have gotten 1st edition. Just flew totally below our radar. But i understand all your points.
For me it's Mage Wars. With the reprint they split the gane into two different games (arena and academy, an easier, watered down version). But you could still use academy in arena and it just got very cramped and confusing.

So refreshing to find a boardgame channel that stands apart from the usual bandwagoning nonsense that this hobby has devolved into. While not a 2nd edition, TI4 sucked me dry from ever wanting to play anymore TI. Unless somebody asked me to play TI3, which they don't, because it is against the moral code to play previous editions of anything apparently.

I think Kemet got worse with the art, but better with the balance. They also improved the consistency of the iconography (even though it mostly got uglier). Also, you got it wrong about the minis, they're bigger. Unfortunately, the map isn't really scaled to fit them as bigger, so in cities (with the pyramids) they barely fit. The game also incorporated the Ta-Seti tiles, and some of the rules that were unique to that box. It didn't incorporate the Path board though. B&S is basically like buying Kemet + Ta-Seti.
B&S is both better and worse, which does make it a bad second edition. It seems like when Matagot pivoted to crowdfunding, they basically shit the bed. They're just not putting out quality that justifies the price tag for these products.

Space Hulk didn't need a 2nd edition. Everybody who knows about the differences between 1st and 2nd edition agrees. Then they went and made a 3rd/4th edition, which is better than 2nd, but still not as good as 1st. Although those map tiles and blip counters are fantastic, even if they warp too easily.

I can see why publishers go for reprints as it's a lazy way to cash in on a popular product, but I think in most cases these reprints annoy the core fan base rather than amplify further interest. Personally I'd prefer them to make a sequel and offer something mildly different (extending the story, blah blah), rather than void my version of the game and replace it with a more expensive reprint.

Disagree with #8 its vastly superior in the second edition, #7 I prefer the unfathomable theme, #4 THE FIRST EDITION IS UNPLAYBLE YOU ARE CRAZY WRONG hahaha bollocks indeed! #1 is so much better than the first one I've heard, and its alright but it still ain't TI4. Also its weird to say board game creators shouldn't work to make their games better, which is basically what you're saying about Eclipse, could say its a bollocks opinion haha. :P But I get that you'd be pretty pissed seeing a whole new game released after you got all the expansions for the first edition. No I wouldn't because I got all of TI3 with all the expansions and then got TI4 because it was streamlined and way better!
    I don't know about #9, #6, #5, #2. Never played them.
I like that you just go with your opinions though, gotta respect that. you're a good one, good videos.
