    It says something when a business specializes in 6.0 Diesel repair but uses a 7.3 for all the grunt work!

    So glad to see this video. I am working on installing a Mishimoto 6.0 trans cooler into one of my 7.3l F350 bucket trucks and hoped to find a hose kit for the fluid. I had a transmission shop put one in one other truck and they piece-milled adapters and hose sizes to make the cooler work. I will now be ordering two of those Mishimoto hose kits to keep my trucks operating. Thank you for sharing so much valuable information.

    I have a 2007 F3 50 with a 6.0 L engine and I installed the MishiMoto transmission oil cooler and I also had this back fit which is a 7.3 L mechanical clutch instead of the electronica clutch for the fan installed and it made a huge difference when I’m pulling my 30 foot RV up and down the hills in the Pacific Northwest. Thank you Bill for all the knowledge and experience that you share online.

    If it slows it down to cool it in the 1/2 what does the rest of fluid doing in transmission getting warmer so I do agree with larger cooler keeping temps low but slowing down does not make sense

    I bet replacing the stock 3/8 inch lines with 1/2 inch lines all the way from the transmission to the cooler would help too, less restriction means more flow through the cooler and less friction pushing the fluid through the lines, so less heat generated too.

    Hey Bill about a year ago you mentioned you would make a mishimoto 7.3 tranny cooler upgrade video, and here it is! I did this upgrade to my 02 excursion 7.3, and added temp gauges. I dont know what the temps were before, but with mishimoto 38 row cooler the gauge averages 60 degrees above ambient temp not towing, and 80 degrees towing my 30 foot enclosed trailer. I wish I knew how much the temps dropped. I also added magnefine transmission line filter, and a spal push fan. Thanks for making this video!

    For those who care about the technical specs. The 6.0L cooler is a 26 row cooler, the HD cooler from Ford is a 29 row cooler. This cooler is a 37 row cooler. As far as I can tell, this is just a 6.0L direct fit unit, the only thing that makes it 7.3 specific is the special hoses.

    • @everyonelovesfriday2045
      @everyonelovesfriday2045 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      EFormance Engineering wasn’t there two different 6.0 coolers? I used the smaller one in my old 7.3. Also it needs 180deg temp to flash off the moisture out of the fluid especially if you live in a gulf state

      Of course it can, use as many Motorcraft and other quality parts parts as possible, VERY GOOD machine work, and you're there. The cost will be high but if the body of the truck is good and money is there for it then it's a definite yes! Sometimes it's cheaper to keep her.

    IMPORTANT QUESTION...
    Great video, quick question, I saw a video a while back of a trans cooler install. The guy put the cooler in upside down on purpose. His logic was that with a much larger cooler the trans doesn't have enough fluid pressure to reach the top of the large cooler since fluid enters from the bottom, so by installing it upside down the fluid will start at the top travel throughout the whole cooler with gravity.
    Does this make more sense?

  • @mdacton
    @mdacton 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Will this work ok on OBS? hot days mine runs 210 pulling 28ft enclosed 10k

    • @eformance
      @eformance 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The OBS grill area is a lot different than an SD. The OBS doesn't have an intercooler and the stock/HD trans coolers are "half" style that fit on either side of the hood latch assembly. The SD cooler sits really low down behind the bumper, where the OBS just doesn't have the same doghouse height. That said, if you've got time and inclination, you could probably make it fit.

      It's a 6 liter replacement cooler that's why he said 5r110 and the reason why you need those hoses (or 1/2 to 3/8in adapter) is because 6 liter uses 1/2 inch line you will find that radiator under 5r110 (which is 6 liter)on the mishimoto website hoses are rerouted a little too I haven't worked on excursion. if you look under 2002 (7.3) ford f350 you will see the cooler he talks about. It fits on your excursion.

      This cooler was released years ago, what I can tell from context. My local distributor (RiffRaff) shows them for sale on their website. The price is about $100 more than I paid for a Rockauto 6.0l replacement cooler and about $15 less than the "bro deal" price on a stock 6.0l cooler from Ford.
