    Upgrading the OEM transmission oil cooler on your Ford 7.3 Powerstroke diesel truck is one of the best upgrades you can do. The OEM cooler is tiny and is known for not being able to keep the transmission oil cool during heavy towing and hauling. I upgraded to the Mishimoto oil cooler and noticed a significant decrease in transmission oil temperatures!

    *More 7.3 Powerstroke diesel upgrades! This is probably the BEST upgrade I've done to my F250 so far. The Mishimoto cooler significantly reduced the transmission oil temps!*

    I installed this trans cooler last year and couldn’t be happier. Towing my enclosed trailer during summer months I typically see 160’s on temps. Towing from Ca to Ne highest I got to was right about 200, briefly coming out of Reno.
    Great upgrade, great video.

    I slip a piece of cardboard from the box in there to protect the AC condensor during the install. Those fins are so easily bent from the inside when doing this and that blocks some of the airflow.

      Awesome! I'd be curious how it impacts your truck temps as well. It made a big difference for mine when towing, probably the most significant upgrade I've done.

    I've done 3 of the 6.0L coolers, and I find it much easier removing the grill and bumper, it's 6 bolts for the bumper and 4 screws for the grill. At what point did you realize the passenger side mounting tab was bent. or to me it looked bent. I know my way of doing it adds more labor but it gives you so much more room to work.

    • @TheBTRGarage
      @TheBTRGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's good to know! I thought about removing the bumper/grill but just gave it a shot according to the Mishimoto instructions. I noticed the bent mounting tab before I started working on the truck, but after the scene in the video.

    • @894charlie
      @894charlie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've done a few and have seriously considered removing the bumper and grill since those little fins cut me up every time. I bleed on every one. Lol.

    Awesome vid. I started collecting parts before the Mishimoto kit, but will be installing the 6.0 cooler on my '00 F-350 soon. I see you have the added cooler in the radiator, my truck is older and does not have that. At slow speeds there's not much cooling for my trans right now.

    • @TheBTRGarage
      @TheBTRGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! This was probably the single best upgrade I've done so far, made a huge difference in trans temps (lower obviously!).

  • @hyakkimaru6709

    Does it matter which orientation the new mishimoto lines go in? Like does the driver side line have to go to the radiator or does it have to go back to the transmission?

    This is awesome! Any increase with your engine temp since this blocks a bit of air flow to your radiator?

    • @TheBTRGarage
      @TheBTRGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nope, everything else stayed the same. This allows air through it so it is not really blocking much to the radiator.

    One thing to consider is that if you use the fancy hoses that are 3/8 at one end and half inch at the other, it might become complicated if one of the hoses blows when you are on a trip. If, on the other hand, you use a 3/8 hose, connected to an adapter, then to a half inch hose, you can get the necessary replacements at any auto parts store.

    You skipped an important step that's not easily figured out. The two cooler hoses are held into a double plastic retainer that's not easily visible or accessible. Without opening both retainers you'll be pulling forever to get the cooler out.

    You also have a cooler in the radiator. It is the two hard lines at the bottom of the radiator. I left mine disconnected when i installed my cooler. If that cooler would fail then it could fill my radiator with transmission fluid
