One of the funniest things regarding Minilla is that he was playable in Godzilla Generations for the Sega Dreamcast, unlocked by beating the game with Zilla. Having him walk through massive buildings, smash the military, and battle the three Super-X warships with his radiation rings was hysterical.
Despite the fact that some fans don't like it, on the other hand, I really enjoyed *Son of Godzilla.* When I was a kid, it reminded me of my father's tough-love. To this very day I still have a soft spot for this film.
I suspect most people who say they hate this movie are just transferring their hatred of Godzilla's Revenge/All Monsters Attack... and don't want to admit them got weepy during that final scene.
Grew up on Godzilla movies, and this one held a special place in my heart. Particularly because my insane crush on Saeko Matsumiya's, "Riko" character made me realize at a young age I had a thing for asian girls. Fast forward to today and I"m happily married with a Filipina woman. Godzilla changed my life.
When I watched this movie it was interesting and Riko matsumiya looked hot in her swimming dress and the long hair style like I can’t stop looking at her when I watched the movie
I didn't even realize how often I was watching it until my wife pointed out how often I have it on. God bless her for putting up with my viewing habits. Just yesterday she said she wanted to spend time with me and "cuddle" (which I hate). So how did she convince me to do it? Easy. She said, "Bring one of your Godzilla or Friday the 13th movies." That did it!
My dad and I first watched Son of Godzilla on a Saturday afternoon back in the early 80s. He remarked that Minilla looked like Gary Coleman from Diff'rent Strokes. Since then, I can't unsee it!
Beverly Maeda's smile is like the first sunrise after a long, arctic winter. And I've seen more recent pictures and she's still just as beautiful with the same wonderful smile.
Hello Big Action Bill! Thank You for uploading Your video for the Keiju Eiga movie "Son of Godzilla". In Germany, the movie was titled "Frankensteins Monster jagen Godzillas Sohn", in English "Frankenstein's monsters are hunting Godzilla's son".
I cry a little every time I watch the end of *Son of Godzilla.* The music and the scene are so touching. The point when Godzilla truly becomes Manilla's father.
I cried at the end too, but I also cried when Minya saved Godzilla from the spider. That whole scene can be summarized as follows: -Get away from my son, you a****hole -Get away from my dad, you a****hole
Great research bro! They should have definitely designed minya to look more like his dad in previous films instead of what we got. Despite this I think this one is a good entry as well with it's great jungle miniatures and kaiju puppet/marinates. Keep up the great work!
One thing I thought was quite funny was that there were two instances during the final fight where Godzilla hits Kumonga on the top of his body (once with a rock, once with his breath), and during these times Kumonga flips over, in a really unnatural way. Because of that, my brother and I had a running joke that Godzilla was hitting his 'Flip' button
My second favorite Godzilla movie behind "Godzilla vs the Sea Monster." I do NOT claim those are the best; just my own favorites. (There's a difference.) This one, for instance, is a movie I can put in my Blu-Ray player anytime, regardless of my mood, and enjoy it thoroughly. The pace is quick, the characters are memorable and likable, the story is just the right mix of science fiction and monster mayhem... And in spite of what is often said, the monster effects are actually very impressive!
As a kid, growing up a Godzilla fan, this was one of my favorites..You whach these movies, cause its just fun to relive a piece of your childhood.Sometimes its just nice,to get away from the reality of life..
I was just browsing around TH-cam for Godzilla content and came upon your video, and I have to say, you just earned yourself a new subscriber sir. SoG is definitely one of my favorites within the Showa Era due to seeing it as a kid and just having fun. Also, I absolutely agree on the waifu comment cause Saeko was just mesmerizing. 👍
You said something to the extent of *I can't bring myself to hate a godzilla film* I feel that sentiment with this It's not my favourite but I admire all forms of Godzilla 💜🦖🖤
I"m so happy! This movie is heartwarming but I am completely ready for my favourite, the king of all kaiju movies, Destroy all Monsters!! Anyways, great video and originally I didn't like the wait between videos, but if a short wait makes great videos, then I forgive it. Also as you good sir, I suffer from aracnophobia and the final fight is very satisfying. The soundtrack is very good and I would give this movie an B+.
I have a personal theory that Minilla is actually a frog-like monster who's species convergentally evolved alongside Godzilla's species. Which explains his more frog-like face and clumsy movement.
Another awesome vid!! 13:14 the actor's description of having to film this part is hilarious because I was thinking how scary it must have been to film some water scenes while watching this lol... If you dunked you dunked
This had one of the best scenes in the showa Era though. When Manilla and Godzilla start walking in the snow, and he falls behind and falls. Godzilla turns around to go back and they hold each other until they go into hibernation.
Wow, I loved this movie. The crew slowly warming up to Maki was great, Saeko was a charming character, the relationship between Godzilla and his son was genuinely heartwarming, all the monsters outside of Godzilla and Minilla looked great, Godzilla’s beatdown of the mantis trio was awesome, the suit actor for Minilla was clearly having a blast and the Father-Son Kamehameha…er, I mean, the Father-Son Atomic Breath was an awesome way to bring things full circle at the end. Combine all that with great pacing that never left me bored and this is one of my favorites of the Showa era as well (so far). Super charming Godzilla movie. EDIT: Oh, and the experiments the team was doing on the island and their goal of solving future overpopulation I thought was interesting as well. Takashima really sold it at the end when all their work finally paid off and he started to get emotional. EDIT #2: Ayyyyy I just finished the video and you made the Father-Son Kamehameha reference too! Great video.
Love all these videos but I wish you would reupload the original short versions you did. They're great and help fill the void until your next masterpiece...... Unless those videos never existed and I'm remembering something that didn't happen. Either way, great work!
I happen to like this movie aswell. I have it on vhs. This was my second Godzilla movie my first one was Godzilla vs the Sea Monster another favorite of mine. Thanks for the video I enjoyed watching it.
I love this series so much, I can't wait for Destroy All Monsters. I'm in pain knowing how long it will probably take to get to 1971's Godzilla Vs Hedorah, I REALLY want to know the thought process behind that one!
Oh hell yeah this was one of the first Godzilla I remember seeing. It'll always have a special place in my memory. Also lol @ "for you" that'll never be not funny
This film along with Godzilla x Mothra x Mechagodzilla Tokyo SOS and Godzilla vs King Ghidorah 1991 are the three films I grew up with. What a wide range of Godzilla films to grow up with. It's only when the internet started to be a thing where I discovered Cinemassacre's Godzillathon that there is a ton more Godzilla films. Though most people hated this film, I have a soft spot for this film; every time I see a light source behind a tree in the distance I will, I wouldn't say get scared but be reminded of when this film is teasing Kamacarus early in the film
I'm right there with you ole Top. Those Mantis creatures are fantastic, and the film has some continuity and plot. Best, or worse? Definitely the needle swings toward the best side.
Hey bud, as a Godzilla fan I can honestly say, The Son Of Godzilla is my favorite Godzilla movie lol. So no worries, but yea people either see it high or low, but I’m on the high rating side for this one, it’s not like it’s Godzilla’s revenge which I don’t hate or anything lol, but you know that one is silly. Thanks for the fun facts btw. Great stuff
Good pacing, gorgeous women, colorful setting, fantastic kaju, hilarious moments...I feel like this one gets a bad rap. It's easily the most watchable showa-era film imo, and one I can watch with my whole family.
If Kumonga was hard to control, I wonder how hard it was for them to control the destoroyah crabs in 1995. Also this movie was the first of a couple things, one was the first godzilla's son, and the second was the first fire battle, except instead of two beams it was godzilla's atomic breath versus kumonga's webbing, which godzilla lost that battle despite it being one of the longest fire battles except maybe godzilla and mechagodzilla 2's fire battle. So thats just another pretty interesting fact.
The red pages of the artbook you showed as the end looks *haunting*, full on cursed. Good review though, was never really a fan, but I'm glad we can laugh at the same parts. Me personally I laughed a little too hard at Manilla getting DECKED by a rock that I got looks from my friend.
One of the funniest things regarding Minilla is that he was playable in Godzilla Generations for the Sega Dreamcast, unlocked by beating the game with Zilla. Having him walk through massive buildings, smash the military, and battle the three Super-X warships with his radiation rings was hysterical.
Dude, I freaking love your content. The research, and passion you put into each upload is astounding. Never stop posting.
Same
Agreed
Love your retrospectives, dude, keep them up! :)
Thank you! Your "The Evolution Of Godzilla" video is amazing!
Yooo
Despite the fact that some fans don't like it, on the other hand, I really enjoyed *Son of Godzilla.* When I was a kid, it reminded me of my father's tough-love. To this very day I still have a soft spot for this film.
I loved this movie as a child too. I also appreciated the father/son dynamic between Godzilla and Minilla
I suspect most people who say they hate this movie are just transferring their hatred of Godzilla's Revenge/All Monsters Attack... and don't want to admit them got weepy during that final scene.
@@OllieByGolly - Well said. You spoke the truth perfectly.
I just hate the 1967 Godzilla suit....but I love the soundtrack.
@@OllieByGolly When I watched this movie as a kid, the final scene made me cry like a baby
I rewatched the Son of Godzilla movie tomorrow, It's definitely one of the most entertaining and fun movie of the Godzilla Showa Era series.
That Scene At The End Still Gets To Me After 56 Years. 😓
Same here...the scene of Big G and Little G hugging each other in the snow actually touched me as a wee lad.
Same here. A lot of Goji fans who didn't like the movie were nonetheless touched by this scene.
Actually is more emotional now that I'm an adult.
''Godzilla looks fucking nauseating in this movie.'' - Phil Leotardo, 1967
lmfaaaao. You've given me no choice, Phil will be making an appearance in this series now.
Grew up on Godzilla movies, and this one held a special place in my heart. Greatest post of all time
Godzilla is an Absolute inspiration!!
W mans
With you man, this is probably one of my most rewatched Showa Era Godzilla films. It’s a fun one.
I didn't even realize how often I was watching it until my wife pointed out how often I have it on. God bless her for putting up with my viewing habits. Bill, you deserve a ton of credit, and a TON of subscribers for the content you provide!
This was the first Godzilla movie I saw as a kid in the 90s so I've always had a soft spot for it and Manilla is cute
Kumonga wasn't a favorite of mine until I saw this movie and I loved how intimidating he managed to be.
My crappy day just got a bit better! Thanks for making these.
I've only just watched the movie and, as a father myself, I can't help but enjoy it.

Damn, you have made my love for this movie restored, all of the hate I saw got me thinking "ima start moving with the crowd", so thank you for bill
As a kid, growing up a Godzilla fan, this was one of my favorites..You whach these movies, cause its just fun to relive a piece of your childhood.Sometimes its just nice,to get away from the reality of life..
You know this really wasn't that bad of a movie. I gets a really bad rep but I like it. My son and I watch it all the time.
Loving these Godzilla reviews. Makes me want to go and pick up some books and read up all the history of behind the scenes of these movies.
Love these ones! Great job man!
Oh man imagine if they bring in Kumonga in the Monsterverse everyone with Arachnophobia will be freaking out lol
Ohh yeah for sure because I have extreme arachnophobia.
I swear, once all these videos are out I'm doing one big marathon.
Just discovered this series and I’m blown away! Dropped a sub and can’t wait to watch more!
Keep it up with these videos! Love them all!
Your Godzilla series is FANTASTIC !!!!!!!!!
Man you make my day with these videos! thank you good sir! 100%
finally your videos are the best if you ever wondered who it is thats watching them all the time its me

Son of Godzilla rips. Colorful, fast paced, some likeable humans, and a nice fully fleshed out arc for Godzilla.
Son of Godzilla is one of the best Showa movies. Underappreciated as hell.
omg I just asked about this movie! Thank you! I have great memories of watching this movie with my dad. Your channel is awesome
I really love hearing the process and info of all these movies. Knowing more about them makes me feel more closer to what was.
You said something to the extent of
*I can't bring myself to hate a godzilla film*

love all these Godzilla video's BAB!
I always listen to your Godzilla movie videos while making stop motion 😁
I have a personal theory that Minilla is actually a frog-like monster who's species convergentally evolved alongside Godzilla's species. Which explains his more frog-like face and clumsy movement.
Not a bad theory, just like how Titanus Doug from the Monsterverse is rumored by some fans to be a more primitive relative of Godzilla's species.
I know exactly what your saying when there's weather involved when there fighting. Thanks for sharing!
After binging your reviews I started binging godzilla movies that i hadn't seen yet😅✌
Great video about a great movie 👍. I saw it in cinema in the early 80s. Greetings from Germany.
Another awesome vid!! 13:14 the actor's description of having to film this part is hilarious because I was thinking how scary it must have been to film some water scenes while watching this lol... If you dunked you dunked
I came back from Wikizilla’s MV Godzilla profile and this pops up in my feed. Crazy day for me
The thought of Ishiro Honda feeling a disturbance in the force as this was being filmed is so funny to me.
Great video! :)
I love this movie. Minya is still my fave Godzilla character. Thank you so much for a great review!
FANTASTIC video (and series)! Thank you so much.
This was my first Godzilla movie I watched in my life
Such a great series am new to your channel but so glad I found it. Best goji channel by far
YES! FINALLY PEOPLE ARE STARTING TO REALIZE THIS MOVIE IS GOOD!
New to the channel, love your godzilla history content, hope for a future shin Godzilla content (fingers still crossed for a sequel)
I really liked watching this movie with my dad. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best. But it was perfect for spending time with dad
Thank you, Big Action Bill!

I watch these old shows on Australian TV late at night.Bibari Maeda was a stunning actress.
very interesting, great video
Hell yeah, I know what I'm watching later tonight! Can't wait to watch
These are the definitive Godzilla movie videos.
A favorite of mine of the Showa era. It's not the best but enjoyable. And that ending was touching.
Great job Bill as always.
I can just listen to your voice all day 😌
lmao, well I can't but damn that's nice of you to say.
@@BigActionBill 🤣🤣 I just watch your channel on repeat all day! Imma start doing Ultraman reviews now! Ur an inspiration 🙌🏾😌
I'd give anything to just talk over some food and a cigarette with these 60s 70s era Godzilla staff. They're all gone though.
Seeing this video drop made my day!!
Awesome! Love. Your videos
I happen to like this movie aswell. I have it on vhs. This was my second Godzilla movie my first one was Godzilla vs the Sea Monster another favorite of mine. Thanks for the video I enjoyed watching it.
I found this movie to be over hated. I love the insect monsters, the story is heartwarming, and the effects are solid.
Excellent work
I love this series so much, I can't wait for Destroy All Monsters. I'm in pain knowing how long it will probably take to get to 1971's Godzilla Vs Hedorah, I REALLY want to know the thought process behind that one!
This was always my favorite Godzilla movie.
Fairly new to Godzilla, but when I watched Son of Godzilla for the first time I loved it, I thought it was hilarious😊
My Mother’s favorite Godzilla film. Whenever I binge Godzilla films, she ask me to play Son of Godzilla.
Showa era is best era.
Oh hell yeah this was one of the first Godzilla I remember seeing. It'll always have a special place in my memory.
Also lol @ "for you" that'll never be not funny
Using Persona 5 music in the background of your Please Stand By frame card
A man of culture
I'm so hyped for Destroy All Monsters next! My favorite Goji movie!
My third favorite Godzilla movie.
Destroy and vs Mecha are my 2 favorites....then this.
Godzilla said I must fight for my own battles though.
That was the first Godzilla film I ever saw in my life.

That intro was pretty good
I love Kumonga, nice simple idea that works
Good pacing, gorgeous women, colorful setting, fantastic kaju, hilarious moments...I feel like this one gets a bad rap. It's easily the most watchable showa-era film imo, and one I can watch with my whole family.
Please make a Gamera Hesei era video!
Honestly one of my favorite Goji Movies
This movie is a damn classic lol. Loved it as a kid.
If Kumonga was hard to control, I wonder how hard it was for them to control the destoroyah crabs in 1995. To this day the four new monster figures that are brought to us from both movies Kong and son of are the costly ones lol
