    The fact that Destoroyah was so powerful that they filmed an alternate ending where he and Godzilla waged war until they both died just further certified that he is my favorite Godzilla villain ever. He pushed Godzilla further than anyone else and had it not been for Burning Godzilla's boosted power, he likely would've killed him and then wiped out all life on Earth. It's almost Doomsday-esque in a way like how Superman and Doomsday also fought until their own mutually assured destruction.

      Look, I can understand why it's sad to see the People who created the Franchise leaving this World is heartbreaking, but you are aware that the King of The Monsters have murdered thousands (if not Millions) of innocent people for no Reason all throughout the Heisei Series?

    • @seantaylor424
      @seantaylor424 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@davidostapenko2578 To be fair, the Godzillas (both the Heisei and 1954 ones) are victims of humanity's warfare and constant meddling; although the nuclear weapons weren't made by Japan, its warring ways are what brought those weapons to its shores and it did plenty of bad things of its own, which the Ghidora movie talks about. Most of the people killed by the Godzillas were innocent (which is why the Zillas are still villains), but their civilization still caused all of the suffering both monsters endured without ever trying a peaceful solution with parties that were incapable of comprehending their ways beyond, "Trap Heisei in a volcano and hope it never gets out," to say nothing of Heisei frequently only returning to Japan because it was roped into things it wanted nothing to do with (and saved humanity from threats it was incapable of dealing with). The Godzill series is always a tragedy because both sides are wrong, but both sides are also right.

    Still gives me chills too. Godzilla is dying, he knows it, his skin is melting, his blood is boiling, he's on his last gasp, but he is going to make damn sure that the bastard who killed his kid is coming to hell with him.

  • @Va-purrr-eon
    @Va-purrr-eon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Years and years later, Godzilla’s death still makes my heart clench. I remember being utterly devastated as a kid watching him melt away- it was almost like watching a friend die. Along with that, Destroyah’s first attack on Junior was so gruesome to kid-me that I had to turn away until the fight was done. Even though Godzilla was mostly an antagonist up until the end of the Heisei series, I didn’t want to see him get hurt and hoped he’d be able to live in peace at some point, haha.
    This movie is awesome and bittersweet, and I completely avoided it after my initial watch as a kid because it made me so depressed to see Godzilla dead and Junior without his dad. Your video on this movie happened to auto-play, and it’s a fantastic look at the movie and everything that happened around it and during. To top it off spotlighting the core group of people who made this monster who he is, and made a friend a lot of us carried through childhood and up to adults even now.
    It’s closure, in a way- seeing Godzilla’s death again, Junior inheriting his father’s power, and a thank you and goodbye to the men who made so many good things and achieved so much. Again, a fantastic video, and a cathartic one to watch as I go through another Godzilla kick

    Man, I'm just catching up on your History series. Blew through the whole Heisei series in two days. Incredible work! You show the reverence these films deserve, but aren't afraid to call them out on their weak points.
    This has never been my favorite Godzilla film, even in the Heisei series. Outside of the last act, I'm not a huge fan. I still like it, but not as much as many of the other films in the series.
    I get why people are obsessed with it, I've just never been. Part of me feels bad given the weight put on it as the end of Godzilla, though. I cried hard when I first saw this film. I didn't get to see it until 1999 when it was released in the US, but I was 18 so I didn't know where else I could have gotten it. The end still hits and I still cry when Godzilla dies.
    Further rewatches have softened me a bit to it, but I still prefer all the Heisei films over it barring Space Godzilla.
    10/10 on the video, though.
    Also, Happy Birthday to Akira Ifukube who would have been 106 this year (his death anniversary was two days ago - 2/8).

    I never was much too interested in Godzilla but this series is turning me into a fan. I really want to watch all these movies now. The amount of historical context you give is extremely interesting and this series is super entertaining. I love all of them so far. But I can't find the Ebirah video!

    Maybe it was because I could tell that the bigger suit was used for the final shot, but I always assumed that it was the main Godzilla that returns in the final shot in a phoenix-esque fashion, not Godzilla Jr. Either way, the final moments of this movie gives me chills every time, and I definitely still tear up at the end.

    An interesting fact about this film is that Toho, in an effort to increase profitability, actually gave this movie less money and less production time than any film since biolante. As a matter of fact, they only had six weeks to build all the miniatures, and only 3 weeks post production. Toho demanded the film be ready by a certain date and they actually ended up editing in some shots that had not been fully composited yet, which greatly irritated koichi kawakita. The film was also due for one more run through the edit to tighten it up more, but Toho locked the production down so the version you see is in many respects still not the final version they were editing for. In spite of all this, it deserves its reputation as one of the greatest Godzilla films ever with some of the most striking visual effects.

    This video made me tear up hard. Godzilla Vs Destoroyah represents the end of so much. Not only is it the end of the Heisei era, the end of Akira Ifukube’s career, the final appearance of the first ever female lead of the Godzilla franchise, it would represent the death of an icon in Japanese history and culture.

    I finally found a way to watch all the Heisei films subbed and in decent quality (since the first four are OOP and insanely expensive) and so I could at last view my blu-ray of Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. I was a little worried my expectations would be too high due to this film's positive reputation and I'd be let down, but wow, it blew me away. I like how it took itself seriously, even more so than most of the other Heisei films. I'm in agreement with you that Godzilla's final march gave me goosebumps. I love how they just let the music play and let Godzilla march virtually uninterrupted as it really sold the feel that this was the finale to this series of films. Also, that version of the march has always been my favorite, yet I had no idea it was in this film so even though I already knew the basic plot, the movie still found a way to surprise me.
    For me, this is easily my favorite Heisei film and it's now in my top 3 Godzilla movies altogether, right along with the original Godzilla and Shin Godzilla. I desperately hope some type of Heisei blu-ray collection comes out because it's really worthy of it. Anyway, thank you for your effort on this video; it is a great companion to the movie.

    Regarding the conference rooms being named after Toho Monsters, here's another fun fact: when I worked for a business hosting solutions company, Sunrise was one of our customers. All of their servers were named after various mecha from UC Gundam, and I once got a service request to reboot the Qubeley.
    I'm guessing this must be a trend for entertainment companies in Japan.

The scene when appears for the final battle still gives me goosebumps also and the death scene reminds me that there's something in my eye. I think it could have been more tear inducing if you played raymond bur's final speech from 1985 before junior's appearance at the end.

    17:57 They made Godzilla appear in Hong Kong because they wanted him to ravage a city he hadn’t been in before. I think they chose Hong Kong because it’s a really big city and is perfect for Godzilla to tear through.
