Got a great tip from Charles Rush. In the video I am showing removing all of the screws on the disk. Charles pointed out that you only need to remove 3 of the 6 as long as they line up with the disc removal tool's holes.

you can do that with the cassette still on the freehub too.

Not sure if Neo 2 is different to Neo, but I don’t need to take the cassette off my Neo 2 to get the free hub off….

You don't need the Tacx special tool. A 4" washer with three 5mm holes drilled into it which line up with three of the six bolts in the drum ( you don't need to remove all six bolts to remove the drum). Get yourself a standard three arm pulley puller and that's it. The washer only cost $3 from Fastenal which every location stocks them so no added shipping cost. There is no reason to remove the drum unless abnormal sounds develop then and only then would you want to pull the drum.

While you certainly can use other methods to remove the Disc, Tacx specifically states that "This small tool is especially developed to open your NEO yourself while staying within the terms of your warranty." In other words, while you probably will not do any damage with other tools as you suggested, you may void the warranty.
      tacx.com/product/neo-disc-extractor/
Also Tacx does mention removing the disc "in order to check the inside on residue and clean if necessary". With the amount of use some people put on their trainers, it's always a good idea to do a more in depth maintenance beyond just greasing the EDCO or New SRAM/Shimano or Campy body.
When I opened mine up it was super clean, which is great, but I have only had the trainer for about 3 months. I tend to be a heavy sweater, so my game plan is to do a thorough cleaning every 6 months.
You are correct though that if you hear some abnormal sounds, you should definitely have a look.

Also thanks for the tip on just having to remove 3 of the screws instead of all 6. I thought for sure you had to remove them all.

Tom Crandall I work on machines for a living for more than 22 years now. Basically what that part of the Neo is is just an electric motor, plain and simple. Nobody pulls motors apart just to clean them. I've seen motor internals that were totally packed with filth and they still run fine. In my opinion Tacx should only distribute that tool to people who filed support tickets and were verified as needing it. As for warranty, I probably have already voided mine because I had to cut out a piece of the plastic cover so my Sram WiFli derailleur would clear and let me shift to my lowest gear. In my mind anybody who pulls the drum apart on their Neo it should void the warranty.

Hi, I've tried this service operation including cleaning inside without result. When I lean to the left, the sound and vibration stops. When I lean to the right the magnets hit the coils inside the freewheel. Do I need to change the bearings?

    • @GearMashers
      @GearMashers  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kjell,
It doesn't sound like changing the bearings will resolve your issue, since the bearing housing would be the same. What appears to be happening is the axel and disc aren't set right and there is some play which allows for movement. I think what you're going to have to do is contact Tacx direct and talk to their technicians to see if they can help you resolve it. They may even want you to send the trainer in.
You can also post to the Tacx FB group to see if anyone else has had that issue and how they resolved it.

I figured the problem, the axle was loose. According Tacx support its av warranty case.

I like to use Phil wood waterproof grease (amzn.to/32C9Gbi) for all my bike parts. I currently have the Wahoo Bike and I greased all the parts to it. I have had the tube for years and it still seems good.

I tried to find out on the Tacx site and it doesn't appear they have the specifications. Since Garmin purchased Tacx, the support is now handled by them.
support.garmin.com/en-US/. You can email Garmin, but they might not get back until after the holidays. My contact there is on vacation.

I ordered a disc extractor tool, but it doesn't slide onto the shaft?

I am not sure. I didn't have that issue. I would contact Tacx Support to see what they say.
