Please let me know how that wood stock holds up, Mike. Very interesting. The concept is excellent (although I would be interested in the .223 version). Being able to use existing PMAG or STANAG magazines from the AR15 would be a huge selling point!
Yea absolutely! In .223 ar15 magazine bolt guns, It appears that Mossberg's traditional stock rifles have similar issues, however the aftermarket has off the shelf solutions for it. If you go with a Mossberg with a metal chassis system they have an ar15 style magazine catch. Alternatively you could look at Ruger's predator ar15 magazine bolt guns. I haven't gotten my hands on one but it seems the button is kinda tucked away under the stock too.
Also. Mike, you're an engineer. Could you add a mag release "extension bar" that protrudes slightly outward of the stock? Like you, I'm concerned that even with the cut-away you've added, in cold weather winter ops that mag release will not be accessible.
Yea i'm sure I could fab something else up. I think this modification will work though, I threw some OD green Brownells alumahyde 2 epoxy paint over the wood I exposed. It blends in way better now, and the notch seems to be plenty big. I'll find out pretty soon here how well it does in cold conditions. I'm making preparations to employ it at the S&S Winter Forge event.
could you please paint the notching greene
oh I did, It looks factory now

Do you happen to know the torque specs on the action screws on this rifle? Thanks
no, just use good and snug with plenty of blue locktite.
