    I really like the PENN surf blaster and just bought 2 of them, they have reduced to £74:99 for the second revision. Excellent value for money but they no longer supply 2 spools.

      Also worth mentioning that IMAX make reel cases that are a perfect fit for these reels.

    I started fishing in around 1955 in fresh water. When I moved near the sea I had a a spinning rod for mackerel and schoolie bass. That was with my freshwater fixed spool. I also did beach fishing with a long beach caster with an American multiplier reel off the South Wales beaches for flatties and bass. I am a sail boat owner and dabbled for mackerel. But I have been following this Yt channel and live in Seaford and am interested in starting again.

    Hooray! At last someone who doesn’t tell you to buy an over the top rod and multiplier reel for starting fishing. The beginners outfit is ideal for someone new to beach fishing. John Holden recently wrote an article in Sea Angler magazine in which he used a beginners outfit which he reckoned was good for about 125 yds and 150gram weights and cost under £50! I have seen thousands of ordinary anglers using outfits like this and they catch fish! It’s the angler that catches the fish not the rod and reel. I hope the rest of the video series is as sensible. Thanks for your input again. I think i saw that article. Once people use functional but effective equipment and catch a few fish they will be in a better place to enjoy and appreciate better quality of tackle i think.I remember that first decent fish rattle on a rod tip of a new top quality rod and i could see and evaluate it so much better than an equivilent bight on my budget set up. However i wouldn't of known this of i hadn't served an apprentiship if budget rods and reels. Same goes for using multipliers great when you have some experience but not when you are just starting out. The joy of you tube is that im not sponsored and have nothing to sell so i can just be as honest as possible and accept all these comments and view points to make us all better anglers. Again thanks for taking the to tocomment.

      Sea Fishing Marks U.K hi thanks for that. I’m in the same boat as far as TH-cam goes. I don’t want sponsorship and tell people that tackle is good when it isn’t . I only do long term tackle reviews of items I have used long term. Doing another this week on a reel I’ve used for 5 years. Keep up the good work Tight Lines

  • @nemesisslr
    @nemesisslr 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Sorry but I have a couple of issues. First is that rod does not have a spigot joint. Its a push in joint. I would not recommend buying a pier rod at all. A decent Beach rod is all you need. I would recommend that you use a slim beauty knot for shockleader. It works very well and is much smaller. For fixed spools I use a tapered leader which is a much smaller knot and I believe casts further.

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      nemesisslr. Thanks for your comments. Sorry yes push in not spigot and 12ft beachcaster seems to be the way to go.

    • @nemesisslr
      @nemesisslr 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would recommend the Shakespeare Long surf rod, I have used it for fishing and was a great casting and fishing rod. I would have loved to have a tronix reel on it. Think it would be a winner.

      Sorry, just trying to help. Hope you do not find my comments derogative. I am just trying to help. The continental rods are perfect for newcomers as they cast further without much effort. A lot of match anglers are using them these days.

    Hi Matt, have you ever used the sonik rods? In particular the SKS Black and Dominator?
    Im heading to the south coast next year, Chesil beach and looking for a new rod which would suit that venue. Not sure if you can advise? I’d pair whichever rod with the sonik AVX reel.
    Many thanks.

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have used them yes -there is a big jump between their budget rods and the much more refined Dominator. Id avoid Bottom of range sonik anything. Casing point is their budget beach reel the SKS is far inferior to the AVX.

    How long should the shock leader be, I'm guessing about a length and a half of the rod?

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes allow for 10 or so turns around the spool all the way up and back down the length of the rod tip to the butt of the rod. That’s more than you need but allows for a few cuts if the line wears

  • @TobinFrosty
    @TobinFrosty 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why do you need the leader line @Saltwater Angler ? And why is it so much heavier ? If I'm correct you attached a 50pound line to a 15pound line ? I'm a complete newbie trying to get into shore fishing. Thanks in advance

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tobin , In beach fishing you sometimes need a 6oz weight to be able to hold firm in the tide. To be able to cast that lead the rods need to be able bend and power that heavy lead out . A strong, powerful cast with lighter line risks snapping the thinner line. So the leader or heavier line is attached and wound on to the reel to be able to handle that cast and heavy lead.
      Tapered leader is used so the gradual thickness makes for an equal join and stops the big knot that can cause weed to jam and is a bit clunky on the reel and as it goes through the rod tips.
      Thinner line over most of the rod helps bright indication and casting after that initial cast

    Help please,,, i want to fish for seabass off the cliffs, they are usually 2,5kg... I have to reel them up a cliff 100 meters. I googled all day, 'strongest reel' etc tec. Can't get any results. Does anyone know which is the best fixed spool reel for reeling up fish out of water up cliffs?
    Ideally around 485 - 500grams to match my rod. Thank You in advance Guy's.

    One question Please answer
    I have mono line on my reels for beach fishing 🎣
    Do I still have to use leader line?

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not necessarily, if you are gently lobbing 2oz leads with a good smooth techniques it's fine. It does depend of course on the strength of the line. If I'm fishing snaggy ground where a powerful pendulum cast is needed then I fish sometimes 20lb line straight through. Maybe try a tapered leader if you are new to the sport.
      So as a general rule use. A leader to make casting safer.

    Hi Buddy I was wondering if you can give some advice please, I'm looking for an al-round reel I can use on a 10 foot pier spinning rod (Used for Mackerel feathers & Lures) and also on a 12 ft pier/Beach casting rod (Used for Feathers and bait casting) ! I've narrowed it down to Penn Battle II 6000 c or the Penn Battle II 7000LC what would you say is best or would you recommend the Spinfisher and what size? Many thanks hope you are keeping safe

      Yes a good solid set up. Personally id spend a bit more as the £200 price point can give a few more improvements. I have used that rod and its sound but more power and fineses from the AFAW bait and 6 second hand maybe

    What kind of fishing rod is best for casting when fishing sea bass ? I did tried to cast for about 1,5 hour with the first rod in the video and became so tired . Could you please suggest to me light weight / strong rod for casting ? I don't mind about money

      It depends where and how you want to fish for them ! Anything from fly rods to 13ft rock rods. I use all my rods for bass depending on venue and conditions. Do you mean a lure rod or a light bass rod ?

    Any idea why all the US beach anglers on here seem to use 9' rods not 12'?

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm what a great comment , The British coastline is Harsh and unforgiving at times and distance casting can sometimes be Important. Maybe thats why we need a stronger longer rod. Our lure rods are shorter and there is a growing trend in LRF light rock fishing rods for our ever dwindling stocks so we can have fun with smaller fish. ? Still not really an Answer though !!
      What does anyone recon ?

  • @matty1255

    Does the length of the rod matter? I see alot of sea rods come in 12,13,14 and sometimes 15ft variations, is bigger better?
