    rare to find people that share like this. Where I lived one time in my life (Washington State USA) I LOVED people going golfing... less competition fishing! Hawaii on the other hand is one of the FREEEST (is that a word?) places on earth NO fishing license needed. You buy a boat, a fishing pole you catch a marlin, tuna, Mahi Mahi menpachi Ono, etc etc what a wonderful place, with people who LOVE YOU! Just be NORMAL, okay? you have a small boat, they have a small boat. Yo have a beer they have a beer. It is LIFE that is fishing. Thank YOU!

    I use a Penn 525 multiplier- I have an old century rod which I stripped down and put Fuji rings on it then rewhipped and varnished the rod. It had no grip on the butt end so I've fitted one. I cannot complain John, it has served me well for 25 years.

    Brilliant video as always. Another tip for the multiplier is put your leader knot at one side of the reel and then when you cast out your thumb on the other side, stops any cuts you might get from the knot. However I'm definitely with you on fixed spools, so much more convenient than a multiplier

    Cheers mate! I enjoyed the video.I believe it's the way you go in-depth but not overly explain things in your videos that is the key to keep people excited about watching.
    When TH-cam first came out I was going to do basically what you do.
    With 50 plus years of fishing...whether it be recreational...charter or commercial no matter where i go to fish I always take the time to show someone that is new to fishing certain tips to catching more fish.
    Even when you showed and demonstrated the good old 'Birds nest' I actually demonstrate to our fishing charter guests how to avoid getting them on the way out to the ocean.
    Most people have never fished a Penn 4/0 before so a little knowledge goes a long way.And of course I explain how to properly set the hook when fishing with circle hooks.(Only took me about 2 years to get proficient with them since I have always been a 'Set the hook' fisherman.)
    Anyways mate...Finally tomorrow we will have our first charter in the ocean of the year.Thank the Lord !
    Being landlocked drives me crazy.lol
    And we typically run about 250 to 300 trips a year.
    Well...with that being said...I'm off to get ready for tomorrow.
    Tight lines and calm seas to you !
    From your friend on the other side of the pond.

      @TheFishLocker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is a very fine line between giving enough information and making the subject matter unrelatable isn't it. I have always been the type of person who wished to share with someone rather than watch them feel. So it's good to hear that you are too. Good luck on your charter and tight lines. 😊

    I remember using the multiplyier as a nipper, always getting birds nest until my dad fitted a gadget (forgot it's name) basically it fitted onto the reel which if I remember was spring loaded, you past the line through two parallel bars, so when you cast the line the bars sprang back against the reel slowing the line feed which in turn prevented the birds nest, no idea if you can still buy them, reel technology has come a long way in the last 46 years 😂😂👍👍👍👍

    Really good intro in to the world of shore fishing, maybe one thing I would add is something to protect your finger when you cast, both fixed spool and multiplier, a finger stall, sticking plaster, or even a strip of black or gaffer tape can help you stop getting cuts from the leader. As you only doing an overhead thump maybe not so important.

    a tip, if you don't already use it for the overhead reel, is to attach a peace of 1/2" silicon rubber tube on the reel so that lays against the back of the spool. Place it in the center so your thumb can press it against the line for casting to lock the spool and then lean on the line to control the flight, Cheers Peter.
