Ow well thanks for watching. I’m not really in to striper bass fishing but I will still watch with a view to picking something up I can use. As always appreciate your views again 👍
I used to use multipliers and I can cast well with them but switched to using braid years ago, so that ment using fixed spools. When distance casting I use 16ft rods and when bass fishing in the summer I use 13 ft rods or if conditions allow I use carp rods as its a lot more fun.
Yea some good points as always Alex. I’m always flirting between the two , I do like that low profile to the blank of multi-storey with a better balance, but conti set up is so easy to cast and I’ll get the same distances or further. I prefer braid too on my fixed spool but not wanting to confuse too much for this video we swapped to a mono !
Hi Dave, thanks mate- It’s quite interesting taking it slow and thinking through what we do. I guess I’m guilty of bad habits though like the poor reel care. There’s some fish coming to video soon at least . Hope your well and we can blast through winter ❄️

I’ve been wanting to get involved in winter beach fishing which I know absolutely nothing about, so this video has really been most useful. Many thanks, really appreciated 👍🎣
Hi Ken , thanks for watching , Autumn and in to winter can be a great time for sea fishing. Whiting realistically saving the blanks alongside dreams of cod here on the south coast. East Devon sounds like a wonderful place to retire and fish ! I’ve often thought it’s now possible to lure fish throughout the year. We know bass change their feeding habits but no on really fishes for them on lures in winter so this could be a missed opportunity I think.
@@SaltwaterAngler I’m off down to Devon next Thursday for a long weekend, and will give the lures a go at my favourite marks at Branscombe and Salcombe Regis, and will obviously let you know if the Bass are still around 👍🎣 Tight lines and best wishes for the festive season.

I fish the surf at low tide. I don't even wear wellies just walking boots. No need to wade as bass come really close in. A cast of 60 - 70 yards will catch bass and flatfish. Once it hits the shingle 30 yds will do!

Hi Matt think you know or work with my brother Pete cooper. Watched this vid this morning and went out today to catch my first ever beach fish. Had two small smoothies.
Hi M, it’s derek from the club, just a quick I know you know your plug fishing,so while I like to catch bass and caught many this year. I did see that you using single hooks, you mentioned that you can lose some that way,but as I like to put most back the trebles are not the way forward,so what you think of 2 singles with the barb facing backwards and also while trolling would nor get caught up so often? Let me know what you think. Thanks.
Hi mate, I don’t think the end single being up or down makes much of a difference to snags or hook ups but thats based on two years stats. Your right that trebbles are trouble for catch and release. However they are much more likely to catch and hold a fish. More important I think is sharp well made (2/0) and keep that bass head up when your playing it. I don’t have all the answers ofcourse , remember to make sure the gape Doesn’t catch round the lure body. Barbless trebbles maybe ? Speak soon Derek
Thanks for the video. I have been sea fishing for two years, still struggle with the accuracy and distance with my casting, any tips? Tend to find I either let go too early or too late.
The obvious answer is a good coach, but try filming yourself to spot mistakes. Watching a top caster over and over can help too - some good videos on TH-cam for this
Ooh you're local to me. You mentioned Tony's Tackle, I'm new to fishing, been out a few times in Newhaven, apparently Eastbourne is quite a good place to go, is there anywhere in particular for mackerel? My son and wife are enjoying it but we've not caught anything yet in Newhaven.
Hi can you fish from the beach without using a tripod rod rest? What about using the same rod rest I use for my barbel fishing? Also what is the cheapest bait you could use to catch fish from the beach? Thanks
Yes you can but only in really calm conditions. Washed up bait can work mussels, gaper clams razor fish even lug worm . Bait collecting lug worm is money saving. Frozen squid and mackerel cheap to buy
Just found this TH-cam channel. I am a complete beginner to sea fishing but used to do freshwater fishing. I want to start sea fishing at Hemsby, Caister and Great Yarmouth. Can I use my long range carp rods as beach casters to begin with?
Yes. But only if conditions allow. There are a lot of transferable skills and in fact you could probably teach us Sea Anglera a thing or two. Especially when it comes to attention to bait presentation. Summer fishing the carp rods will be fine but I’m assuming they are 3oz so staying in the autumn you might well need something for 5oz
Are those lugworm gutted salted n frozen? Or just salted then frozen? I was told if freezing lugworm to nip the end and push the gutts out then sea salt and wrapped in newspaper into the freezer. Also didn't know they made tapperd leader. That would be handy cuz I use a 60lb leader onto 20lb mono and the problem with that I've found no matter how well I tie the uni knott it always makes that clunk clunk sound as the knott bumps through the rod eyes when casting.
This is a long shot seeing as this video isn’t recent, but is the rod you used at the end rhe yokozuna 14ft beachcaster and if so Is it a good rod ? Thanks
It always used to be enough to wrap round the spool a few times and then run up through the rod rings to another rod length so looking at about 28ft. But now tapered leader should be used and whatever size that comes in usually 40 ft. This allows for knot tying and re cutting if the lines been damaged either end.
