I've been salting my own pilchard for about 3 years now. I use two Bulla ice cream tubs. One drilled with multiple holes that fits inside the other with spacers to allow the water to collect. I layer the pilchards with salt then pilchards then salt then pilchard etc until the packet is empty (lots of salt). Even 24 hours makes a difference, but after about 5 days or a week they are very tough. I cut them to size on the beach with scissors. You can either cut them horizontally or vertically -- and they will keep even on the hotest day. And, as you know, you can keep them in the freezer and they don't completely freeze, and are ready to use. The bream love them as does every other fish. Cheers.

Such a great tip mate. Love it! I always had that question if it would be as effective as non-salted ones. Nice to hear it works good for you mate. Thanks for that. Let's go fishing! Cheers, Dan.

Great video, I regularly get asked what's the best time to fish, my answer is always the same "when I can" its more important to learn your area and adapt technique to the opportunities available so in my area high tide in close. Low tide further out then then other factors come into play time of day season etc. but its mostly about knowing the area and fishing at any time.

This is my second visit to your beach fishing site and I'm hooked good and proper. You really are a lucky son of a gun having all that beautiful ocean to yourself. Here in the south of England we have to share the Channel with hundreds of tankers and fleet of trawlers that don't leave much fish left for us beach boys. However, catching or not its a great past time. mind you, a fish every now and then brightens the day no end. Thanks for allow me to accompany you on your fishing trip. Over here we call that rig a "Penal" rig. Thanks again and Tight lines

I was also disappointed in lack of supplies no brown sauce, marmite fruit and fibre ,and ran out of Guinness. Before long it will end up being a self catering cruise. I was happy with the condition of the ship . I personally thought the captains reports were not as informative as they used to be. I am just glad in a way that you feel the same way about Ventura As I do as well both can’t be wrong . Happy cruising.

Hey Roger. Thank you so much for your videos mate. I've been watching your content for a while now, and your videos are super cool! I love the way you walk through your tackle and all the tips you give. So nice. Your channel got me back into fishing, particularly beach fishing. It has always been a passion of mine, and now I am back into it. I really enjoy the way you simplify things and make it enjoyable. So cool, mate. Please keep up the great work. Big fan here from the Byron Bay area. I started my little channel to share my fishing journey and maybe help another fellow angler who wants to get back into it. I hope one day we can share a fishing session together. It would be a privilege. If you are around the area, please let me know. Happy to tag along. Big fan. Let's go fishing! Cheers. Dan.

Hey Roger, I moved to WA in March and had zero knowledge of fishing. I watch your videos every week, even in the middle of fishing when i forget what to do! You are a legend and so insightful!
Question for you - what is the swivel you are using here and connector to the sinker? I usually connect the sinker to another length of leader on a three-way swivel but looks like you have it connected to a 2 way? Looks a lot cleaner too and less likely to tangle.

Might use that stinger method. I have lost 2 fish to pater noster rigs where the second hook caught a rock and another time the second hook caught the net and the fish ran and snapped the line.

That was wonderful and amazingly helpful to this beginner. PS I have NEVER heard of a beach worm- That was right out of a sci-fi movie! If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would not have believed you! Thanks for the great vids.

Hi Roger, Luke Parsons here. Looks like similar structure to Avoca beach where I fish each year.
What size hook? 1/0 main, 1 stinger?
Also, you mentioned something about the main hook being a bit thick for the worm. Can you explain that a little further? What kind of hook is best for the worm? And which is best for the pilchards?

Not all beaches are the same. Here in the East Coast of West Malaysia, you'll be lucky to catch one.

Roger thanks for showing me the surf rig with the small stinger hook. Two days ago in NZ's Golden Bay using the rig and a half Pilchard I landed a 15 lb Kingfish. Lovely fish of which a smoked half. Fillets weighed 4.5lb each. Thanks for the info. Pete Keane
