    Shower tray installing when the stud work isn’t fitted to the size of the tray!!!….. Guess who has to deal with it!!

      On most 120cm shower cubicles 99% of the screen are at the allowance 116-120cm which yours is going to be 119cm with tiles and adhesive .
      So nothing to worry about!
      I have installed 100s of them

      May well be up to the builder but he and the client will still blame the plumber when that job of installing any doors/screens eventually gets bodged into place. Just hope the client never clocked your van during a site visit and remembers your details from it as I bet they'd happily sling mud you down their golf/country club or at the PTA meetings they attend!
      Shame that builder and his workers don't know how to use a tape measure or how to allow for final finishes.
      Quality LOL

    I had a 1660 gap for my shower tray. I just brought out the narrow wall by 50mm (40mm studs + 10mm backer board) then had 10mm wiggle room. But not sure why they don't just make it to the size you need in the first place. Also, I think they skim as tilers are happy to tile onto plaster and it's cheaper than backing board or other alternatives.

    • @MJTiffPlumbing
      @MJTiffPlumbing  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yep they should have made it the right size from the start…. Happens a lot when communication isn’t there

    I noticed it was “MX” shower trays going in. They are a proper pain they are usually bigger than the stated size by upto 10mm sometimes. I add “classi seal” to all my trays and that adds a few mm either side aswell.

  • @johnadams1976
    @johnadams1976 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I couldn't work out why till I measured the bath. It was 1710mm. I complained to the shop only to be told the measurements are nominal. Can be 10mm either way. Never again. I had to cut away the plasterboard and it never looked right. 10 years later the tap broke and I couldn't get the bath out to fix it as it was up against the wall. Never again. I’m getting paid to do X/Y/Z.Poor plumbers gotta try and fit something in a space where previous trades have taken all tolerances out.

    "Oh, we know a plasterer".
    So when "the plasterer" attends and you explain your specifications, you still need to chop 25mm out for the head end of the bath, lower the bath in at an angle and then jack up the feet to get it to fit.
    Next job.
    "Oh we know a plasterer"
    So, when you re-attend, the walls aren't plumb, are up to 30mm out at the top lh and rh side of the window and you are working with 600 x 300 mm porcs....brick-course pattern. Plasterers... I even uploaded a video. Don't spill your beer if you watch it.

    Feel your pain on that job.Just my 3 penny worth -no criticism of your work-But I found there is a massive difference between some silicones when fixing trays down on to chipboard..Used to use mortar mix but on switching to silicone I did one with a liberal amount of Dow Corning 785 and the silicone didn't have any adhesion whatsoever to the substrate when I did a 'test lift' the next day. The substrate had also been swept and primed with SBR the previous day so was dust free. Then used a hybrid polymer type sealant the second time(plumbers gold) and it definitely made a world of difference in bonding to the chipboard. In reality, as we know, those big trays could probably sit there for decades without any form of sealant under 'em but I've learned not to waste any more sanitary sealant in trying to stick the damn things down in future.

    Day rate plus £100 in multi tool blades! With regard to the screen you could always tile/ board up to it………………just like they were in my upstairs shower room🤬 oh and then silicone the 5mm gap between the screen and the shower wall 😳oh and then not bother boarding the studwork opting for that tried and tested method of 12mm plasterboard packers siliconed to the studs!😱oh and then finding that said silicone is not really holding the shower wall to the studs sufficiently opt for 50mm screws with caps to hold it in position🤨,oh and then wonder why there’s so much filler in the kitchen ceiling😂 needless to say that one is now sorted. Only the downstairs bathroom to completely gut now as some moron did exactly the same there too. Glad you stuck with it bud👍🏻

    Quick question. Ripping out old shower. Noticed that the 1200 tray has plasterboard (and tile) down to edge or tray. Rather than chop studs/move walls, would it be easier to pack one side out and fit a 1100 tray? That seems the se sible idea to me. Thanks in advance for any adivce.

      If there is anyone out there who could possible help with this headache... Space between brick wall and metal stud work is 1230. 1200 shower tray doesn't give enough room to get 2 X board either side + adhesive on brick side. An 1100 would fit but it means me doubling up (and more) on board on the side of the steel stud wall (which backs onto a cupboard). Ideally I'd want a shower tray of 1150 but they don't seem to offer them. Any wisdom to share on this anyone?

  • @effervescence5664
    @effervescence5664 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One, where you getting your trays from cause if we tried those angles with the ones we get they'd crack for sure.
    Two, we only silicone trays on solid floors (concrete), any joist floors are sand cement on top of ply. Whatever works and doesn't get you a call back under warranty though.
    Three, since 2018 shower areas are supposed to be tanked so what was the point in plastering it's just a waste of man hours instead of using a waterproofing board.
