    Another excellent video. Please please show us how to do it when the ceiling isn't open below... Should I just use a flexible connector underneath to make it easier to join into the old pipe?

    Most installers and DIYers don’t have the luxury of being able to get to the underside where there’s no ceiling underneath the bathroom. Like to see a vid showing how to install a tray from in side the bathroom only.

    Been a fan for a while and as DIY'er your advice has been vital at times!
    One question about Shower trap.... @ 9:17 you mention modifying the shower trap, what was this regarding? Reason why I ask is I have a high flow trap in my ensuite (24 litres per minute) but it tends to struggle with full flow from the shower (and I cant reduce the flow due to it being a push button mixer). just wondering if it was related to your mod? Are there any known cheeky mods to the insert of the trap to allow more flow through?

    You should always bed those low profile shower trays on a wet sand / cement base as they are never 100% flat on the bottom and save yourself the headache of having to rip it out and fit a new one when it cracks......😂

    noticed you routed waste through joists. was this 42mm waste? If so, what size were your joists because i beleive regs only permit 1/8th to 1/4 of joist depth. For my joists (190mm) i'd only be able to use 30mm pipes) and so wont be able to run my pipes through my joists.

    Advice please....
    Our bathroom is fully tiled floor to ceiling.....
    We have a quadrant shower base 800mm x 800m.
    The base is one with adjustable legs etc...
    Now all the videos i see show the base fitted and then tiled to the base afterwards.....
    How do make sure the edge of the shower does not leak when i install it !
    The base fits nicely into the corner...
    So do i lay a 2 beads of silicone around the edge top edge and bottom edge of the shower base and then push it into the corner and then go around the top edge of the tray and silicone to the wall.......

  • @stuffoflardohfortheloveof

    Enjoyed this BUT......not sure I’d have the nuts to simply rely on just silicon to seal between the glass and the tray......I’m glad I’ve seen you do it as I’d have probably talked myself out of a glass screen like that even though really wanting it. Don’t suppose there’s an alternative sealer..?? 👍

    I'm looking for some advice on how to start out in plumbing (I live in England).
    I currently work as a gardener, but really want to learn a trade.
    I'm 33 is that too old to start plumbing?
    What courses and places do you suggest to learn the basics?
    Getting an apprenticeship as an adult, is that possible?

    Great video - thanks. I'm about to fit a stone resin shower tray 700mm x 1400mm & the instructions say to bed in 5mm sand/cement. It's going on 22mm moisture resistant chipboard which is all level. Do i need the sand/cement or can I use sealant/adhesive like you have done? I can't see the need for the sand/cement - the tray's pretty heavy & isn't likely to move at all. If you think it's OK to use sealant/adhesive - what type do you recommend? Thanks

    I remember when I was installing a shower tray on site. First I had a nightmare getting it in because the walls were so close😂, then I was doing up the mini legs the shower tray had. Was wondering why it kept going down. Then lifted it up to look at the back legs and they have sunken into the floor 😂😂. That was my first day on site.

    Shouldn't the basin be on a separate waste to the stack and ideally be using swept bends for the 90s? Also regs. state max 3m run unvented for a 40mm pipe. Depends on the shower flow I guess.

      I recently installed my own shower tray I just propped up the tray with a block of wood then connected up the waste trap to flexible pipe. Then just drop the tray down. You don't even need to stick the tray down, they are very heavy and have silicon around the edges plus the shower screen fixed on top. If look up fitting free standing baths you will find they do it the way I explained hope this helps.

      Mark Davies I've used a few in properties I'm contracted to maintain as well. The oldest one so far is 4 years old and no problems at all. Also very easy to declog of any built up hair. Pricey though... and unnecessary for a job like this.

    I’ve got a 1700 x 800 tray to lay and am in doubt about just using CT 1 to lay it with because the instructions say it needs to be laid in a sand/cement base. There are arguments for both methods but I’m stuck. It wasn’t a cheap tray, so to replace it is not something I want to do.

      Jim Mc gahon Well I wouldn't say it was a bad job, yes it's best to have individual waste pipes but sometimes you're restricted and have no other option. It's only a bad job if it's done wrong.
      Why do they manufacture tees and reducers if it's such bad practice?

    • @jimmcgahon6961
      @jimmcgahon6961 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      would it be good practice to install a Hepvo trap to prevent gurgling when water is being discharged

    • @tommyftw4996
      @tommyftw4996 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No gurgling will not happen if he has the correct fall. Plus he can always use anti vac traps

    • @D_pawson
      @D_pawson 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Vomit Man if you have a blockage between that tee and soil stack and empty your bath or basin the water will pump back up through the shower waste and flood your house

    • @BABYCHAOS26
      @BABYCHAOS26 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      D P you would notice a blockage well before it got bad enough to cause any problem (shower waste running away slowly) that's why you maintain your waste pipes and drains, if you neglect them that's when problems occur. As I stated in previous comment, it's only a bad job if done wrong. Having adequate fall prevents blockages as it's self cleansing and carries waste products away, leaving pipe clear. The only blockages that will occur is at the traps which are designed to be taken apart and cleared.
