Had the same problem. Couldn’t find anything online that helped. Messed around and found I was able to format my WD Passport to work on Windows 11 by going to: System>Storage>Disks&Volumes. Disk management was no use for me since the drive initially did not show up. Now it shows up and works. Hope this helps.

So I'm following your guide, and at around 4:00 I'm trying to do this but the option to assign the drive letter is greyed out and doesn't work to click. What do I do? The harddrive is recognized, it shows, but it doesn't work and it would seem assigning a letter could fix it but it won't let me (?). Edit: using W10 btw if it matters. The only options that are available are to remove it and "help" (which is of no help at all).

What i did was i deleted both the unallocated section which was a couple hundred MB, then deleted the mass of the hard drive (mine was about 1.8TB), then created a New Volume and it worked for me!
My WD Passport was from my work Dell laptop - and all of the files work fine as long as i am connected to my work Dell laptop. But now i want to use it from my personal HP laptop. These steps work - but for some reason none of the files show up correctly. When i plug in my WD the HP does not ask for password. How do i fix this?
Thanks for the video. When I connect my WD external HDD nothing shows up in disk management. As soon as I disconnect it, other drives show up. Last time it became full, almost nothing left free. It's a 2TB MY PASSPORT ULTRA. Could the issue be the HDD being full?
I formatted my WD My Passport with Easeus because Windows 8 wouldn't partition it. It froze when partitioning. I didn't know about cmd's and ending processes then. Turned the pc off. Corrupted the drive. Doesn't get detected. It's been sitting there since Windows 8, It would have to be reset by mfg, refurbisher or hammer. The solution for me was best to use a 2.5 case and insert a 2.5 hard drive. The thing I liked about those passports was the features but, don't really need the features anyway.

did you find any solution? My 5tb wd passport is not showing up in disk management. it gets detected in safe to remove icon and then it gets disappeared and in device manager it says unknown USB device error. and after some time it brings a notification that usb device is not recognized (the last usb device you connected to this computer has malfunctioned)

Your ultimate solution is moronic. It may work for retrieving lost files from the drive, but if it's not showing up in Windows, you can't use it.
