Hi there. I cant see my ext hard drive. When I go to disk management the drive is split into 2 parts. 1 half is unallocated. If I follow your instructions I'm worried that I might re format the part that is already allocated?
Where's the Techspot link you said you'd share in description? I can't see it anywhere.
I found the download on my own.
None of this worked at all for me...it's a brand new drive...no light to say it's powered up, no trace of it either in WD Utilities program or in diskmgmt.msc :(
ah, it was the USB cable that came with it...had to use my mobile broadband cable

I SERIOULY can not thank you enough!!!! I was having issues even detecting My Passport. Couldn't do anything with it, except that it made a nice blue LED lighted coaster that cost me $100. About to trash it or give it away, and I was like, "Yeah, I'll try this."...and BOOM!! Thank you so very much. God Bless, my friend.
Can't believe how simple this was. Every other youtube video was no help at all, just the same disk manager stuff. Needed to figure out how to format my new hard drive to windows because this one originally belonged to a mac user and wasn't showing up. Thank you!

"This PC" couldn't detect my "My Book". I called WD support but they suggested that I try a data recovery software and then format my external hard disk.
I tried it out but surprise surprise, it didn't work.
I kept on looking around until I fell on this video. All I had to do was download the WD Drive Utilities and it worked.

Thank you for the detailed video. I had to use WD Utilities to format my ExHD as a NTFS drive even though I had previously formatted the drive as NTFS using Paragon for MacOS. I'm running Parallels to run windows on my macbook and even after mounting the drive to Windows, it was not appearing under 'This PC'. Once I used WD Utilities to format the drive it was assigned a drive letter and appeared as an available drive.

OH MY GOD! You have helped me get my disk to show up. Bloody even WD digital company couldn’t even help, their ‘help’ is, reformat it!!! It’s my backup drive, how stupid is that advice!! Thanks for this video, I was able to see that the drive is still "alive" but not showing under devices and drives. Any idea what to do if the hard drive shows up in Disk Manager but all of the options except "delete volume" are greyed out? It's an old external HDD and shows an "EFI System Partition" and doesn't show "NTFS" under the partition, just "healthy" and its size.
It's 2023 and "your" video is the only one that solved my problem, thank you

Hey, just opened my new laptop, which can’t find My Passport. Drive is visible in Disk manage and Device Manager, all updated no issues and so on. And yet can’t be seen in My computer. As well for Disk Management window after right clicking only thing I can select is Delite Volume or Help (format is not a good idea as drive is half full with my work).
Maybe there is some another hidden way to make drive visible?

right click on the hard disc in disc management > change drive letter and paths solved my problem. :)

Hey I've got up to the part where it's blue highlighted in the disk management, meaning it is formatted, but when I right click to change drive letter and paths all the options are greyed out, any ideas? Thanks mate
WOW... i actually spent the whole day trying to figure this out myself after moving my passport hard drive from my ps4 to my new pc and this video FINALLY helped me fix it!! Thank you so much, truly. I did accidentally erase all of my stuff/reformat it before you had said NOT to do that but at least it works now! oopsies lol

So fyi yes mine was for my ps4 kids did something my game kept freezing this was the problem simply follow his steps and you can create new drive but it erases all previous stuff but it now works and I just reinstalled everything all over so thank you for your help.

This was helpful. However, I am running 2 external WD drives, a 1 TB and a @TB. Both are currently recognized by my PC. Lately, one will be a 'no show', and I think it may either be the cable , or hub. I downloaded the WD Utility, but how do I access both WD drives with the utility? Only one 'auto shows'

Help! I have a project in a week and I need these photos! I put my hard drive in it starts blinking and starts working but when you look in the files you cant find it... I did the run prompt too and the hard drive doesn't appear... I am using a WD Black and was working just 5 hours ago but suddenly stopped.. I have changed usb ports I have done everything....
