same issue here, the drive seems to be running which makes me think the cord isnt the issue and i've tried it on multiple ports on different mac devices, no luck.
@@limitededitionp5577 I think the needle is stuck. The drive needs to be opened and the needle reset from what i found from other videos. I haven't bothered taking it to a shop to fix it but it seems to be the last possible answer.

right, so how do you actually fix one that actually isn't showing up, by not showing up I mean it isn't in any list, not in the disk utility, not in the list on something like Disk Drill, basically actually not showing up, even when multiple tested cables and ports aren't helping the drive appear in any utility programme? as in NOT SHOWING UP ?

Damn I never actually thought of the power issue. I was thinking either the partition I had on my first passport. And maybe for my second one after a while, I was thinking of the USB ports. But once I plugged the cable as you said. After a couple of minutes the hard drive showed up. Thanks a lot. And It's quite an old Mac Mid 13, I normally take on vacation to transfer files. You saved the day.

my HDD was showing up, the only problem i had was that i couldn't put anything in UNTIL the LAST STEP!!!!!! I'm now super happy that i can use my HDD on my macbook besides Microsoft the last step was the one that worked for me erasing or formatting, my already empty HDD, ExFAT thank you bro!!!!!

Thanks boss, running the first aid on the drive from disk utility worked. But I've to do the first aid check almost everytime I plug in my hard drive and then it shows up magically. Its a 1TB WD HD formatted in ExFAT
I watched your video but I still can't find my external hard drive on my computer. You often speak of clicking on the external hard drive in disk utility, but it doesn't show in disk utility. It was popping up on screen and staying for about 2-3 minutes, then drop and then show up again. Now it's not showing period.

The point made, where going to Finder preferences (or settings since I'm using Sonoma) my external drive IS checked, but still not showing up. It WAS there initially, but when I clicked on it, to see its contents, it disappeared. So, as the next solution was to go through Disk Utilities, the 'Mount' version is what brought it up, and it's now showing. Why would it unmount, when clicking on it though? Thanks for this video!

I followed all the steps, unfortunately it didn’t work for me as my hard drive stop showing on my Mac. But when it plugged into my Mac it’s shows light that’s it’s plugged in … I ma have to try it on a window to see if it will work …
Omg my seagate is back on my desktop screen! I followed the the disk utility run , it took a while , but once it finished it appeared! God knows what I would have done after if it hadnt reappeared , thank goodness to the comments below tho as not to reformat it , as everything on it would have been erased! All my work ive stored there in various folders and lightroom history would have gone too ... Thanks for the vid it definitely helped , but you should have warned everyone first that reformatting would erase everything on there too , then its their choice if risk is worth getting the external hard drive working but you will lose everything on there by doing so .
The real thing that happend to some one may be installed a Seagate software and after that the HDD file is not showing up ...even after deleting it ..be patient u want to uninstall it through the DMG file that u used for installing .... believe me it will really work...and thank me later 🙌

I have a Mac Mini 2014 and installed the latest Monterey OS....I used a wired key board as recommended......I installed bootcamp and then used my Logitech wired keyboard to use both systems....unbeknown to me my logitech wireless mouse and keyboard prevented me from seeing external drives on Monterey OS.....when I removed the wireless keyboard and attached a generic wired keyboard I could see all the external drives attached to Mac OS.....this drove me nuts

I had the same issue. I went into finder and unchecked external hard drive. I then had to shut down my computer and turn it back on. I opened finder and checked external hard drive, then it showed up on my desk top and I was able to see it in utility as well, before I did this I was unable to see it anywhere. I hope this helps.

Nothing worked on the Mac. It saw the SSD, but First Aid didn't help and I didn't want to format it. The solution was to plug it into a Windows PC where I had access to the files anyway...., and Windows offered a repair option. I ran the repair, plugged it back into the Mac, and it worked. There are still areas where Apple needs to improve...
My mac doesn't recognize it in Finder like it used to, yet when I unplug the cord from the USB, the notification pops up saying I didn't eject my hard drive properly...how does it know I had it plugged in if it's not recognizing it??

I actually can see and access my Seagate Backup Drive, but my issue is that it's showing almost full, but I thought I deleted the bulk of what was on it, so now I'm wondering if I deleted them wrong by just dragging them to the Trash folder on my MacBook. Hi there, thank you for your question! It sounds like your SD card may be corrupted or using a file system incompatible with macOS, which can prevent it from being read. Have you tried using the SD card on a different device? Try checking it in Disk Utility to see if it appears, and if so, run First Aid to repair any errors. It’s also possible the trail camera uses a proprietary format; if so, plug the SD card back into the camera, connect the camera directly to your MacBook via USB, and access the files that way.

After system update, the external drive no longer shows up on desktop. I saw it on Disk utility and it sees it at being empty -- when actually, it's half full. I don't want to reformat it so as not to erase everything. Lots of important data stored there. Darn -- it worked just fine this morning before I updated computer, but now, computer doesn't recognize it.
Not even your RecoverIt software is recognizing my External Drive, yet the WD Drive Utility recognizes that it's there & acts as if nothing is wrong. It's not visible in my Finder, it's not visible in my Mac's Disk Utility, it's not visible in my Terminal. I have no clue what to do..!
Good info....unfortunately...My Macbook pro does not even SEE my Lacie ext HD...It was working beautifully up until a day ago, then suddenly the laptop no longer sees my ext HD....In addition, when I rebooted my Macbook - it loads (the laptop) and then after 1 min (as apps are loading) the laptop just shuts off and reboots - over and over - generates a report (which I've not idea what it means) then reboots. I purchased a 16 TB portable ssd made in china. I have followed all your recommendations and nothing worked. The instructions tell me to install mounty. I did that but my macbook pro still doesn't recognise it. Is it a junk ssd? There isn't even a manufacturer name on the box. The light on the ssd comes on when hooked up so I know it's getting power. This is my issue, however this Recoverit has found a lot of files which I need to recover. However the software comes at a cost.

Hey I have an sd card for my hunting trail camera that I need to clear space on. I’ve bought 2 different sd card readers to plug into my MacBook and both will not read the card.. they read other sd cards but for some reason not this one. Any thoughts?
Hi there, thank you for your question! It sounds like your SD card may be corrupted or using a file system incompatible with macOS, which can prevent it from being read. Have you tried using the SD card on a different device? Try checking it in Disk Utility to see if it appears, and if so, run First Aid to repair any errors. It’s also possible the trail camera uses a proprietary format; if so, plug the SD card back into the camera, connect the camera directly to your MacBook via USB, and access the files that way.
Hello sir,i have this macbook pro that i formated many times before i got the question mark folder. Can i still fix it on my own? Because i went to apple store and they tole me that my hard disk had already corrupted amd need to be replace. my drive isn't showing up. This vid has it showing for much of the fixes. Up to this point I did everything the vid said and everything worked. but the drive doesn't show anywhere in finder. So the last solutions given can't be done, for I cannot click on the drive

After system update, the external drive no longer shows up on desktop. I saw it on Disk utility and it sees it at being empty -- when actually, it's half full. I don't want to reformat it so as not to erase everything. Lots of important data stored there. Darn -- it worked just fine this morning before I updated computer, but now, computer doesn't recognize it.
Not even your RecoverIt software is recognizing my External Drive, yet the WD Drive Utility recognizes that it's there & acts as if nothing is wrong. It's not visible in my Finder, it's not visible in my Mac's Disk Utility, it's not visible in my Terminal. I have no clue what to do..!
Good info....unfortunately...My Macbook pro does not even SEE my Lacie ext HD...It was working beautifully up until a day ago, then suddenly the laptop no longer sees my ext HD....In addition, when I rebooted my Macbook - it loads (the laptop) and then after 1 min (as apps are loading) the laptop just shuts off and reboots - over and over - generates a report (which I've not idea what it means) then reboots. When I unplug the ext. HD - then the laptop is fine.
I have hours and hours of important video on the HD that I really need. Not cool

Hi there, thank you for your question! navigate to the desired file or folder in Finder, right-click, and select "Get Info." In the Info window, scroll to the "Sharing & Permissions" section. If locked, click the padlock and enter your administrator password to unlock it. Review the permissions, and if it shows "You have custom access," select the user or group, and adjust the access level using the dropdown menu to "Read & Write," "Read Only," or "No Access." For folders, you can apply the changes to all enclosed items by clicking the gear icon and selecting "Apply to enclosed items." Once done, relock the permissions by clicking the padlock again.
I purchased a 16 TB portable ssd made in china. I have followed all your recommendations and nothing worked. The instructions tell me to install mounty. I did that but my macbook pro still doesn't recognise it. Is it a junk ssd? There isn't even a manufacturer name on the box. The light on the ssd comes on when hooked up so I know it's getting power. Any suggestions?
