    I'm 79 years old and have been riding for 62 years. Have owned 29 motorcycles including a 480 HP modified Boss Hoss. All of my bikes, save one, have been at the very top of the displacement and power range. I've owned Italian, British, Japanese and American machines. I must say that my current Rocket 3 GT is the most gratifying and enjoyable motorcycle I've ever owned. Beautiful, comfortable, fast, smooth and beautifully made! It is really a work of art! The bike also handles far better than its size and weight would suggest.

    I have one and it’s very very easy to live with in Spain, great roads, very little rain, great road surfaces and much higher speeds than you can manage on tiny wet Cornish roads.
    You just don’t feel the weight and it’s remarkably nimble.
    A reverse gear would be just the icing on a fantastic cake! Thanks Freddie

    I rode a 375 kilo Harley for several years. You learn to always back it into a parking space, it becomes routine. Harley also organized Safe Rider’s trainings where you learn to maneuver that heavy beast as if it only weighed half as much. The key was training by instructors who knew their stuff. I don’t know if Triumph organizes trainings for Rocket riders. In any case they should.

      Harley dont organize anything. They sell you things. The problem with the American bike test is its a joke. No real riding skill required as long as you can keep the bike up right and do a few quick stops and turns. Its more focused on the written test at the DMV than the riding test.

By the end the students are doing figure 8's alternating between riders. Cornering techniques, etc. All the fundamentals of proper rider. Including head positions and the difference between riding and driving by where you look. Also obstacle avoidance. This isn't even the advanced course, but during the endorsement course. So...... Shockingly I’d choose the sport glide over that huge lump. However, today I was riding around the back roads and muddy green lanes on my 130Kg Yamaha Serrow. It’s got an air cooled 2 valve engine with 20hp and tyres that look like they might fit a mountain bike. It can hit 70mph with its five gears and bimble around in top without complaining. I can just about flat knee it, never mind flat foot it-so close to the ground that falling off would hardly be catastrophic for either of us. 70mpg, low road tax and just £30 to add it to my other bikes insurance for the year. We did 70 miles this afternoon, taking us 3 solid hours and I’ve got a grin like a Cheshire Cat. Swap for a Triumph Rocket ? No chance.

    I have been wanting one of these bikes for quite some time. And on 20th July this year of 2023, I Purchased at an unbelievable excellent price a brand new 2022 Triumph Rocket 3 R in KOROSI RED from a Dealer in Florida, a 2-hour drive from where I live. I too noticed after a Sunday morning 2 Hour Dive having a some lower back problem and hip cramping. I had originally thought even before buying the Rocket about acquiring the GT handlebars. No argument that it is a completely different motorcycle of anything I’ve had or that I know of. I can say there are certain pieces of trim on the motorcycle that are absolutely dime store cheap and could’ve been designed for the same amount of money, but much more sturdy, and just as light in weight. My first ride on it I actually was intimidated and asked myself. What have I done??? But now I realize you have to be extra cautious, more so than the every day driving of the caution you need with any motorcycle. And yes, it is absolutely impressive beyond words, it reminds me of a locomotive engine when you’re low in RPM and you want to increase velocity you really don’t need to downshift just twist the throttle and hold on and of course, the engine does sound like a locomotive engine spooling up. If you’re in the upper power band, don’t just lightly twist the throttle unless you’re fully prepared for what’s coming next! Again, it is a marvelous piece of engineered equipment.

I even took it over the tight twisty road between Rivington and Belmont with no issues, but a lot of head turning. I wouldn't have been so bold in the rain though, but on motorways I found it rock solid and awesome to ride. Can only imagine how the latest version is. In fairness the bike is far more suited to flat areas. 👍

    Jonah Lomu! I met him in the gym one day. He was offseason, so was not his playing weight of 118kg, or so...he was 140kg! My two legs together were not as big as one of his legs! I am a bodybuilder, all be it a short one. My legs were about 25 inches back then. Great video Freddie! Cheers.

    It's a statement bike, made by Triumph, for the owner to make a similar statement.
    But excess is excess and it's not for me, even if I could afford it.
    Admire it, don't desire it.
    Good review, though.
    Safe, happy travels 👍

    Hi Freddie, great review thank you - leaves me wondering why Triumph have chosen not to give this huge bike a reverse gear? Perhaps the cost of tooling up for a gear box with a reverse gear was just too high? Who knows.

    • @markperry3507
      @markperry3507 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree, especially as the BMW R18 has a reverse gear. Though it is IMHO a bit fiddly to operate and not always easy to engage. I think an electronic engagement or at least something handlebar mounted would be optimum on such an expensive bike.

    I do love the shock and awe that this mega machine generates in others, love your reverence towards the bike! 🙂 Some great points made (yeah, with the weight it would really do well with a reverse gear), just a shame about the weather on film day. You probably need to get yourself a nice long few weeks with it to get properly acquainted. The ergonomics are very adjustable (two types of bars, front and rear peg locations and adjustability at each), so you could easily get it set up so you didn't get back pain.

    Great review. I was at the 95 world cup in Cape Town. Lomu was brutal as is this bike. You should try a BMW K1600. 160 hp, silky smooth 6 cylinder engine and a slightly clunky gearbox. But what a joy to ride.

      I have both the K1600b and Rocket 3 GT. The riding experience is totally different. K1600 sounds like a jet engine, while the GT has that raw, high displacement engine. For me the K1600 is less maneuverable, while I am perfectly comfortable riding in town on the GT.

    There is another apex bike that rarely gets a mention - the MV Agusta Rush 1000. It doesn't have the torque of the R3 but is 205 bhp with a dry weight of just 186 kg. The price tag is a bit much though!

  • @mirose5553
    @mirose5553 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Rocket. Definitely, a Rocket over any HD - the build quality is amazing: the quality justifies the price. I was leaning towards a Diavel but once I saw this in person, I set my sights on the R3.
    At 6’2”, 100 kilos, I have concerns about the forward strain over time in the saddle on the R3; however, I’m not a fan of the forward pegs on the GT - so time will tell.
    Yes, a reverse would be nice. There are many courses on how the better handle baggers with comparable weight, offered by the police or others (in the States). So, will check that out.

    • @alexjowx
      @alexjowx 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I took the R3 GT. It’s extremely comfortable even for long rides.
      It took me just a few minutes to adjust to the forward pegs coming from a Speed Triple.
      You could always swap the handlebars on the R, or the pegs on the GT, it’s easy to do.

    Hi Freddie, about 9 years ago I purchased a new Diaviel, Ducati and Bugatti are all part of the VW Group, so the engineers brief was to make the bike faster accelerating than the Veron whose 0 to 60 was 2.5 seconds.
    It achieved a 2.49 time, which beats the Rocket.
    The formula is power to weight, the Rocket may be faster accelerating at 100mph plus to its top speed, but how fast would the ride become…. too much wind blast ?
    I cruised on the Diaviel at 135 mph on the autobahn, but I had a touring screen.
    The name for the Ducati in English is devil, after 120mph the air box gives off a banshee wail, well named
    Enjoyed the video, glad you didn’t drop it, it looked a handful.
    Beautiful work of art.

    I have the 2023 chrome r edition. Running it in I was pleasantly surpised with 48.3 mpg highway (5.85 l/100km). Beautifully balanced and lots of fun in twisties, you just need to keep in mind all that extra momentum. Same goes for low speed manouvering - plan ahead. If you end up adjusting the bars keep in mind that the stops do not prevent the bottom of the brake and clutch lever mounts from hitting the tank in the lowest bar position, and there is about 3mm extra flex on top of that

    Even if money was not an object, I would still hestitate on buying this bike. As an idea I have a huge admiration for how utterly lunatic it is. A street legal dragster bike basically! But it also scares me shitless.

    I bought a new 2021 3R in Nov 21. Wonderful experience. Fantastic bike, Incredible torque, etc etc as you say. I recently swapped it for a 2021 Ducati Diavel 1260s upon mutual agreement. I am not disappointed in the swap, in fact with the Arrow race exhaust the Diavel surpasses the fun factor of the Rocket in many ways. It cannot match the Rocket in some areas eg Planted weight and stability in the wind, mind bending torque of the Rocket which made my stomach turn, classic looks and engineering thoughtfulness. I love both bikes and am glad I experienced it. I love my Diavel, it too is a monster which thrills me every time I ride it. For anyone considering a Rocket. You will not regret it.

    Enjoyed the video. I'm 62yo and 5'7". I bought the GT as soon as it was released and absolutely love it. I almost always park it or turn it to avoid the reverse incline dilemma. I tried pushing forward with the front brake on and springing back to assist the movement, like I do with my heavier Harley but the hillstop prevents this cheat code. So, park or turn where it's favourable.

    Basically it´s a bike everyone (me included - will do end of August) want to ride at least once. But the price, the low fuel economy, some gremlins reported in T forums plus maintenance and tyre cost keep even those who could afford it away from it. @ Freddie - well done review - had to giggle when I saw you trying to reverse the bike - I struggle the same with my TEX with panniers fully loaded - even the slightest gradient makes it impossible.
