- The Ducati Diavel V4 and the Triumph Rocket 3 are both phenomenal motorcycles but we need to know which one is best. The only way to do that is to take them both out for a head to head comparison test! Sit back and enjoy :-)

It’s the Triumph for me. I prefer the looks, the low down torque, the comfy seat and the shaft drive. So much so, I’ve just bought one and I’m loving it.
Yeah it’s a great bike! Enjoy it! I have a 2020 myself 😊
Damn, what a great purchase man, congratz!
Good choice. If I was 15 years younger, I'd have one.
Ducati all day long for me, I love both but I only get one choice.
Same I’d go for the Rocket 3, looks and that 2.5ltr great lump
My R3 GT is so beautiful to ride. Powerful, stable, smooth and feels like a powerful Bentley! At 79 years old and after having had 30 big motorcycles (Including a Boss Hoss), this R3 is about at the top of my list. It has all of it! Comfort, power, shaft drive, amazing electronics and great looks!...the best combination of features ever in one bike.
I love my 2019 X Diavel S but I find myself riding the R3 90% of the time.
Thanks for your review!
What about heat on low speed?
living in USA never tought much of Triumph, but totally fell in love with Rocket3. love at first sight❤❤❤
Triumph has been around for years, sort of of on the lines of a Indian brand bike only certain people buy these bikes , but the triumph rocket r black sold me totally awesome, gorgeous, very sexy all business, for a cruiser sport bike makes a statement 😊
25K.😮 It doesn't seem like so many years ago that bikes like this were half this price. Feels to me like some cartel pricing going on these days amongst manufacturers!
Yes prices do seem high, actually MCN did an inflation calculator and compared to inflation they have actually dropped in price! Problem is that's assuming your wages have also increased inline with inflation 😫
@@LambChopRides Thanks for replying. I think this MCN pricing comparison with then and now only exposes how inflation is another tax on society. The rich tie their money up in expensive art pieces / property etc which is the only way to avoid inflation eroding personal wealth.
Going a bit conspiratorial which I appreciate isn't what this channel is about 🛵. It just seems too much of a coincidence how different manufacturers have almost identical price tags on their product range hence my price fixing theory
Too right bro!
Prices have gone mad but that’s to do with PCP finance. Why sell you a bike once, when they can keep you hooked on the line and coming back every 3 years? As a business model its better for them to have us on a slow monthly £ drip, rather than take a lump sump just once. Price the bikes out of reach but then offer low monthly payments, just don’t look at the small print % interest rates and balloon payment! Great dream bikes tho and loving the content Chops.
@@LambChopRides yes, good point, it hinges around your salary keeping up with inflation.
Thank you so much for the video, I own a black Diavel V4 thrill ride and it really is a lash of energy every time I lean it into a corner. When you open the throttle you feel the indomitable Ducati soul. That's the difference between riding a motorcycle and being on a saddle.
Cracking video gentlemen, I really appreciate it. I just purchased a pre-owned ‘20 Rocket 3r with ~1k miles on the clock. I’m now pushing 4k miles and everywhere I ride the bike I get spectators. It’s such a fun ride. Thanks again for the great video.
i find it perplexing how many motos have only 1,000. miles i bought 2 like that!
You're right (obviously), the Rocket does have presence and attracts attention. Last year I did 22,000 miles on mine venturing as far south as the Canaries and as far north as the North Cape. It's down to the bike that I now have so many contacts across Europe!
The rocket seems amazing for a cruiser, and the GT version would be awesome to try a longer trip on. I am really jealous would love to go on a long trip with a bike like that 😊
wow
i did 10000miles 🎉
The Rocket is more Bentley Continental GT than RR 😊
Whilst the Ducati is clearly quicker, I prefer the philosophy of the Rocket and the type of riding it would draw me toward. Performance bike riding on public roads is dying out. Plus, when I consider the rides that I complete thinking 'I feel good', it's that kind of ride. I used to ride 1000cc sports bikes like the S1000RR, which normally ending with a bit of a sweat on, checking all limbs still in place, followed by a couple of weeks in anticipation of the postman delivering something nasty..
That last half sentence exemplifies the sentiments of almost any driver/rider who's enjoyed a "spirited" day at the wheel/handlebars. You have to be soooo wary of *ALL* potential "photo opportunities" these days. Just TWO high speed errors could easily cost you your licence.
Haha I know that feeling well! 😅
Yeah because with a diavel v4 you ride the speed limit, load a bs. Buy what you like.
The rocket looks more like a farming tractor, literally is like a huge fat bonneville frame and tank with an old tractor engine. It draws attention for sure, like a circus freak!
I was sat in my my van in Henfield last week having lunch and a rocket 3 r went past very slowly, my van vivrated along with the ground. I now know what I want next
I absolutely love this segment of bikes. I am turning 50 in January God willing and bikes like these just make sense to me at this point. I should be dipping my toe into the muscle cruiser world today when I pick up my new Harley Sportster S if the service shop is finished making the switch to mid controls. I can’t wait to get it out there and I kind of think the Rocket 3 may be the ultimate destination I am headed towards. Good stuff as always. Thanks for sharing another great video. 👍🏾
At my age (55) the Ducati is the perfect choice for me, fast, agile, not to heavy and looks amazing and with the akra exhaust, sounds amazing. The rocket is a lovely bike but why would you when you could have a diavel V4.
fit and finish is better on the Triumph, the Ducati has so much plastic covers you can barely see the engine.
Shaft drive…mic drop.
@@B41L3Y The disadvantages of shaft-drive are that it is a lot heavier than a chain and absorbs more of the engine's power before it reaches the rear wheel compared to a chain system
The Diavel is closer related to the Speed Triple 1200 RS. The Rocket 3 is in a different class all together.
@@RadDadisRad what are you on? the speed 1200 RS is a naked just like the v4 streetfoghter.
I think the video nails it at 29.00, they are actually different category bikes. To me, Triumph is special and true to it's purpose and would be my preference. I saw a red one at the track once, guy couldn't keep up with race bikes of course but I rode behind him lap after lap and looked at it. I think i fell in love there :)
Brilliant vid guys. Really enjoyed it. I think you've hit the nail on the head. Triumph & Ducati have approached things in a very different way. Each has its own unique USP & they're not really the same type of bike but you'd be really happy with either.
yeah not the same kind of bike at all, like comparing oranges with cucumbers.
You two make a great team in conveying motorbike nuances.
funny is that R3 is limited to 60% of it's engine power with throttle mapping, ecu it to 100% then it can match acceleration to V4 Diavel but it may be unnecessary because these bikes are a bit in different categories. Excellent bikes both of them. And thanks for the good review! 💪🏼
Yeah I remapped mine and put a exhaust on my rocket 3 ah boy its a totally different bike.. and with the quick shifter.
@@LoCk3H Too bad that the aftermarket exhausts for the R3 all look like crap compared to the OEM pipes. FJB 🖕🇨🇳
Brilliant video, absolutely seamless between the comms and the switching of camera to the other rider throughout. Really high quality stuff. Deserve more subscribers!
Thanks buddy 👍
Spot on again Chopsie. I’ve got the R3 TFC and recently tried the new Diavel V4. Both are brilliant at what they’re intended to do and what’s better depends on what you’re looking for. The R3 has the low down instant torque and pick up, shaft drive, comfy rear seat and optional cissy bar a longer wheelbase and built for sweeping A roads. The Diavel was more of a monster super naked crossover, it is far better at b roads I rode on but not as comfy and didn’t have the low end grunt, mid range on it blows the R3 away on back roads when thrashing it. I also feel the Diavel was built down to a price with flimsy panels, exposed cables etc. Definitely test both to see which one is for you, they’re both brilliant. 👍🏻
If you are looking at a Rocket 3 I would recommend the quick shifter, a Puig screen for 70mph plus a Nitron rear shock if you’re keeping it as it makes the ride magic.
Thanks Fin, great info 👍
@@LambChopRides you’re welcome to try it next time in Edinburgh. It’s got the Zard exhaust so sounds like it should do. Not the £5k Ducati are charging for the Akro 😉
Better still, get the gen 2 Vmax 1700.. 😜
This comment is a year late, so I hope you are reading this @funkyfin3023 .....but yes, I went and looked at the new 2024 ducati diavel v4 and the panels felt almost 'flimsy loose' ! What shocked me was that the back tip of the rear seat had this flimsy up and down movement that I didn't like at all ! The rocket 3R didn't have any of that !! Everything was stiff, non-flimsy and high quality finish !
@@markettradinggenius glad you found that to be the case.
Roll on test, Try both of you same time, third beep of the horn. Been using this way way before comms. Superb viewing on my 65-inch 4K OLED with the high production values that we often take for granted. Well done Lucio CecchInello Racing. 🤔😉
Wonderful video , you and Greg managed to fully describe the bikes because you notice different things. Keep up the fine work Chopsy 👍👍 One thing I've noticed, is that the Ducati GT v4 motor seems to sound better than the Desmo .....
FFS guys… I’ve changed my mind which bike I’d prefer every 5 minutes watching you vid! 😂
So different, it's almost like trying to compare a high end Harley bagger with a Goldwing. I doubt there's much cross shopping here. Most owners of each probably had their minds made up at first glance. Great reviews.
Nice video. I'm 74, and bought the 221. I adore this bike. Starting out in first feels slightly hesitant, but once rolling sit back and relax, smooth. I sit in the garage in the morning with coffee and admire the GT. Ride well gentlemen.
The prices of these two will not scare serious buyers away I would buy the Ducati in a heartbeat , thanks Greg and Chops , BSA called and wants their chrome back !
Epick stuff Boys !! Well done ! Now there is only one way to check the torque on a bike. 6th gear roll-on from 40mph till 70+mph
I was almost about to correct you by saying it should be a 60-100kmh roll-on then I realised you quoted miles per hour, which is pretty much the same :) !!
Had a Rocket 3 and went to a Diavel V4… I had it for about a month before I sold it. No comparison to the comfort and grunt on the Rocket. Ended up buying another Rocket. For me it’s the best bike out there. That low end grunt makes so much more sense on the street. Really regretted selling the rocket at the time but thankfully it all worked out with minimal loss $ wise.
Well, now I know what bike to buy ...haha....
Man I miss my 2015 Diavel Carbon....Think with the new 60k valve adjustment intervall, I'll renew my vows with the Diavel in a near future. Keep up the good work, you're by far my favorite TH-camr for motorcycle content.
Cheers from Quebec, Canada
Ducati every time thanks!
oooohhh if I had the money for BOTH. That sound from the Ducati 😍
As they say in some parts of the World, same same but different. The Aston Martin/Ferrari comparison of the bike World.
Normally I'd chose Ferrari, but that triple is amazing
As always, thanks so much for your efforts. I’ve been wondering about the Rocket/Diavel comparison and I’m thinking it isn’t quite apples to apples. The Diavel is a freaking Ducati! I mean, a Ducati is going to be a Ducati, right? I would think a far more objective comparison would be to Harleys and Indians. In that respect, the Rocket would surely shine.
did a testride with the V4 and loved it, it was like it was fit just for me when i got on it, when we came back my mate and i agreed we want one but it's just a bit to expensive now for us. Job well done for Ducati
You didn't want to say the Ducati feels like a teenager and the Triumph feels like a retired mans bike
I'm 51 and I own the Ducati X Diavel S...I'm not retired yet!
Sonething really regal about that triumph. Love that chrome tank. Like a norton.
I’ve owned both and agreed with all you said. I’ve actually got a v2 xdiavel nera now. One of 3 in Ireland. I like the Ducati twins and I’ve a bad knee so it’s a great all round bike for me. 🤘🏻 good review guys. You two are great together. We call the rocket the buzz lightyear bike
You have owned both as in the new Rocket 3 2020-present? And the brand new Diavel v4? Because both are so much better than their predecessors.
You guys are having so much fun I’m sitting here smiling watching
I would be interesting to see a top gear pull comparison
Love the looks on both bikes ,
Overall looks and the sound, the Triumph wins for me , another great review, and the banta between the both of you is brilliant ,
Thanks Martin 👍
I would have thought the Rocket smashed the Duc in rolling comparisons, instead it's the opposite! Surprise. Anyway, as an italian I would go for the Triumph every time. 😆 The X Diavel, though...
Thanks for the vid!
Oh that was a great comparison guys. Thank you🤗
Ps. Just blast your horn 3 times to race of👍🏽
New to motorcycles but the Triumph is beautiful
Always enjoy your videos Tom. Re measuring temperature while out I started using a couple of sensors from Sensorpush a while ago (they provided a couple to use on a winter trip to Mongolia, temps down to just under -5°C. They are really good, connect to a phone app and store temps internally for a few months as well. Also, battery life is ridiculously good. Recommended. Geoff
Ducati V4 is pinnacle of biking technology. I also love look of Ducati V4.
Lovely review as usual I think chops leaning towards the diavel more same here as well , however m still convinced that vmax gen2 still the best performance cruiser build tell date however its discontinued.
Would love to do review on one of these I believe it's not on the channel vedio archives.
Thanks mate !
Just a little tip Chopsy, don't put E10 in these bikes. Especially from that Morrisons in Horndean. It's renowned for having bad quality petrol.
The extra ethanol content makes it pretty bad for steel tanks, as it's considerably more corrosive than E5.
Shell V power every time and you can't go wrong 👍
Good review. I think the Rocket captures the cruiser ethos better. I've had more Ducatis than most people likely have had motorcycles. I bought the Rocket 3 R rather than the V4 Diavel. Yes, the Diavel is quicker, and better handling. Overall I found the Rocket more fun to ride. The bottomless torque is just addictive. A simple flash of the ECU for the cost of a BT OBD2 adaptor and you unlock about another 25PS at the rear wheel. That definitely closes the acceleration gap.
Thankfully Ducati has gotten better with service intervals but I've spent more on Ducati maintenance over the year than what a V4 Diavel costs new. The running costs are pretty dear on them. Insurance is another factor. I have a lot of bikes and that adds up pretty quickly. By comparison, my Rocket 3 is one of the cheapest bikes I own to insure. My last Diavel (xDiavel 1260S) costs almost 5 times what my Rocket does to insure.
The riding position is more comfortable for me and the saddle on the rocket is much better. I can spend hours on it and still be comfy. After a 30 minute test ride on the V4 Diavel my butt was already hurting. All in all the Ducati wants you to push it all the time to really enjoy it. On the Rocket it can hustle pretty well but is very content at just "cruising".
Downsides to the Rocket are significant heat off the cat. It can drink fuel like a V4 Ducati or Aprilia. Lack of stock quickshifter. I do have to make a note that the accessory quickshifter is one of the best, and smoothest, I've ever used on a bike and shame it isn't standard. Rocket isn't as nimble as the Duc but surprisingly good.
All in all both are fun but the Rocket is a lot more unique. Definitely a conversation starter everywhere I go. My Ducs are typically ignored as they are quite common. I still have a Multistrada and a Streetfighter. Almost all the Ducati's I've owned are best appreciated when riding fast. The Rocket is fun most any time for me. I never tire of having that hand of God pushing my back at any rpm when I twist the throttle. You could leave the bike in 3rd gear if you wanted and ride anywhere.
Don't you think that saying that the Ducati is quicker and better handling, but the Triumph is more fun to ride is something contradictory? Yes the Triumph looks more like a cruiser bike and the Ducati is more like a naked sport bike, but for me the most important part of a bike is the performance and handling in the road
@@anonymous_PR They are not contradictory. Think of a different way. How often am I pushing the bike to its limits in a turn or at peak acceleration? Anything at less than about 9/10ths pace and I enjoy the Rocket. The Rocket has immense torque that pushes the bike forward at a healthy rate regardless of RPM. The Duc has to be way up in the RPM range to really pull the Rocket.
The Rocket is making good power no matter what RPM. I don't care if it is a little bit eclipsed right up at redline. Do the flash (basically free with Tuneec if you have a BT adaptor) and it will easily run with the Diavel. Another thing to keep in mind, is if you are a big person, or riding double, that extra weight has less of an effect on the Rocket's acceleration. As for handling, a slightly taller rear tire really sharpens up the handling on it as well.
I am a big fan of the shaft drive and minimal maintenance it requires. Nobody talks much about it in road tests by the Triumph has better lights if you ride at night a lot. They are both fun bikes, but for 95% of my riding, I'll still take my Rocket. I keep a multistrada around for whenever I feel like going on a longer trip.
Buy what makes sense for you. If I lived in the mountains or spent most of my time there, I'd probably take the Diavel. Most everywhere else, I'll take the Rocket. One last plus for me is the insurance costs. I spend $180/yr for full coverage and high limits of liability, 500 deductible. My Diavel cost me about about $800 with the same coverage.
Man, your comments are so salient and informative! Like someone else said, during the video I was changing my mind constantly on which bike I wanted, but I am now sure I want the Rocket!
@@mikebetts9677 Glad to help. For me fastest isn't always better, unless I am racing. I have to say of the 12 bikes I currently have (yes, I am an addict), the Rocket is the one I ride the most with my Janus Halcyon in 2nd place. In the last 5 months I've added a tune and went with a different muffler. The muffler saved about 25 pounds and reduced the heat under my crotch in the summer time.
The tune and muffler added about 30 whp to it. It pulls very nicely to over 7k now and still has that immense low end torque but with an even stronger top end pull. Saving almost 30 pounds was a nice benefit and makes the bike even better handling as it feels more nimble. If I could only keep one of all my bikes, it would be the rocket. Superb all around bike. Comfy to take my wife on too.
Triumph for me. Then I'm a Tiger 900 GT rider. But the triumph looks epic.
Hmm, a bit of a Cop-out at the end, gents lol. For me, the Diavel. I think the Rocket captures the 'look' of motorcycling spirit, but the Diavel nails the 'spirit' itself. It is more complete as a motorcycle when it comes to what I consider the most important factor: riding. Personally, I could care less of people admiring me tootling through a town. It is the magical thrill of a headlong rush along twisty roads on a nice summer day, knowing my machine can safely deliver and perform and get me home, again, in comfort.
I feel like old Greg is a perfect addition to the channel and I really enjoy these comparison videos you have started. I feel like this particular comparison is a little strange though since the V4 Diavel is not really a cruiser. "It does not feel like a heavy cruiser" No because it is not a heavy cruiser, it is a naked bike with a wide back tire that is it! So everything like drag races and stuff with a Sportbike like the Diavel compared to a cruiser like the Rocket 3 is pointless. Of course you guys are going to love the Ducati as you guys prefer sportbikes to cruisers :D
Since Greg liked the Ducati so much, you should instead compare it to the Yamaha MT-10 he liked and see what he thinks about it then, would be much more interesting ;P
The X Diavel would have been a better fit in this comparison since it is as close to a cruiser you can get with Ducati.
And what is it with Chopsy and "getting a cup of something warm" ? Dont you guys have summer in the UK ? You should say grab something cold it is fu*kn 25 degrees outside, It is beer or shandy season Chopsy!
🤣
PS. Can you sometime in the future please change that intro song you have had for ages Chopsy ? It sounds like the soundtrack to a german hardcore p0rnomovie 😅
Did our own Rocket 3R v Diavel V4 challenge today & test ride. From a rolling start (each bike in 3rd & travelling @ 60kms) both bikes were level for the first 1.5 secs before the Diavel took off and didn’t look back. After jumping off my Rocket, the first thing I noticed on the Diavel was how light the bike is as well as how you seem to sit in it rather than on it. Other observations include how easy it tips into the corners as well as how it seems to get its second wind in the higher revs. It was also surprisingly vibey compared to the Rocket. Wasn’t expecting that. Both quick shifters are excellent with the Diavel’s being a bit smoother in the change. Couldn’t agree more that the Rocket is more like a high performing Bentley in terms of its performance/appearance/finish & plushness of its ride while the Diavel is closer to an Italian sports car that just wants to go….and go and go!!! Can’t go wrong with either.
Great to hear you came to the same conclusions as we did 👍
Only thing I’d add is the lack of wind protection on the Diavel. The low Triumph tour screen makes an appreciable difference. Once on the Diavel, the wind resistance was noticeable. No doubt a small screen will come out for the Diavel that doesn’t take away from its looks. Worth considering if you’re forced to do highway kms.
The profile of the seat & tank combined with the slightly elevated bars gave me the impression that I was sitting lower in the bike. The Rocket’s seat and lower bars pushes your upper body slightly forward leaving you perched on bike. Strangely the Rocket has more wind protection with the small touring screen making a difference.
When I’m kicking 70yo and too lazy to ride I’ll be choosing between one of these two. Thanks for the vid!
Another great review Chopsy and Greg .👍 Not sure which one i would choose between the two either !!!? Both look great but being a triumph fan ! The rocket for me .👍👍😀 pity the roads where very damp there built for the sun those two . But chopsy i would keep the H2 over both .😁
Great review of a couple of cool bikes.
You must have some amazing time management skills if your holding down a full time job whilst producing quality content
I am literally making my own decision about these two bikes as I'm there now in life. I think the Triumph just takes it for me, the Rolls Royce analogy is spot on, I love the big, imposing presence of it.
Was looking forward to this and I wasn’t disappointed.
Has the gen 3 busa got as much grunt ?
Getting either, would render you wanting the other. Only solution is to get both.
So what to do with the plate? Doesn't look like many options...strap it to your back? Behind the backrest?
我买了ROCKET3,我也尝试过杜卡迪,但火箭3更适合我,我喜欢她独特的设计,还有那澎湃的低扭动力,相对舒适的坐姿,体验非常棒!
This was the best video ever for those torn between cruising and sport riding. I want to love the Rocket, but I wish it had a sport riding position and some more clearance. Damn, the Rocket is beautiful!
Fantastic video guys, thanks for posting. Not really any surprises in the end - both amazing machines, but it does ultimately boil down to personal preference and what you want the bike for.
Great review.. .but I'd now be interested how you compare the Diavel to the supernakeds you compared recently!
yeah I was alsos thinking about that, It would have fitted perfectly in that video :)
Given the choice for nearly £25k I’d have a 2nd hand GoldWing touring, but out of the two tested, it would be the Rocket it looks so much more of a bruiser cruiser 😉
Both lovely bikes I’m at an age where I pref , triumph over Ducati , Ducatis like an m3 beemer ,triumph is like a Bentley continental..
Cracking video mate! Just started my motovlogging journey so very much learning the ropes, can't get enough of yours and Usernamekates content! 👌Hope to one day get to the point where I can review and ride some of these beasts!
Keep at it buddy and thanks 😁👍
@@LambChopRides Will do pal thanks and no problem at all!
Very good vid. I owned a Vmax in 85. Also the big Boss Hoss 502cid. It wasn't really that fast off the line and over 1400 US pounds. Now I have a 2024 Triumph Rocket 3 GT. For me, the Triumph is the best cruiser to date. The Hayabusa wasn't mentioned. I ride the Hayabusa but it is my neighbor's bike. Not comfortable. But fast.
I was waiting for this comparison. I was down to theses two bikes for me and the DV4 was the bike for me. The power, the handling, the technology and 100lbs lighter. All I could ask for. Now all I need is an affordable exhaust.
Yup absolutely! Keep an eye on Vandemon exhausts 👍
Rocket for me.. a-mazingly comfortable seat, shaft drive. Add a shifter/blipper, the available sequential indicators & delete the pillion seat.. just perfect
Excellent comparison, gents. I'm with you, I think the Triumph has the Ducati beat in the looks department, but I'm not ready to let go of my inner hooligan quite yet, and I can't afford to buy both, so I think it would have to be the Ducati.
The inner hooligan never dies. Save your pounds for a new catagory to come out of Grand Rapids Michigan USA.
I like the styling of the triumph mirrors the way it looks . The ducati looks more street sport bike than cruiser , bimbo brakes seem to be the braking standard on many high end vehicles, not sure where this country that these bikes being critique of it's likes & dislikes i feel you two didn't get the full benefits of the true potential due the roads you are riding im sure speed limits restricted the ride, but if you was able to ride on open road with some curves would tell a better story, i wish the new Suzuki Hayabusa was in this test as that bike is a sport touring bike but a little lighter , i own a 2017 Hayabusa i didn't know there was a new Hayabusa out as i have never heard of the rocket r by triumph if i was buying a cruiser bike for me I choose the triumph rocket r black, this style of bike reminds me of years ago yamaha vmax a sport cruiser , again i have never been a fan of ducati bikes not because they are bad bikes just wasn't my style of bike , all my past bikes been Suzuki street bikes but by accident i discovered triumph rocket r cruiser im sold that me my choice, it looks all business 😀 my opinion only
Very entertaining and you cut between yourself and Gregory chatting in shot really well!
Thanks Simon 👍
The Rocket any day of the week. Its looks alone could stop a train with a performance to match
It's the Ducati for me - every day of the week!
Amazing bike and beautiful design.
The looks and sound of the rocket give it the edge for me, bet both would sound awesome with some good cans on them, the rocket especially
Interesting comparison, they are different. I am biased as I bought the Rocket and sport mode is something else. I guess they were on Road mode - for a roll-on I'd slip into Sport and hang on. A great cruiser with adrenalin mode.
Just taking the Rocket off the kick stand and standing it up on the show room floor, I thought there Is no way can deal with this weight. if you are stopped and the bike leans a little in one direction or the other. there is no way I could stop it from falling over. of course if I owned it I would get used to the weight and how to deal with it. and hopefully never have it fall over on me. but just a couple of weeks ago my DUCATI Supersport was parked between two bikes. and I needed to back it out of the spot. and for some reason I didn't want to sit on it. so I tried walking it backwards. and my body was in the wrong position and the bike leaned just an inch over and I almost lost it because I had no leverage. so in the same situation that Rocket would've been on the ground. but for me I would love to own that Ducati V4 Diavel. what a beautiful machine. I never thought I would be a Ducati guy, but since getting my 2017 939 Supersport with 2159 km on it just a month and a half ago. I am a total Ducati fan because of how much I love my new bike. but I also love Triumph. but have never owned one. personally I don't really look at the Ducati Diavel and think Cruiser. I think there are better cruiser bikes to compare to the Rocket.
I really like the Triumph and would love to have one as long as it didn’t have to be my only motorcycle. I think it would be a great bike for longer cruises. As long as I had a lighter more nimble bike for around town
Would like to see the rounded rocket lights on a street triple / speed triple. The bikes on test are stunning with Rocket edging it I think on wow factor
I like the triumph but the ducs motor wins all day
The diavel 1260 smoked this rocket, the V4 only does so more convincingly
The Diavel is a “mega” naked. It’s heavier than a hyper naked but the same amount of power of a hyper naked. The Rocket 3 is a genuine power cruiser. Makes almost as much torque as horsepower. 149ci is a huge motor and the fact it can mildly rev is awesome.
Blah blah blah. It gets destroyed by the Duc in every way.
@@mattyoz0 it doesn’t tho. The Ducati has a marginally bigger engine than the Speed Triple 1200 RS with the same amount of power in the same places. It’s not even a similar comparison little boy.
@@RadDadisRad Power to weight and a way better chassis. Little boy.
@@mattyoz0 yeah the Duc just doesn’t have it where it counts. It’s a fatass super naked. The R3R has double the engine capacity with 1 less cylinder. It has more power 1000 rpm above idle than the Ducati does for the first half of its rpm range. The Ducati is a power loser not a power cruiser.
@@RadDadisRad I don't know why you're talking about the Speed Triple and in case you don't know the Diavel's engine is a detuned superbike engine, they've made it with a lot more power than any Triumph has ever made.
The point was the Diavel beats the Rocket in every single measurable performance metric, and that's just a fact. It's faster off the line, faster in a drag race, faster in the corners, brakes better, handles better...it's just plain better. In fact even the old XDiavel with the twin engine still beats the Rocket in every way, and that's a feet forward cruiser too.
Turns out putting a 350lbs engine in a bike might make for some interesting headlines but doesn't actually work out that well for performance or handling.
Why were you shifting the rocket in your roll ons?
3rd to redline is brutal
Cant wait to try out the diavel v4. I own the multi pikes peak with the gt engine. Also have a 21 r3gt (bren tuned with carpenter pipe). Also have a 14 r3r carpenter 240 whp set up. The new rocket is light years from first gen rocket. Fitted with optional quick shift and un restricted it is a differnt bike. Like complete different bike, Full hp to 8k rpms. p.s. triumph is pretty stable even up to 170mph. Also not a brand loyalist becouse i loved my 15 diavel ti and 16 xds.
Hi gents. Great video, best comparisons on TH-cam! Don't know about you chaps but I see myself straddling a big British Shaft! The Italian v4 is gorgeous too,... what a beautiful dilemma to have if 23k is burning a hole in your pocket? C ❤
Triumph looks like such a beast... what a standout, whereas the Ducati looks like an elongated Streetfighter...
Great vid chaps both stunning bikes think the Ducati just pips it for me !!!
What’s crazy is Carpenter Racing has multiple stages of modifications for the Rocket 3. So 200+hp for stage 1 and close to 230hp for the stage 2 and 260 for stage 3.
Another good duel review.Excellent.Thks guys.
Want cruiser with a splash of sport, go Rocket 3. Prefer sport with a hint of cruiser, Diavel V4. Pretty much Turkish coffee vs. latte.
The Rocket for me, specifically the GT.
I realize that my days on my SDR fully loaded at 58 yrs are limited. My choice would be between the Goldwing or the Rocket. That Ducati is mental like the KTM SDR. Great test though gents, keep 'em coming. What about road legal open class motorcrossers
*2 different bikes. 2 different riding styles. 2 different weights. 2 different engines. 2 different riding positions.
Triumph is cruiser and Ducati is a muscle naked bike*
I bought a rocket 3 in 2004 anorange tribal paint scheme , which I still own , at the time rumours in the motorcycle mags ( remember them ) that triumph were making something big. , originally they made it a 1600, but while testing the rides said it was great but needed more power , they increased it to 2300 and the testing at bruntingthorpe the test riders wrote 3 bikes off and during testing , and reported back ,that’s it perfect , when I first got it , every time I parked it their would be a queue of bikers waiting , all asking the same questions , mister is it heavy , does it handle and is it fast , the answer to all those questions is yes , I remember doing 155mph down a hill and it felt like 225 , also I have a Ducati diavel , gen 1 and a 1260 diavel , out of the ducatis the gen 1 was a beast, the jury’s out on the v4 , until I ride one , and I’m not sure about the cylinders running v2 and turning into a v4 at 4000 rpm ,
I tested both and went with the Triumph!
Just put a deposit on a red diavel v4, its gonna be a great summer. Great comparison video of two superb bikes.
In few words: Ducati is SPORT-cruiser, Triumph is sport-CRUISER.
Differences in video looks big, but in reality, it is like comparison between the best formulas F1. But other mainstream cars are a few laps behind.
I prefer cruising, maybe my figure is larger, therefore GT is much more comfortable for it. And the finishing and details of Triumph are several generations ahead of Ducati. During summer I try to do test ride on DV4, I am curious. But surely I will not change it for my R3GT.
Great review. Both bikes excel in own right. I think the Ducati wins it for me as it can be 3 bikes in 1. Would be interested in knowing what greg meant about sorting the rear plate out. Not sure where you could put it that wouldn't detract from looks of the back on on it
Lamb Chop, if you are riding on wet roads with the rocket 3r, would the water splash on your back?
The review I wanted to see. Awesome video lads.
Good vid guys. Think you nailed it Chopsy, these are different category bikes now, the Rocket is cooler and more comfortable, the V4 is sportier and the better handling bike. End of day 100kgs separate these bikes and Triumph would need to stretch the power of the Rocket out to 200hp and 2000 more revs to even up the stakes with the Ducati: something special about a v4 at revs, that 2500 triple feels special all of the time 🤙
Both magnificent beasts obviously. Ultimately overall weight and internal masses expose the Triumph's attempts to overcome the laws of physics compared to the Diavel's brutally efficient mill. I'd love to see somebody convert a car to accept the Triumph's engine! Given their starship cruising abilities, it would be interesting to see a review which covers fairing, pillion and luggage options for these bikes.
Currently own a 1260. Had a speedmaster and a storm. Something for me about triumphs that doesn't gel. I can't describe it, but based on your handling assessments of both bikes and my enjoyment of the 1260, I'd put my money on the V4.
To me they are both masterpieces of engineering and passion by the respective companies.
The Ducati is not a cruiser so really shouldn’t be compared to the Rocket 3 and the Rocket is the gentlemen to the Ducatis brutish thug like behaviour 😂
Keeping up with sport bikes really isn’t what these types of bikes are about, it’s about being more chilled and cool 😎 because you know you have the power but don’t have to prove it.
I don't understand why the Diavel is in the cruiser class, the XDiavel maybe though.
